In a spirit of winning, lets talk about how winners walk, talk and take action.

For example, when things don't seem to go right, and where hope is gone, winners will fight back and try even harder and work like they never have before, its call the courage to succeed. When you head on this trajectory you will find opportunity. The Courage to succeed leads to opportunity. Wheres doors have close in the past, the future opens new doors through action and moving forward.

Hence,

Winners take action

Winners don't talk they walk

Winners weapons of success is action and moving forward

Winners are honest with there short comings

Winners are willing to walk away if they don't get what they want

Winners admit to there weakness and failures

Winners handle setbacks

Winners understand luck is about opportunity not mystic universe

Winners value friendship/relationship

Winners understand networking/relationships

Winners push-back

Winners out maneuver obstacles

Winners have short term memory when it comes to failure

For me winning is banging two Latinas on a balcony, while smoking a cigar, drinking some wild turkey, and listening to AC/DC.

It's like the winning a gold in the Olympics if ecstasy, cherry suckers, and some female vocal trance music is involved.

As far as the rest, I've never been motivated by stuff that sounds like it was meant to increase my productivity at work.

It's a quote from TV, but I think one thing that distinguishes how winners behave more than anything else:

"[That man] wins because he always knows he's going to win, and so he's always looking for the way that he'll make that happen".

Always assume success until proven wrong.

I'd respectfully disagree: the 'winners', or successful people if you will, that I've seen are pretty genial and are usually perfectly willing to share the "secrets" of their success with those who ask.

Most of the time the 'secret' is basically: preparation, perseverance, a genetic advantage, and a good dose of luck. Most successful people are very humble about how it is a sheer roll of the dice that they got published, or got the right trade, or got selected, when there were dozens of similarly-talented people around them who did not make it. The issue is that most people don't like hearing that. They like the shortcut, the easy way, the idea that there's a magic recipe for riches and success. On top of that, a good portion of people would prefer to sit and gnaw on their envy and jealousy than ask the person how they got to where they are in life.

The best way I can describe the mindset of a winner vs. a loser is through my own coming of age story.

As I've mentioned in other posts, I've played goalie my whole life in ice hockey. I was always towards the top of the competition athletically. I had good technique and hand-eye coordination.

But when I was in middle school and early high school, I rarely won big games. I rarely made game winning saves. After my goalie coach drew it out of me, I realized I had a loser's mindset. When the opposing team was coming down on a 2-on-1, my first thought was, "Oh shit, don't mess this up. Everyone is counting on you and will think you suck if you miss this play. He's probably going to put it right over your glove." Guess what? That was frequently what happened.

After maturing a little and getting some confidence, my first thought during one of those previously dreaded 2-on-1's was, "This kid looks like a little bitch. He can't score on me. I'm going to rob him and the crowd will go wild. If he passes, even better. I'll make a bigger save." I began to thrive on those plays because I knew for a fact I was going to stop them. Once I came to that realization, I began to steal games and make big saves. In juniors and college, there were many games where both my coach and the opposing coach would tell me I was the only reason my team won. We would get out-hit, out-shot, and out-played. But the scoreboard usually ended in our favor. I built my ego around being the game changer in the same way an elite quarterback can make an 80 yard drive under the two minute warning with no time outs and steal the game.

I don't say this to brag or make myself sound important on the internet. I'm using this analogy to show how much your mindset effects reality (think Napoleon Hill). My dad and I recently had a conversation about my hockey career and agreed if I had the 24 year old mind I currently have when I was 17, I would've had a good chance of making it to a reputable D1 program. I pride myself on never peaking. I'll be a better goalie next year than I am today. I'm not going to peak until my hips give out, I hit middle age, or both.

I've used this mindset in every other facet of my life with great success as well. Make eye contact with a cute girl across the bar, "I'm a stud. She wants my dick. I'm going to go say hi." Walking into a job interview, "They are going to love me, I'm uniquely qualified for this position". And so on. A winner's mindset is all about having an internal locus of control. External factors aren't going to keep you from reaching your goals. You are personally going to make it happen.

I forgot which NHL goalie first spoke of that concept off the top of my head (internal vs. external locus of control). But I remember he also kept a notebook full of people who told him he'd never make it. I remember the conversation he wrote about one of his elementary school teachers. He said he wanted to play in the NHL and she told him to pick something more realistic like a fireman. When he got drafted, he called everyone is his notebook. He told the teacher, "Guess what? I told you I'd play in the NHL". (If anyone has any links to which goalie it was, I'd love to reread it as an adult)

I agree. I guess I was thinking of it more from a "bragging" perspective.
