Quote:MILO YIANNOPOULOS IS NOW #1 on Amazon. Dropping him is going to cost his old publisher a lot of money, and self-publishing will put a lot more money in Yiannopoulos’ pocket anyway. “If you strike me down. . . .”
And frankly, if you know your book is going to be a big seller, why use a publisher at all? And where are publishers once people figure that out?

RE: Milo Yiannopoulos Thread
I found this excerpt about a third way in:
Quote:Like the men’s health gap, the black murder gap is very real, and simply isn’t discussed by black activists. I suspect it’s a matter of tribalism, or ingroup/outgroup psychology, a common occurrence in politics. Like feminists who blame their everyday grievances on an invisible “patriarchy,” or Wi-Fi-enabled Waffen-SS wannabes who think Jews are responsible for everything bad, or Democrats who blame the Russians for Hillary losing the election to Daddy. It’s very easy to dodge responsibility if you have a boogeyman to lump the blame on.
Leftism, which combines tribal identity politics with a disdain for personal responsibility, is the ultimate political expression of this destructive instinct to blame other people for your problems, instead of undergoing the difficult process of self-reflection.
This "difficult process of self reflection" was the appeal of the red pill for me at the start. The pill gave me hope that I could adapt and improve my station in life and it ultimately brought me and many others into this forum. I like the way he words that message. I feel we've been doing a lot of boogeyman-blaming lately and its important that we not forget the self-reflection that brought us here.
There are little nuggets of familiar rants like that quote in the book, mixed in with summaries of internet drama events like trigglypuff and talcum x that are familiar to us in the forum. I haven't really found any new bits of wisdom so far but he packages the political side of redpill thought in a way that the uninitiated might enjoy. The sexual marketplace topic is notably missing which is not surprising because he's gay.

RE: Milo Yiannopoulos Thread
Looks like he is also following through with his lawsuit for $10 million against Simon & Schuster.
Edit: Article
Quote:USA Today - Right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has sued major publishing house Simon & Schuster for $10 million for canceling his book, Dangerous.
His publicist, Matthew Sheldon, confirmed to USA TODAY that the lawsuit was filed in New York Supreme Court Friday morning. "The complaint is public record now," he added.
Yiannopoulos published the book himself on July 4. On Friday afternoon, it was the No. 3 top seller on Amazon.com. (You can read our review here.)
Simon & Schuster issued a statement in response: "Although we have not been officially served, we believe that Yiannopoulos's lawsuit is publicity-driven and entirely without merit. Simon & Schuster will vigorously defend itself against any such action, and fully expects to prevail in court."
The publisher canceled the Dangerous deal in February after podcasts surfaced in which Yiannopoulos seemed to condone sex between men and boys. He then resigned from Breitbart News. He said he does not condone pedophilia, a stance he repeats in his new book.
Yiannopoulous held a rally in front of Simon & Schuster's offices in New York Friday and announced he had filed the lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the State of New York for damages of "at least $10 million."
"They have to pay for silencing conservatives," he said at the rally, according to trade publication Publishers Weekly. "How many books could I have sold with their marketing muscle?"

General James "Mad Dog" Mattis: Nothing, I keep other people awake at night.

I think it's impossible to have a stale brand but a number one book on Amazon. He's just not in the news cycle anymore, so he doesn't drive conversations. But if you look on his Instagram and Youtube, he has massive engagement. He transitioned from culture warrior to celebrity.

Vox Day Wrote:My expectation is that despite its posturing about prevailing "in court" - they are sending a message that they will not settle - S&S will settle for paying off Milo. Why? Because they absolutely do NOT want this to go to discovery. Remember, I am a former Pocket Books author with connections inside S&S, and I have heard that there were conversations between S&S and Amazon concerning Milo and his book that neither company will want to be made public via discovery.
This should be interesting.

Milo Yiannopoulos is throwing a tantrum because his book has flopped
Quote:according to The Guardian, figures from Nielsen Bookscan, which monitors book sales through almost all outlets, show the controversialist has only sold 18,268 copies in the US and 152 in the UK.
Read more: http://metro.co.uk/2017/07/14/milo-yiann...z4mt8ukHfV
First, the allegation of shit sales is coming from the Guardian and other leftie sources.
What's the source of their information? "Nielsen" -- that is, Nielsen Bookscan, which purports to "monitor" book sales through "almost all outlets" and reckon that "because we count what Amazon counts, we think the numbers are at 18,000."
Two problems:
(1) Nielsen Bookscan is shit at counting. This is well-understood in the publishing industry:
https://the-digital-reader.com/2015/07/0...r-numbers/
Quote:Nielsen Bookscan released its estimates of the US print book market last week, which they describe as flat. I on the other hand, am not so sure we can trust their numbers.
From PW:
Sales of print books for the first six months of 2015 were running just about even with the same period in 2014 at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. Units inched up 0.3% in the period, to more than 286 million. While the overall sales trend in the first half of 2015 was similar to the first half of 2014 (when sales were up 0.6% over the first six months of 2013), there were some notable differences, including two major shifts in sales by category.
So Nielsen says that the book market was flat for the first 6 months of the year, but can we really trust those numbers?
If you've been following digital publishing news for any length of time then you know that Nielsen says that Bookscan covers 80% of the market, and you also know that there are any number of authors and agents who would tell you that the Bookscan is about as accurate as Nielsen Pubtrack - in other words, not at all.
Any number of authors and publishers have expressed doubt with the accuracy or completeness of Bookscan (see the comment sections).
In fact, in 2010 agent Kristin Nelson even went so far as to reveal that she had her own system for correcting for Bookscan's deficiencies:
Bookscan is not a whole picture of how a title is doing.
...
For some genres, it can be off by 50 or 60%. That’s a lot. The numbers for literary fiction tend to be a bit more on target as Bookscan seems to capture about 70% of sales for this segment.
Her system was based on comparing Bookscan's data with the actual sales figures from royalty statements passing through her office. The royalty statements don't arrive nearly as fast as Bookscan's data but they they do have the added benefit of being backed up by someone's pocketbook.
Of course, Nelson's post is 5 years old, so it may not be accurate. But I do have a more recent report. The Pseudonymous Data Guy told me last month that the data he saw wasn't even close to being right:
In my own case, I have Ingram-distributed print editions selling on the shelves of Barnes & Noble bookstores as well as indy bookstores, in addition to my Amazon/Createspace online print sales, and I can say for sure that my official Bookscan numbers add up to less than half of the print sales I've already been paid for from either channel alone, let alone both combined, which is what Bookscan claims to be counting.
Or this:
http://readindies.blogspot.com.au/2013/1...an-be.html
Quote:Much like bestseller lists, which I’ve written about in Bestseller Lists Can Lie, Nielsen BookScan sales data doesn’t actually show the total sales of any book in any particular category or at any particular time. More accurately, Nielsen BookScan sales data is reflective of a statistical sample of sales of particular books in particular categories or genres at a particular time. More plainly, Nielsen BookScan sales data captures a relatively small portion of book sales in particular markets and locations.
However, Nielsen BookScan sales data is often presented as if it shows a book’s total actual sales or equally as bad some imagined percentage of actual sales. Even Amazon.com which should absolutely know better as a digital online leader misrepresents to authors what Nielsen BookScan sales data actually is. BTW, your Author Central account on Amazon.com shows sales data for Nielsen BookScan US (which is itself one segment of the ten currently tracked markets).
(b) Amazon itself is pretty shit at counting.

RE: Milo Yiannopoulos Thread
18,000 copies sold less than two weeks after publication isn't a flop by any normal metric, anyway. They're just being catty.
99% of authors in all genres, fiction and nonfiction both, would love to hit 18k sales a year across their whole list, let alone on a single title in ~10 days.
Is it selling as well as it would've if he'd published it before his fall from grace? Probably not. But I doubt he's crying about making a mere $125,000 in 10 days, even if their numbers are perfectly accurate.
