If you've seen Steve Harvey on Family Feud, his shtick is when a contestant gives a weird answer, he looks out at the audience as if he's dumbfounded. Granted this was somewhat funny the first few times he did it, but by now it's become obvious why he acts speechless: He simply can't think of anything witty or funny to say in response.

Harvey's blunder in announcing the winner of the pageant is incompetence of a level never before seen in the history of live TV events. All of the information had been correctly and clearly spelled out on the card in his hand — and he still managed to fuck it up. Then in his tweeted apology, he misspelled the names of the countries of the two women involved.

The root of Steve Harvey's problem is that he isn't terribly bright.

Silly pageant or no, Miss Universe ought to have some class - that's largely the point.

I'm sure she's seeing dollar signs, or someone is, but if her PR team is worth anything they'll tell her to back off the idea fast and find other, less demeaning ways to profit off the huge buzz this is creating.

But sadly, as we all have read on this forum, women are willing to engage police or the legal system over the most irrational shit or even pure lies when their feelings are hurt. Or when they just can't handle a situation they just have to blame others.

In his (small) defence. Supposedly his tele-promter showed "Miss Colombia" and he went off that versus actually looking at the printed results in his hand...

Bonehead move, but for air head TV folks it happens all too often these days.

Also in his defense there was a lot going on and they were rushed for time at the end of the program so maybe he just got flustered. Still no excuse for the mistake but I guess I could see how it could happen esp. since it goes from 2nd runner up to 1st runner up to the winner.

I actually find Harvey kind of funny and fairly red pill and old school at least when I have seen him on stage. He said some humourous things during the event (which is otherwise boring as hell outside the swimsuit part).

What do you do in a situation like this?

Ignoring that it's a bunch of air head beauty queens, what if it were biomedical researchers for a cancer research prize and there was a winner and a runner up?

I think the only fair thing to do would be to award both of them first place prize and take the purse money for 2 first places from Steve Harvey's pay for being a fuck-up announcer.

That bone headed move rejuvenized this miss universe contest. Bring him back and the ratings would be even higher for next year. Shitttt, they will probably be higher without him next year anyways.

Miss Colombia needs to chill. Even if he didn't mess up, she would of ended up with 2nd place.

I mean, it's ballsy, and I don't really think it's a gimmick. It's the top tier pageant in the world, Steve Harvey having to look stupid, the pageant has to look stupid, embarrassment for the entrants, I'm guessing they already have decent ratings, potential lawsuit, plus it'd be tough to cover up a planned gimmick forever. There's no way it was planned.

But still...I bet their ratings will be better next year. In this day and age who knows.

He explains that he didn't read the "runner up", just the name, thinking he was announcing the winner. It is a strange way how the pageants announce the winner when it's down to the final two, they do so by saying who came second, not who wins. He announced the "winner" instead, reading from "first runner up"

Credit to him though for trying to explain it to the press.

That means the Miss USA pageant can be enjoyed as a loss leader for MSNBC, NBC, USA Network, Bravo, A&E, Hulu, Activision/Blizzard, and Universal Studios.

And rival media is free to capitalize on it if they want. Oh, is she Muslim? Then off to Fox News and Glen Beck and etc. You think CBS is talking about it because they want to boost NBC's ratings?

I have to agree with you, Kieran. It has become a trend for guys who blog about masculinity to troll on Twitter for attention. I get that it's business, but I can't get on board with it either.

Steve really fucked this up, no excuses, but I'll be damned if my eyes haven't tricked my brain when readings texts and putting things in that weren't there. Same thing probably happened to him. Its a proven fact that sometimes when skimming lines your brain will fill in blanks if you are not reading closely. His fuckup was he was not reading closely, likely just skimmed it and brain filled in the rest. .

Haha you guys are crazy in this thread, but I have to agree that the Philippians will be on fire for you guys in the coming future. On another note, the producers are talking about having Harvey back next year. Like stated before it will more than likely be a ratings boost as most of the free world didn't even know this pageant was taking place.

For all you calling him a fucking moron, dude made one mistake and had the balls to correct it on air. He's worked his way up from the bottom to a net worth over a hundred million while still remaining somewhat red pill. Everyone makes mistakes, but think it's a little outlandish to call the guy names like fucking moron, idiot, nigger (all on IG and twitter), etc. I'm betting if he went to the Philippians right now, he'd be greeted a "warm" welcome.
