Working Remote in South America... good locations?!
hey guys!

Was hoping for some input...

What are some cities with quality internet, decently cheap, SAFE, and good nightlife? Looking to fly down there for 2 weeks to a month, and see how things go.

Would love some insight as to which cities to choose from? Was thinking Brazil... Rio or SA? maybe Mexico City?

Thoughts?

I think that Medellin is on the list of digital nomad destinations these days.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

San Juan?

What's your reason for that? I hear it's not a great place for a foreigner to live at all.

Safe (in capital letters) and South America don't really go together.

That pretty much eliminates all of South America, except maybe Chile.

from my research it doesn't seem like south america is a very ideal place for someone working a remote role for a US company. internet speed isn't very good.

^I know of a few guys on here who do exactly that and it doesn't seem to be too much of an issue, at least the times zones synch up, unlike being based in Asia.

Have you done much research on how much internet speed you would really need as a minimum?

You might be surprised how small that number is. Depends on your field, though.

I'd throw Lima into the mix along with Colombia.

The cost of living is probably only slightly more expensive than the Colombian cities for westerners. Seemingly endless number of cute young feminine latinas. Good variety of nightlife. Almost perfect weather with fresh ocean air to clean out the smog. Great food.

And as far as safety goes I really struggle to remember a time when I have felt unsafe here in Lima. Even outside of Miraflores/Barranco/San Isidro in areas like downtown Lima after dark it's not really as dangerous as you would expect. Also, looking and being physically imposing to potential predators should not be hard for guys on this forum to do in Lima. Uber is reliable at most hours so it limits your need to take taxis which is a plus too. That said, it's still Latin America.
