just found this forum randomly in Google and I wanted to give my Opinion.
I am a Brazilian in Girl, Lived all my life in Rio de janeiro and im 22 years old,i hang out in many places with tourists and have a lot of friends in the "gringo dating scene" lol,including me
well,My Honest opinion and what i see from my girl friends, usually they dont really like back guys,especially americans, i dont either but the reason is their behavior.
I dont want to make a generalization but usually when a girl here walk by,is like that:
white american guy: looks to the girl and smiles, girl:
black American men: "yooo babeee youre so hoot..such a niicee boooty yooo" girl:
so,not much difference between the behavior of Brazilian men and some black men who treat women like if they were a piece of meat

it happened hundread times with me, at the beach specially,so to be honest when i see a group of black men who look like tourists ( i can say by the clothes/body language) i already walk in another direction to avoid them,because i know that this kind of thing will happen, so for these kind of men, all foreign black men end up getting a bad picture for women

and i also have to say that also there is this economical/social status thing that people judge by the color here in Brazil, but im sure that the biggest problem is the behavior, black men are destroying their image here, always when i walk around the beach and see places like "meia pataca" and "balcony" theyre full of black foreign men ( of course they have white too) but i see so much more black. So after watching this behavior my whole life,unfortunately my mind tells me that:
- they come here for prostitutes
- they are rude with the girls
- they are desperate
I know that sometimes this is not true, but the problem is that after you see a pattern happening for a lot of time,is inevitable to dont create a generalization, so thats why me and all my girl friends always avoid and never have been with a black foreign guy

I was wondering what a 22-yr-old Brasileira is doing here. I don't doubt anything she wrote. Some Afr-Am bruhs spoil it for the many...but I personally haven't had any problems with Brasileiras. But, I roll thru more Brasilian cities than Rio.

I travel to Brasil (Rio & Sampa) 3-4 times per month for 2-3 days at a time. From my observations you pretty much want to avoid the Stereotypical Black American/Overly Hip-Hop Vibe especially in Rio (since that's where most of those types go) like what the girl was describing If you want to get at Middle Class to High End Brasilian Girls especially in Rio...The Sex Tourists and young cats have ruined that but you really don't have to worry about those types going to the same clubs because those dudes don't leave the Copa scene at all...You will never see them at Praia, Melt, Zero Zero or Nuth in Zona Sul or in Lapa. The good thing about those clubs is that their are some nice chicks that speak english there but the music kind of sucks and they don't play any Samba.

When I travel to Rio I prefer to get with more mixed chicks/light skinned black women...They have some serious stunners there but the problem is that you will not find them in abundance in Zona Sul or Barra, Ipanema, Gavea, Leblon etc and If you do they more than likely are trying to get with white Brazilians or Tourist.

For the fine mixed/light skinned black women you have to hit the Samba Schools like Manguiera, Salguiero and others near Centro and Zona Norte and cool Samba/Pagode clubs like Casa Rosa and spots in Lapa...One problem though...Most of these girls don't speak a LICK OF ENGLISH! And that's the bottom line really...Most people of African Descent in Rio do not have the education levels of their "White" or lighter skinned counterparts therefore it's going to affect your gaming IF you don't know any Portuguese and limit you to the higher end scene with more pretentious babes. I swear when I was hanging out at Manguiera Samba school I was kicking myself for not knowing the language they had some seriously beautiful women in there with long hair, exotic eyes and perfect honey dipped bodies.

Also If you don't speak passable Portuguese It will be a waste of time really trying to get at any chicks, you won't be able to game at all for the most part like you would in our home language, I sure miss some of the little nuances and words I can use in English...I have seen some pure dime pieces out here but It's very frustrating not being able to run G like I can in any english speaking country. Good looks and charm will get you in the door but without portuguese you will be limiting yourself SEVERELY. I have lucked up quite a bit using charm and good looks and a few drinks and IF the girl is feeling you then you can make it happen.

Also with regards to social status and race and color in Brazil...Most of the domestics, street cleaners, security jobs and other low end jobs in Rio are occupied by Black and people of darker color...It's amazing sometimes just walking down the street and I'm clearly the most well dressed brother that they see so I definitely get some double takes. You just have to make sure to stand out and come GQ and you will be fine out there. I was hanging out at Devassa Ipanema on the solo tip the other night in a Suit and I approached single girls with no issues just posting up sipping on brews and they were VERY interested in practicing their English and invited me to some clubs later on. Also a funny thing is that when I'm in the clubs some think I'm Brazilian and when I start talking they really can't believe I'm from the USA. One chick had the nerve to say I was lying about being from the US because my English was too good since she assumed I was Brazilian. I had to show her my California ID for her to believe me...lol.

im a light morena.. european/african racial background, no the guys didnt speak portuguese, all saying the rude things in english,and sometimes the classic "linda" too ( not very often though)

Getting to the passable level will provide more opportunities fore sure. It is much easier to talk to someone 1 on 1 compared to jumping into a group conversation. Also if she is feeling your vibe and look she will most likely be more patient with you and cut you some slack. "Repita, por favor" and "fale devagar" were phrases I used quite frequently lol.

You are right TonySnow25...I would say in Sao Paulo and the top places there you have more people who have a better grasp of the English language are willing to work with you on that tip If your Porto isn't on point moreso than Rio and it's top clubs. In Sao Paulo the ladies are really chill and are surprised you are even in their city whereas Rio gringos are all over the place in Lapa and Zona Sul.

While I would agree that knowing Portuguese would be VERY beneficial in Brazil there are just far too many women to even think that many will have the same generalizations. Often times when I hear someone make a broad generalization, they base their ASSUMPTIONS on a sample size of about THREE (probably less). Of course, the math major in me laughs at this because no good hypothesis can be formulated from a sample size so small.

It's unfortunate that some of these brothas going abroad don't know how the fuck to act. Tenspeaks on youtube has been talking about this for awhile and has given up on Rio because of this. Damn shame.

yes it would make a difference,but i think that in the beginning they would still suspect of you ( like if you where hiding your erm..'typical' behaviour) this happened to me once, i was drinking coconut water in the calçadão and a black american guy came to talk to me.. he was very polite and everything so i felt comfortable,anyway, after 10 mins he already started the bad behavior,so i would say some girls maybe would suspect of you,so definitelly you willl have to make more effort to show that youre different

Nevertheless, let me contribute to the topic...

In my neighbourhood of Copacabana, I'm pretty much used to see packs of black american guys with their loose clothes and characteristic mannerisms walking around, eating the same burgers from the same fast food chains they get back home, and frequently with a likely coloured prostitute by their side. It is actually a very common sight, especially during summer months.

So I say, black guys might have that heavy stereotype over here, which also isn't an excuse to prove it differently by gaming girls properly and dressing accordingly, ie dropping the whole "in da hood" garments which have no cultural significance over these lands.

Rio and Sao Paulo are too damn big to think a whole lot of Brazilian females to feel this way just because ONE BRAZILIAN FEMALE categorizes black males based on a 2-block area that is KNOWN for P4P. Personally, I would not try to change much of my fashion, habits or approaches from my American characteristics JUST BECAUSE the woman is Brazilian or Trinidadian or anything else. The same verbal things you say to some NYC chick (of the same class, etc) is what you say to some Brazilian chick (of the same class).

So you are going to break out the wardrobe for someone where the ONLY significant difference is the language? "Oh I will holla at some girl on the campus of Fordham University while wearing my Timberlands and she better give me her number in 5 seconds", BUT "I will break out my italian suit for some Brazilian girl from the favela".

I am just saying you can come off as being socially awkward in a place embedded by a different culture, that's it.

Another example are ""misplaced"" foreigners who go walk next to the beach wearing socks and sandals, a very common sight.

It's just about being culturally aware, I guess.

I have been on the university campuses in Brazil, Dominican Republic, France, Panama and Costa Rica wearing Timberlands and either my undergrad or grad-school t-shirt and fitted cap. College chicks talk the same lingo.

Even in a nice hotel...same university gear although it is golf gear with my golf bag hanging off of me and I spit the same exact lines (but in Portuguese, Spanish or French) and those chicks respond the same way. Now maybe golf gives a different vibe but it is not like I am not saying the same jokes that I would say to some American or Canadian chick.

I was also a bit suspect of this "new" poster sweety. I have met tons of sex tourists black and white who have headed down to Rio numerous times, which has made me relunctant to go.

I firmly believe Swagger when he says you must have a basic understanding of the lingo to be able to get "fresh" girls.

I use to hear "stories" about how the girls would wait at the airport for foreigners to take home and how they will take care of you for a "fee" for the duration of your stay. lol

Hey Sweety,

Which spots do you hang out in Brasil? Like I said in my previous post most of the people who hang out in Zona Sul in places I mentioned like Nuth, Zero Zero & Praia speak decent English because those are the spots the upper middle class to rich people hang out. But those clubs don't play any Samba and stick to Techo, Dance and even some Hip-Hop on some nights but mostly don't have many of the type of Brazilian Women that I'm particularly attracted to the most.

I'm versatile in my partying and have kicked in those aforementioned spots to Lapa, Rocinha and the Baile Funke parties in Castelo and Via Show so I have some experience around Brazilians of all socio-economic backrounds. When I tell my well off friends who live in Leblon, Lagoa and Ipanema that I kick it in those places they are surprised because they wouldn't dare set foot in places like that.

I'm just wondering what is mostly of your social agenda Monday through Sunday so I can get an idea on what your flavor is...

Also I would appreciate If you addressed some of the points I made in my earlier post about my observations of Brasil...You can find it here /thread-5209-p...l#pid72949 . I'm always interesed in getting a fresh perspective...Thanks!
