Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that Japanese folks invented texting. When it took off there and in China, was maybe 2000? It's when the J-Phone was popular. At the time I had a serious Japanese girl fetish going, so I bought one of those. It wasn't cheap and the messages would go to China or Japan quicker than they would from one side of Oahu to the other. I lived in Yokosuka in maybe 04, and my J-phone wasn't cool anymore, and I had to get something else, but I don't remember what it was called. Anybody remember the J-phone. I think it was part of Vodaphone?

Redneck says he didn't notice it in PI. However, they are probably the biggest texters out there. Minutes are way more expensive, nobody talks. I have a Cebuano secretary. She's just texted "I color my hair and it gets dry, what conditioner do you use" to 8 people. I asked her. She's sending it to girls back home. Her PI phone plan gives her free texts, and I think that's how most plans work over there.

I bet the reason Redneckpunk didn't notice in PI, is because Filipinos use small phones. They like them as much for accessories, and hang them around their necks. They also get blinking covers or cases with rhinestones on them and keep them on their purse strings. You don't always know it's a phone.

What I mean text phone culture is not the lack of use but lacking in manners of using it. That's why I am saying Asia has almost none when upper class birds texting away while having dinners, movies, dates. The art of turning the phone off while on a date does not seem to exist there.

Agree. Poor wording on my part. By culture I meant to say manners. EVERY time I was with a bird in Indo, Thailand, Taiwan, (with the exception of Burma where sim prices are through the roof) etc. they seemed to be glued to the phone wherever we went.

In Ireland now. It doesn't reach Southern California levels by any stretch of the imagination, but it is still kind of high.

I was in Buenos Aires in April. I am trying to remember if it was bad or not. The girl I was hanging with didn't have a cell phone most of the time cause she was waiting for some Iphone knock off to come in from China, so my view is skewed.

I don't know where you are getting this data on Spain. It is impossible to go into the subway here in Madrid without seeing 90% of girls on their phones.

I can answer a few of these, based on what I've seen over the last year:

North America, Western Europe/Scandinavia, China: >90%

Bucharest, Lviv, Dominican Republic: around 30%

There's a direct correlation between cell phone service cost, and amount of use. In EE cell phone service (especially data) is expensive, as it is in the countries that are within the Carlos Slim cellphone service monopoly: (DR, Mexico, much of Central America).

1) Downtown ( only area I know.) Rectangle bounded by 3rd st on the West and about 50th St to the east, and A st to the North and V street to the South. California State Capitol is at about 9th and K Sts. Nice park with dozens of labelled plants from all over world there. Little or No panhandlers or other harassment occurs there.

There are pseudo-chic dance clubs for glossy chicks and tons of cafes for hipster chicks scattered throughout the area. I recommend a rental car from Hertz at 16th st intersection L street or bicycle in summer, you can easily patrol the whole area.

2) U Cal Davis ( About 15 Miles to the West, is a separate culture of higher level students, this is a fairly elite university with a medical school which is cheap so the students are smart. Daddy's a doctor or someone has money and got to go to private school. I would speculate if you are under 35 with "A" or "B+" game you could clean up here. A certain number of students are those grinds who clearly are totally in their heads, but there are some other that are 8+ and really horny too. More snobby than the State Worker class downtown or .....

3) Sacramento State College in East Sacramento. A 2nd/3rd tier State College, students less diligent than the Davis students, more likely to be first in their family to go to college whereas the Davis students probably have professional parents.
