Spending Money For Chicago (1 week)
Hey - could someone please let me know a rough idea of a daily budget needed for 7 night solo trip to Chicago in October?

Forget the hotel - this is purely food, drink and play money.

I want to see the sights (I'm not in to museums - just happy to literally see the sights) and obviously night-life.

Cheers!

I'd say $2,000-$3000

^ $2000/day?? I'm sure you meant week. Outside of hotels, you can probably keep to 200 to 300 if you're eating decent meals (sit down joints) and having only a few drinks a night. Cut out sit down joints and maybe substitute street or fast food and you cut 50 plus or more per day.

If you're trying to get into clubs and/or bars and drink the night away, include a few hundred more for those nights.

A lot of the good stuff in chicago as far as sights is free. Paying about $50 to go up to the Sears Tower is whack.

Thanks guys. I had budgeted for around $200 per day and don't plan on high end food places. Just the 'must do' Chicago tourist dishes once and then budget the rest. I just want to be able to be comfortable and go where the heck I want when I want. That's the idea of solo travel after all!

I chose Chicago due to game and always wanting to go so I wanna get it right.

Food will run you $10 a meal even for quick food places (there isn't much fast food in Chicago unless you count chipolte or jimmy johns). Drinks will run you $7+ for a beer and $12+ for a cocktail in the nice areas. Check out the architecture boat tour for things to do, sometimes they have discounted tickets on groupon. There's also plenty to see for free.

Thanks. Do you think $200 a day is a realistic amount?

Yea I was referring to the week, I'm thinking of clubbing etc.... There's a shitload of fast food mostly hotdog joints, gyros etc.... If you're planning on really going hard be ready to spend because Chicago is far from a cheap city.
