He focuses on higher representation of Hispanics and Blacks in the prison system.

Why doesn`t he go visit the mess he made in Europe the little rat traitor. Maybe have a sleepover in the migrants tent in Berlin... Cant stand the guy and his "cool attitude" Seems like he cant make up his mind. Is he Obama from the block or a statesman?

Notice he was in a federal prison. He can release every single person in the federal prison system tomorrow if he wants. Not only can he release them, but he can restore them to full civil rights through pardoning, which will allow them to vote, serve in the military, own a firearm, get any gainful employment, etc.

Yes he is working on his legacy, but at the same time, i don't think people should be jailed for smoking marijuana or other weak-ass recreational drugs(something that the children of the elite will get away with.). If caught and you don't have a rich daddy, this will forever destroys your employment prospects in corporate america.

Despite his otherwise left leanings, i like the fact that Obama pointed out how boys should not be jailed for "boys just being boys". This is particularly important with the feminist grip on everything, the criminalization of masculinity and heterosexuality will just escalate. Obama pointed out how sanity needs to be restored, and how behaviors that used to be ignored in boys are now being criminalized. I agree with him.

Abraham Lincoln is the home spurn statesman. Bill Clinton is a cool motherfucking statesman. JFK is the "hollywood" statesman. Teddy Roosevelt is the badass, frontier statesman. Putin projects that too. There is nothing wrong with that. A statesman shouldn't be stiff upperclass british fellow.

It`s not for everyone to make the balance between being "Joe Public" and "US president" Bill Clinton actually was a master of it. He could step on every scene but never lose his character. Have a look at Obama on a talkshow and compare it to when he address a new war to the American people. Those are two different persons, and that is what I point out.

I don`t have sleepless nights over it, but he is a first class weasel...

Mostly BS, I used to deal with criminals as part of my job on a regular basis. Yes when they are in their prison cell or being interviewed they will come across as being the most decent guys imaginable, some will even cry and shake. But of course the story was completely different when they were beating up their wife and kids or robbing a weaker person on the streets.

Perhaps 2-4% of them are like how the media presents, actually waiting for a chance to turn around and have just been misfortunate but overwhelming they are predators, sociopaths and hustlers.

Too little too late.

Obama is on this "goodwill spree" to do all this grandstanding while he is a lame duck to make sure his Library has stuff to put inside of it (Legacy).

This would of made much more of a impact if he did this in his 2nd year in office - first term.

What moves will he make to destroy the crony prison system, and war on drugs which acts as a system to keep quotas in check for those mega prisons and the corps who run and profit from them?

He won't make any.

This was a good "first" to happen but I get annoyed as he is just pandering with empty hope. At the very least all these dudes he sat down with, any that are not violent offenders, or did not commit extreme felonies, he should pardon them. If some dude is in there for smoking and selling a little weed get him the fuck out so he can contribute to society. It costs 100K to house each inmate in America, let those men come into the real world prison and become wage slaves like the rest of the masses.

If any people here have worked with criminals or people in prison they would know that most of them are not contributing members to society and have no desire to. Most of them are drain inside and outside of prison.

Constitution45 touched on what most people don't know which is many of the offenders are far from innocent drug offenders.

Most prisoners in federal prison are felony in possession of firearms with possession and intent to deliver. In addition to that they usually have a violent history as well. I know parts of the criminals justice system are fucked up but most of these guys are right where they belong. In addition to that sentencing is extremely soft now and charges you would expect 3-5 years gets 6 months, a program and probation.

Police officers, prison wardens, frontline medical practitioners. Deal with drug addicts, felons on a day to day basis, it is essentially their life.

The narrative being led here by Barrack Obama is pretty typical and actually has been going on for a long time now. The idea and notion that criminals are a victim of circumstances and require more opportunities and services designed around caring and being compassionate.

Surely law enforcement officers who deal with these people for their entire careers are choosing the option which is most effective through the basis of trial and error.

Services and rehabilitation centre along with the whole caring approach are provided for in a lot of places (Im not talking about the U.K here) Mostly they are used and abused. If it is a treatment centre for drug addicts, you can be sure that will turn into essentially a drug dealing den. If its a shelter for reformed criminals, this will then turn into a gang house.

In American culture especially I have seen a gradual acceptance and normalisation of gangsterism. Perhaps this is nothing new but after watching a lot of t.v shows, movies and of course actual documentaries like this. Gangsters or felons are portrayed as being decent good people. This is simply not true.

I think its just a case of the protestant victim complex.

I guess i just have to take your word for it. I must confess i don't understand your argument at all. Because the attitude, demeanor and vibe you will have when on a talkshow SHOULD BE DIFFERENT from when you are addressing a new war to American people.

Because war is a serious business, not some charming talkshow shit.

The same way that the attitude you will have when telling people they are about to die will be different from when telling people some jokes and drinking beer.

I don't like Obama and think his policies have been disastrous for America, but one thing I do respect and like about him is that he makes an effort to connect with average everyday Americans which is a skill all in its own that not every politician can pull off. He can go into any setting and you'll never see him uncomfortable around regular people or poor people. This is the reason he was able to win twice, because of his charisma and the ability to connect with the common folk.
