Setting aside from the gender swapping in remakes of classic movies, anyone else think this is truly a period of creativity bankruptcy in Hollywood? Every movies coming out from hollywood seems to either be a comic book adaption or a remake of a classic movie. When's the last time an original movie was made that wasn't a reboot/remake/book adaption? Then to add further insult to injury they're shoving down their SJW agenda having all female casts.

In order to greenlight a project there has to be an already popular work and fan base associated with the script. These includes:

Remake
comics
books
shows
sequels

Everything else is simply Niche.

There are exceptions such as if a tier 1 director and 6 of the best actors sign on to an original project, the studio will likely greenlight. this doesn't happen often. If it does its usually set to open in Oscar season.

There are mini studios and independents that make more original work.

As the foreign market approaches 70% this will likely only continue. If they will watch a film in English most people want to see things they can relate to Universally like Batman. Also the share of revenue of big films has increased. Sometimes one project can save or studio or really damage it which makes them take as little risk as possible which means absolutely no original ideas.

I've been seeing ads recently for an "Ocean's 8" which stars Rihanna, Helena Bonham-Carter, Mindy Kaling and several other popular actresses. It's apparently a spinoff of the original series.

There are a few, but you have to be incredibly discerning, here's ones that are not sequels:

Oblivion was an excellent original sci-fi, but called mediocre and boring by critics (probably too archetypal for them). Lovely clean but real design and flow, and a (mostly) quiet peaceful feeling reminiscent of 70's sci fi, huge budget only a few characters. I loved everything about it, amazing soundtrack. Some may say its unoriginal with ideas, so is most sci-fi, but for me its the way they're done that matters. Don't watch any trailers for it, as many did. Its a great complete story, that has a good backstory too. It's a very bright woke film too.





Nightcrawler and Sicario are great.
Baby Driver was great.
Only the Brave was a true story and good one (not from USA so I didn't know the story and I was floored). I couldn't recommend this one highly enough. It and Nightcrawler are must watches.

I'll give Interstellar and Ex Machina a mention too.

They cannot reward the male gaze that much.

The entire movie is about to hit the theaters soon and not much of any promotion. I think that they are expecting a Ghostbusters fail and are just saving the cash - hoping for enough cat-ladies and strong independent women to flock to the theaters to break even.





Note how they take a jab at Russian hackers as if that is an actual thing - the Russian hackers are hacking everything - the election, movie ratings - they are indeed responsible for all the stuff while the wide public is full-on progressive feminist.

Tomb Raider 2018 barely made a profit, if at all.
Annihilation came & went without any impact / fanfare (despite being 'saved' by Netflix).

Plus with little competition from Soylo & it's estimated budget of only - $70 million USD; it doesn't have to earn a ridiculous amount to achieve a profit.

They still need to make 220 mio. $ at the least to turn a profit even if they have curbed marketing to a trickle.

Red Sparrow made 150 mio. $ gross worldwide - so they made some 60 mio. $ - they only lost some estimated 30-40 mio. $ on it.

They are counting the Force Awakens as a win for GRRLLLPOWER as if a legion of female fans has created the franchise.

But I do hope that they paid the cast of Ocean 8 the usual 80% of the male dollar - that should have saved them some cash.
