Chipping in regarding the taxi scams at Manila Airport. Both times I landed in Manila I arrived at terminal 3. At arrivals downstairs there are two types of taxis, and neither of them are the regular cheaper white ones.

If you take a taxi here, the cheaper option is to use the yellow metered taxi. It has a higher meter price then the regular metered taxis, but is still cheap by western standards. It is the white taxis outside arrivals which will rip you off. These are not regular white taxis! These guys only use a fixed price that depends on where you are going. All these fixed prices are double or triple price compared to the yellow metered taxis and were listed on a pillar next to the cars if i remember correctly. It is basically a scam that prays on the fact that there are far too few yellow taxis to go around, so the line is very long at all times, and it is very hot and humid outside as you know.

To get a regular white metered taxi, you should not take a taxi at arrivals, but at DEPARTURES (according to the information on forum, I didn't know about this myself when I was there). So you need to go from arrivals to departures rather than directly out from arrivals.

Food is cheap, if you eat the local food. Milk, honey, Toblerone, red wine... you're importing your diet from back home to a completely different culture, of course it's expensive for you.

Roccker, here are some of my favorite Filipino foods:

- Beef kare kare: It's basically a beef and vegetable stew where the beef is slow cooked in a peanut butter sauce. Very savory and delicious.
- Tapas: Don't know exactly what it is, but if I had to guess, beef cooked in a sweet/salty marinade
- Bistek: Similar to above, but less sweet(?)
- Sisig: perfect drinking food. Don't ask what's in it.
- Pork/Chicken adobo: Salty, savory meat. Delicious.
- Caldereta: meat, potatoes and vegetables in a thick red sauce.
- Longanisa and Tocino: filipino sausages.
- Lumpia: Fried meat wrapped in dough. Avoid if your stomach is iffy.

You can also find a ton of interesting exotic fruit at the local grocery store that make for good snacks in between meals.

You should be able to find reasonably priced Filipino cuisine in most malls. Look for the ones where you stand in line to order instead of the sit down variety. I used to go to a local place and get a delicious and hearty tocilog (sausage, eggs, garlic rice) breakfast for what was $2 at the time.

There was another place that served meat and rice wrapped in a banana leaf for almost no money. Delicious and not so unhealthy. I forget the name of the place, unfortunately.

Also, not Filipino cuisine but the Korean food in the Philippines in incredible. Usually a bit on the more expensive side, but really good. Lots of Koreans go to Phil to study English, so the Korean food here is on point.

If you want cheap clothes, the divisoria has a good selection. I've heard pickpocketing is common there when it gets busy, so be aware. Probably better to wait until after Christmas to go. I got 2 decent pairs of shoes, one of which I still use from there for less than $10. It might not be worth your time, most of the clothes are garbage quality. A lot of the stuff sold there is of questionable quality, made by the very cheapest Chinese labor. Most likely the stuff they tried selling in US/Europe but couldn't meet the health standards.

If you're not traveling far, I think trikes are a better option. If you're not bringing anything valuable on you, or you're traveling with a filipina you're reasonably comfortable with, you can use the jeepneys for a cheap alternative. Probably not worth the savings, but an interesting experience to try at least once. Remember to say "buyet po".

Me buying stuff that i am used to, that is like the cheapest option in my country (eg honey, apples, milk) of course is not the best good price option in this country on the other side of the world
I guess i paid in about 100 euros in all in scams and buying pricey stuff and eating out a lot, i will make peace with that.

- Look at mall and find filipino cuisine stand (not sit in) and look for:

If your really stressing about cab rip offs, just get an uber. They are usually a step above a regular cab, can be pretty baller in the phils and uber support will refund you for any bullshit since everything is tracked.

What is really cheap here is the people. Services are cheap. The Philippines is the place to get a haircut, do some dental work, go for a message, or hire a maid.

Things on the other hand aren't that cheap - the ones you're used from Europe are actually more expensive than at home. (No Aldi/Lidl here I'm afraid.)

I am already here 8 days, not totally fresh, girls ask where the other girls are that i already met from online. I tell them i don’t know, it was not a 100% fit.

Philippino food
Cooked some longanisa philippine sausages.. they are in plastic (remove before cooking) and are sweet meat.. not so much my taste, as well as 12 pesos bbq meatsticks (bbq here means very sweet for my taste). Jellybea is ‚phillipine mcdonalds‘, you get cheapest burger for 30pesos and spaghetti (in combination eg with chicken that is very simillar to kfc chicken). Spaghetti also pretty sweet, but this one was ok for me. Found also place where to order garlic java rice (20 pesos) + egg (12 pesos) -> which is probably cheapest meal beside plain rice (14 pesos) and also Lumpia (40 pesos).

G6 asks ‚can i ask you a question xx?‘ and asks if she can borrrow money, i write i never do it.

Tinder is not working. It says it can’t connect to facebook. At home it worked, also with fake gps. I cleared the cache, didn’t help. Ok, now this time it’s working but it does not load pictures. Wlan internet is worse than the globe internet i have – with the globe internet of smartphone i watch youtube videos (not in good quality), but tinder doesn’t work properly (does not load pictures).

I just wanted to make clear that what I meant by a non-sit in restaurant is that the waiter doesn't come to you, you wait in line to order and they serve you, or call you or bring it to you afterwards. I'm not recommending street food, which is another ballgame. YMMV

If you're not feeling well, it couldn't hurt to go to a doctor. I went to a place in Cebu, and without using insurance paid $7 for a consultation and medicine. Less than the copay at most doctors in the US. But you can get sinutabs and amoxicillin at any sari sari store before that. There's also some bone broth (bulalo?) dishes that are good for when you're sick.

If you're getting bored of banging chicks in metro manila, you've got other options. You can catch a bus to Tagaytay and stay for a few days. The weather is much more mild, and they have some resorts with pools that you could take your (so far) favorite chick over a weekend. Lake Taal has some nice views.

What's your general feeling now that you're on the ground there? Do your initial fears seem irrational? Are you glad you got on the plane and went over?

Facebook may tell your location in your posts and private messages if you don't turn off location reporting (I always make sure it's off).

Same thing with photos taken on cell phone - I always make sure geotagging is off.

Not sure about whatsapp/viber, but I would double check.

I suuuck soo much
Today i ‚tried‘ daygame.
Thing is i also suck heavily at home, meaning i don’t even approach. By some strange miracle i still do some random approaches and got some long term fb’s from it somehow.
I had ‚start street approaching 2 weeks before phil‘ on my todo list, because my street approach ‚phases‘ always seem to start with approaching nothing and like after 1-2 weeks there are at least some approaches. But i didn’t do it because i was stressed as fuck.

So i went to mall at 13h and i have not ate before, and for motivation i told myself i will only eat when get some girl to join me. And i just have the lose goal of shopping for some shoes while i do this. I wandered around and did not approach.
Argh.
It’s like masses swarming. I see them, they are already gone by me. I am of course too slow. The small hotties i like are not that many. And they are always in company of mothers, daughters, boyfriends.
Of course these are all the standard excuses.

Talked to superhot store clerk for only like 2 sentences, and then gave her ‚hey, you are cute + my number + ‚say hi ‘. She did not. Well well.

In these hours one other stare thing happend, from a hot teenager(?), but she was there with 2 gf’s and guy which was enough for my non existent balls to not do something. In the supermarket i ogled a cutie and turned head, mother of her was laughing. Another incident i checked out someone and granny behind her was telling her that and all were looking at me, but it was all good fun. I ‚should‘ just talk to groups.
Another time i wanted to talk to a girl that was selling food, but i was not smooth and there was always costumers ‚interrupting‘.

4,5hours later my spine felt like breaking from all the walking around and i gave up. Then i ate a lot of tiny little foodthings – 10 pesos great vanilla icecream, 45 pesos banana chocolate wafel, 55 pesos 1/4th pizza hut pizza. All good stuff. I spend ‚a lot‘ (not that muchactually) on eating out, but i think it’s money for pleasure well spent. At home make myself spaghetti + thuna (30pesos) + tomatoe paste.

Idea: Go for shopping clerks. They are stationary. They are ‚a lot‘. Talk to them a bit, then ‚actually i came here because i thought you were cute..‘

Argh – after these few daygame hours i find myself doing online again already.
Copy and pasted tinder contacts to contact me by phone - because tinder works only sometimes (it's not as easy as just using my wlan, cause my wlan of condo also sucks.. tinder often does not let me log in, and when it does it does not load pictures..).. till i found out there are a lot of ladyboys

First day waking up in middle of the night i felt a bit 'homesick', tiny bit i guess. But i felt soon pretty at home. As said i have no experience travelling. And i still don't have much, i only go to mall , i like comfort.
Between 'best idea of my life!' and 'worst idea of my life' it's somewhere in the middle but a bit more on the positive side. I think there is more to come in the following 3 weeks regarding experiences.
Regarding initial fears.. have to look up what i had.. security is no problem, i had stomach problems, stealing my mobile is hard to imagine, stealing my room even harder, losing passport even harder, sim at airport was no problem but took some time, let myself be scammed by taxi although having 'tried' to do the right thing- fucked this up, problems daygaming is true, criminality: well, i don't leave the mall, i heard of 3 girls they got robbed; bought electric adaptors there.. i guess that was it?

I agree with the posters above that you should go and visit places outside of Manila while you are in the Phil.
However, if that is beyond your time or $ budget, here is a suggested day trip to broaden your experience for < 100php (200php with meal) ..

Set out from where you are, after the "morning rush hour" - Say 10am.
Catch the MRT southwards, get off at Ayala station.
Exit the station down the stairs at the east side of the EDSA.
Just around the corner you will find the BGC bus terminal.
Buy a ticket (12php) and get on the East bus to MarketMarket (mall).
Get off the bus at MarketMarket. You are now at "The Fort".
Have a look around. Walk over to SM Aura, Serendra, Bonifacio High Street.
If you are ok walking further in the heat, and in the mood to "splash out", wander over around 3rd Ave for a browse in the Rolls Royce and Ferrari Maserati dealerships, or the Mind Museum.
If you want a meal, try Gilligans at MarketMarket (outside). A basic meal starts at 99php including soup and drink.
If you are really hungry and want to blow the budget, try Cabalen Buffet restaurant. All you can eat for 300php.
Try to head home before the afternoon "rush hour", or if you have found a few interesting things, or got busy daygaming, don't try heading home till evening. But be aware that the MRT stops running around 10pm.

Alternatively (or as well) ...
From Ayala station, exit to the west directly into SM Ayala mall.
The other end of SM connects to Glorietta malls.
The west end of Glorietta connects to Landmark department store.
The other side of Landmark connects by overhead walkway to Greenbelt malls.
You can walk around this entire thing mostly inside with aircon.
If you get as far as Greenbelt 1, exit onto the streets, walk up to Ayala Ave, centre of the CBD.
You may like to try daygaming office workers in the Ayala Triangle park at lunch time.

BTW, you will also find Gilligans and Cabalen in Glorietta, and some malls nearer to where you stay.

Also, you may like to coordinate your day trip with meeting girls you have pipelined in the area.

Re shitty internet/data connection: As I've said before, having wasted many frustrating hours on this, I found the only practical solution is the 4G LTE setup. It works.
I don't think the 3G and other wireless arrangements in Phil are technically substandard, it is just that user loading is excessive at peak times.

Antipodean is right about the 4G LTE. I don't know what your setup is, but I ended up shelling out $4500 pesos for a 4G LTE Hub. It worked great. If you have a 4G LTE phone, make sure you get a 4G LTE Sim card. By default, they might not sell you one unless you ask for it and you'll be stuck with a lower speed. That's what happened to me with my phone.

As far as Daygame goes, doing it for personal growth is fine and all, but for me, my motivation was I want higher quality girls. You've been on the ground long enough to know the difference I think. So go out and get 'em!!!

Roccker, you actually have balls of steel! I'm pretty sure most of the guys you know are sitting on their beta asses in Central Europe supplicating to their cunty girlfriends. Most people can't even conceive of traveling on their own much less to a place like the Philippines. Not only have you done this, you are also banging non-hookers. By the way, I had very little luck day gaming in the malls in the Phils too. In the states, day game works well for me. Is it possible you are coming off as too cocky and therefore intimidating? I actually think the girls in the Phils are so shy, they get scared when a tall white guy approaches. A friend of mine who lived in Asia for years suggested that the best way to day game there is to ask for help yet demonstrate some inner self esteem while doing so. Perhaps this will make you seem less intimidating. This will also give the girl an opportunity to demonstrate her value to you.
