I've noticed that quite a few girls have told me they prefer chubby average-looking guys over ripped ones. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this just a case of everyone liking different things or are there other,more ego-attacking reasons why a woman would say such a thing?

I've heard this too, and not only that I've been noticing a lot of fat guys with in shape girlfriends lately.

Full disclosure: I'm big fat fatty. BMI 32, 6'1" 112kg I think.

It has nothing to do with attractiveness and everything to do with insecurity.

"I prefer chubby guys" = "I feel like a big fat whale so I go for chubby guys because I feel like I don't have to worry about being the fat one in the pairing".

Also women still biologically desire a man who they feel can protect them, being chubby isn't necessarily a disadvantage in that regard (just look at the average Hell's Angel to see what I mean). Notice you don't hear any women saying they prefer short guys?

I myself am more likely to make a move on a chubby woman than her slim friend for the same reason - I feel like I have more of a chance with the chubster than the skinny girl, who has more options whereas the fatty knows she can't access the same level of man as easily.

Don't get me wrong, if an insecure girl could choose between a "Dad-bod" guy and Channing Tatum she'd be on Channing's D faster than you could blink. But even hamsters have some reasoning ability.

My ex told me this when we were dating. I was athletic and fit at that point. She had recently lost a fair bit of weight, but was easily able to put it back on, though at this point, was looking slim. I reasoned her comment to the following:
1) She felt intimidated by my physique; or
2) She was fearful that she'd eventually put her weight back on and felt more secure with a fat guy

This is true. Chicks hate skinniness much more than a guy having some fat. The guy with some fat at least looks 'big'. Being muscular is optimum, but after that I'd pick being fat over being skinny any day.

To say something doesn't equal to believe, endorse or agree with something. I can say I drink water only, whereas I'll be chugging on a cheap beer in a dark and seedy bar a few hours later.

Empirical science tells us normal, mentally well-balanced women prefer males with 0.9 waist-to-hip ratio because it tells them that that this particular conspecific is healthy, free of diseases and has good reproductive fitness. Girls say one thing, do the other. Judge, then act accordingly.

You have to put this bullshit in the proper context.

The average-looking, chubby guy is better for her for a relationship because he'll worship the ground that his "better looking" girlfriend walks on, which means she'll hold all the power, and she can be secure in the likelihood that he will leave and/or cheat on her is incredibly low because the last thing he wants to do is fuck things up and go back to being single.

The better-looking guy is better for her for casual sex. If she's horny and wants to get to fucked, then she would prefer to get dicked down by someone who she actually wants to fuck and not someone she would just be providing sex for who otherwise couldn't get it without the umbrella of a relationship -- i.e. average-looking, chubby guy.

Most women can't handle a higher-value/better-looking guy in a relationship, not if their value isn't on a par; they'll be insecure the whole time because they know that at any moment they could get dumped/cheated on. They'll even be reluctant to bring him around other women they know out of fear that they will try to fuck him and steal him away from them.

I see a lot of guys making this shit about "guys who lift", and I keep saying the gym game isn't a just add water game. It takes a hell of a lot of time and dedication just to even start looking like you actually lift, and a lot of guys who are deep in the gym culture are stuck in A-ball with women because they have other issues that cancel out the fact that they're more physically attractive than the average dude.

At the end of the day, most people have what they can get AND keep, on sight, someone may look like they could do better, but if they're not, then that's a just sign that something else is deficient, and when you can recognize those signs, then you can assess someone's true value, which is often lower than what meets the eye.
