Off to Kosovo today

It is the newest country in the world - only 3 years old - but it seems to be only partly recognised

To answer your question though, most of the civilized world (where Russia politically hardly belongs) recognizes Kosovo so for all formal purposes the answer would be yes. There will never be unilateral recognition of all new nations. China for example doesn't fully consider Taiwan as a sovereign state.

Kosovo may eventually be split in two and join a greater Albania. At least, that's the sanest political serb strategy. In which case I guess you'd be -1 flag

Yes, though strictly speaking their nationalities, as distinct from their statehood, are either Albanian or Serb down there.

There are nations, states and nation states. But let's keep it simple and not worry too much! Do you have money riding on picking up flags or something?

Not really but I am doing an 'around the world in 80 lays' kind of thing right now.

Almost 2 years into this trip.

All part of research for my book mind you. I have been researching quite extensively.

Very cool. I look forward to hearing more about Kosovo. Was advised against venturing down there when I was in Serbia but want to go back to that part of the world soon.

Small country, but three nationalities there - Albanian, Serbian, and Macedonian. So you could technically capture several flags there.
By the way, the US as such a big country should have several flags, too. Many varieties of girls there. Per the Beach Boys song - East Coast girls, West Coast girls, Midwest Farmers' Daughters', etc.

So if you get drunk and take a girl home from the club, and find out the next day she was really a man, does it still count as a flag? Just asking.

Flagging will always be somewhat arbitrary, and these rules are by no means set in stone.

I'd consider Hongkong, Macau, and Taiwan to be more like 'bonus' flags worth chasing after.

Also, if a region or territory was so different (linguistically, culturally, ethnically, etc.) from the rest of the country that it might as well be a seperate nation, then I'd still be willing to count it as a flag.

For example, if I shagged a girl from Tibet Autonomous Region or any of the other regions in China with a Tibetan majority population (or even from the regions of Northeast India populated by Tibetan refugees) I'd count that as a Tibetan flag.
