Before the pill, women still had diaphragms and condoms have been around much longer than just the 50s. Before they were made from sheep skin. Hanky panky has always been an aspect of culture, but was definitely hidden away from society at large as opposed to today.

I'm of the belief that the pill really wasn't the cause but a vehicle that helped spread the degeneracy.

The problem was really the 60s and the decadency of the war spoils enjoyed by the boomers. I read an article somewhere that the counter culture movement was actually started by soviet sympathizers and spies in academia. This was done in an effort to destabilize American culture by rotting it from the inside out.

It's no surprise that Soviets did in fact attempt to eliminate marriage and the patriarchy at one point in their history but it completely exploded in their faces and caused all sorts of problems. Women all moved to the cities leaving peasant men all alone in the farms, bastard children were the norm, basically all of the problems we have today minus the generous social nets we have today. The second you start providing women with utility to do what they want the second they will begin acting like kidadults. Lord of the Flies could have been rewritten with adult women and the outcome would be the same well, they'd probably starve to death on the beach.

Not to go all "SJW" on you, but it really does depend on which "culture" you mean. Human history is very long, and the West ain't everything. And even in some places in the West during what might be considered "repressive" times, like the Middle Ages, young people were getting down and made no secret of it.

Ever seen photos of the well-preserved ruins of Pompeii, where they had dicks carved in the pavement that acted as arrows to point the way to the brothels?

There's a site somewhere that has translations of some of the graffiti found in the bars and brothels of Pompeii and Herculanium. There were some seriously filthy-minded fuckers back then!
