RE: Five Game Tips I Learned From My Dad
Just found this thread, that's gold. I'm glad that you had an alpha father - not many people do.

My father was pretty alpha, but absent. He tried hiring the best lawyers to fight for custody, but because of equality, I was able to see him 4 days per month. He got dumped by my mother when I was 19 months old, because she found someone more exciting - who dumped her 1 year after.

Only when I reached 18 I made the decision, as an adult, to go live with my father. We did a lot of activities, but before turning 18, I wasn't able to do any of those activities, due to have being raised by a single mom:
- Using a chainsaw
- Driving a motorcycle
- Go-kart racing
- Approaching girls
- Changing a tire
- Etc.

All this stuff had to be learned from scratch. He did his best to show me things and help me catch up on my life. My mother surely did as good as she could, but it's impossible to raise a child properly with a parent missing.

Your father is a hell of a man. I'd also like to thank you for this write up .

One thing I really like about what you said about your dad was he talked to everybody. I'd like to do that this summer. Since I am an introvert that would be a hell of an 180 for me.

Just realized tomorrow is exactly 10 years to the day since my dad died. Not a day goes by when I don't have at least a passing thought about him.

Miss you, Senior CleanSlate.

Great write up good sir. Especially loved #1 (relevant to my thinking at the moment), along with #4 & #5.

Hey CleanSlate, your post gave me chill mate.

Your father reminded me a lot of mine. He also died a few years back.
My mom still unable to recover from the loss they were married for 40 years.

He was the classic Italian that would make everyone around him feel comfortable, cracking jokes and looked like he always knew what to say and when.
The craziest thing to me was that even when we were travelling and he did not know how to speak the host country language he would still make people laugh and women get tingles lol

Also he had quite a few girls chasing after him as he was a really good looking 50 year something, knew how to make my mom for jealous thats for sure Dodgy

As your father he was very hot temper, I can recall at least three or four times him fist fighting with people out of road rage or similar. He used to be an athlete when he was young so maintained quite in shape even though he was not training anymore once he got older.

The main things I have learned from him is to be generous with your family/friends as they always be there for you, fighting hard for what you want and do not let dark moment discourage you as it can not rain forever!

P.S. when (if) I settle down I wouldnt mind to be with a girl from Lebanon, as all the Lebanese I have met are amazing people! And you guys have so much in common with Italian culture (Family values, respect of traditions, passionate about food etc.)

RE: Five Game Tips I Learned From My Dad
What an excellent topic. I feel bad for the upcoming generation and the fathers that will have to raise them. I just hope there are enough good men out there to keep it from being a total catastrophe.

My father just passed over the summer. He wasn't a war hero or anything like that, but he was very deeply religious and active in his community. It's really weird: I didn't even recognize a lot of his teachings until I reflected on his life after he'd suddenly passed away. It could probably be years before I understand everything. I just wish he was still around to teach me more, though I think that the short and temporary nature of his life and everyone's lives lends their teachings far more importance.

RE: Five Game Tips I Learned From My Dad
Good thread. Sorry about your father.

The paying tabs thing is typical Lebanese. Every dinner has a half hour fight at the end over who pays.

My late father was 15 years older than my mom. He was very ugly and she was one of the most beautiful women I've seen; looked like a Hollywood starlet.
They stayed together until his death.

Thing is, he had no game in the traditional sense. He was very non social and didn't care about anything except reading and his job. Money meant little to him.
His one asset was his intellect.

Her family noticed the age difference but they respected his education too much.

He got her through shear persistence.

I remember one time we were cracking jokes at how antisocial he is and my mother's brother shut us all up and said your father is the smartest man I know.

To have your wife's brother respect you so much for something other than status and money is something.

Incredible post, CleanSlate. It makes me reflect on my relationship with my own father. I think I have a tendency to sometimes focus on his shortcomings and the ways he's failed me, rather than the valuable lessons I should be learning from him.

I'd rep you again if I could!

RE: Five Game Tips I Learned From My Dad
Sometimes I read my own post everytime it gets bumped, and it brings a smile to my face everytime.

I’ll say this. If your dad is alive and your relations with him are at least halfway decent, talk to him more. Ask him questions. Anything you want to know but don’t, ask him. You might be surprised at what he tells you.
