Mild/warm weather and dry climate is nowhere near as aggressive on your skin as east coast winter weather. One thing you have to watch out though is that with crystal clear skies from March to October, you get more UVs, and if you've got fair skin (as I do), being outdoors is an issue, especially midday. Sunscreen every time.

Nosebleeds will be more common if you live in a place like Phoenix, that's both super dry and scorching hot, but outside of that corner of the Southwest, you have milder climates.

Utah is a beautiful state for sure and the easy access to world-class skiing (less than an hour away from downtown SLC) would be a huge drawing card for me but man having gone out in Salt Lake it was a weird scene and the drinking & bar laws are whack (only 3.2% beer sometimes, tough liquor licensing rules, 1am closing, etc.). Also I think the Mormon angle is a bigger deal than most people are indicating compared to other parts of the US. But almost anything beats DC, and you could fly to Vegas pretty quick whenever you got tired of the milqutoast social climate

Regarding the 3.2% alcohol, I'd certainly invest in my own home-brew beer setup if I lived in Utah. There are always ways to overcome obstacles for the creative man.
