The thing is, healthcare is something where the "free" market just doesn´t work that well and America is a good example of it. Just look at health expenditure as a total (% of GDP) in the US. It´s much higher and the Return on Investment is clearly not flattering. The health of the american population in general is clearly not better than the one in Western Europe or Japan. Just take a peak at the Life expectancy (not all of it is due to dietary differences) or the fact that if you are diagnosed with cancer, it can bankrupt you or be your death sentence in America (if you don´t have a good private plan), while the healthcare system of a european nation, will take care of the costs of your treatment.

Due to the enormous size and negotiation power of the national healthcare systems they can get better deals on prices of medicine to name just one advantage. And by the way, you can still have a private healthcare insurance too if you want. So you can have the best of both worlds.

And sure we pay more taxes to fund our healthcare system. But in my opinion it´s worth it and a majority of Europeans think it´s worth it.

The high wages some Americans make are clearly not sustainable going forward.

Consider a German machinist working in a Bavarian Mittelstand. The company he works for is the world's only supplier of some special valve component used in oil pipelines, to create a completely random example. The reason his company is the world's only supplier and can charge thousands of dollars for this component is due to decades, in some cases centuries, of accumulated engineering and metallurgical know-how that borders on art and is unmatched by any competitor. So this German machinist might make an income of USD $50k, and his wage is supported by real cash flow from oil projects all over the world.

On the other hand, think of a 50 year old public high school teacher in some shitty urban school district in the USA. This guy "teaches" hoodrats who will never amount to anything the finer aspects of American literature or whatever, and makes $100k. This is a completely fictional $100k, it has no basis in value created by the guy earning it.

In Germany, many people making $50k do jobs that actually generate the revenue being used to pay them. In USA there are jobs like that, too, but it is a much smaller fraction. The teachers are paid from tax revenue and borrowing. The people paying taxes are working jobs that in turn also depend on various financial schemes and capital inflows from all over the world. The percentage of people working in real, value generating activities like manufacturing, farming, energy, etc is minuscule. This will inevitably collapse one day.

Another big difference I see between Europe and the US is the inequality . Now I don´t want to sound to cranky, because there are a lot of things I like and even truly admire about the US and its entrepreneurial people. But it´s a fact, that in this regard, both societies are a bit different. Now the way I see it, America is great, if you are an outstanding person. If you truly are elite, in regard to intelligence and work ethic you can achieve great things and make much more money than if you were born in Europe. It´s not a coincidence that Mark Zuckerberg, Sergey Brin or Elon Musk founded their companies in the states. If would have been much more difficult for them (for a number of reasons) to do the same thing in Europe.

Unfortunately, not everybody shares these characteristics. So for maybe 70%-80% of the Americans, I wouldn´t really say that the have a better quality of life than western europeans of the same "category" (working hours, maternity leave etc.). And for the lowest 20th percentile I think life is definitely worse than the same group in Europe. But this is just my opinion.

When you graduate in Engineering your first salary can be from 40.000 to 55.000€, depending on the job and the field. And yes you will rise it over the years but not in such an extreme like in the US. Still you are better of, can afford more and have some savings then just a person that works at Aldi. They will never hit the bottom as hard as in the US but there is a small gap. I guess thats what the European system is about, keep the social gap low for the peace of the society.

There is a reason why all those super rich people are from outside of Europe, from the US or Asia, also such companies like google, apple, amazon or facebook, outstanding careers and so on are not common in Europe. You can say it holds you down but also argue it keep you in balance. Arnold Schwarzenegger would never made it in Germany that far. So if you have talent you should better move. The US is about extremes in some way, they have high elite but also a very down bottom. Europe is about the middle.

About the gyms, you have the chains for 19,90€ per months everywhere. Now some even open for lower. Gyms are super cheap. Also food in the supermarket is extreme cheap in Germany. Its just not common to eat out every day. So yeah maybe in the US you can afford it more easy but what kind of food it is? I guess fast food or? When you go out in Germany you go to a decent restaurant with good service and food. But you can always get a Asia box with chicken and nudles or a Döner for a 3 to 5 €.

The driver license, well what do you guys do in the US? In Germany you have to take several theoretical and practical lessons first. Night drive, highway drive, long distance drive, city drive and so on. Price is more about 1500 €.

I agree that there is a mentality that prefer to play safe then take a risk in Germany, also that outstanding people have a hard time. On the other hands we don't have the social extreme but it chance now.
Whats also an advantage in Germany, women don't have such a lot of rights like in the US. When you divorce the one who earns more has to support the lower earner. This means also a women has to pay a man in some cases. Furthermore when you pay for the child and for her, you get regular checks if it is still necessary. For example after a few years the court say she can work again. All the agenda of bring women into work lower the live time financial support for women. So marry and divorce is not a business model in Germany. Maybe for some rich it is but in general women have a decent or even a high job qualification. So the law say, they can work soon again.

When I mention "cultural differences" I'm talking about the priorities in life and life-goals americans and Europeans do have. In the case of Germany and Sweden, they both do have much more mature and emotionally stable populations. Americans even at 40's still seem like a teenager stuck in the body of an adult. I guess quality of life in america will never be the same than in europe for that very same reason. The american positivism ("you will make it brah") only brings selfishness and huge economical gpa which is only decremental for whole society.

You argued with Global Man on page 2 that America has more people on welfare than Sweden (which isn't true anymore because of Sweden's large Islamic population living on welfare, but regardless let's just look at "official" stats). I said no, it doesn't, if you just look at White Americans, the closest relatives to Europeans, and compare them to Europeans on welfare. That was a legit response by me and it was totally in line with the topic.

You then reply with a one-sentence reply "What does race have to do with this guys," which is just so detached from reality that there's nothing to do but mock such a statement. So why should I give you serious replies when you don't give me serious replies? The fact I could just perform a 2-second search across Google or /pol/ and find a video of Swedes getting attacked by Muslims seriously illustrates the naivete or willful ignorance of your attitude.

Race is the cumulative effects of cultural choices and environmental adaptations made over thousands of years - there is no undoing that in a generation, not even 10 generations. Evolution is real.

So, for the purposes of comparing quality of life between America and Europe, you have to compare what is comparable. Whites to Whites between continents, since they share the most similar culture and evolutionary traits. And what we see is that Whites in America live better by almost every standard. Higher birth rates, higher average income, less likely to be fucked up by crime (thanks to the retarded immigration policy Europeans have), and although the poor in your country have it slightly better it won't last. You guys have taken on way too many burdens due to ignorance about race and culture and you will suffer huge for it. Especially with oil being as low as it is, this will crush Nordic economies.

In fact, I would argue that the poor in your countries are already at lower standards that the USA, but the relevant statistics have not been produced to reveal it yet. And they probably will not be produced for years and years from now, given how freedom of information is censored by your tyrannical governments.

Also, I would add that the reason homelessness is so bad in the USA is because of terrible property and housing laws. The houses are kept artificially expensive due to bailouts and other market manipulations, and no one can settle or cultivate the land because either the state or federal government "owns" it, so it just sits unused for 99% of the time. These are political problems that can be fixed, however. We won't need to worry about sparking massive wars due cultural conflicts with the world's most violent religion.

This is more or less true. Maybe not like Aldi guy (I think those make min salary) but certainly like an average office pen-pusher. I could never understand this american obsession with doctors.It is just unnatural for Europe.In Europe (including the UK) they are in the middle of the sexual hierarchy ladder, women simply don't find them attractive, and money is not the last reason. And in EE doctors are on the bottom of any ladder, only weirdos and outcasts end up doing medicine (medical courses are also not competitive there).

Unemployment facts are usually distorted to make the numbers look good in any country, the true rates in Canada are alot higher than what is reported.

I have been to Sweden, Germany and USA, I can tell you all of them have good points and all of them have bad points. It boils down to which points suit you the most.
