A press conference hosted by Cologne’s chief of police Wolfgang Albers this afternoon confirmed the attacks had been perpetrated by migrants, all of whom were found to be carrying official immigration paperwork by police officers at the time. Mr. Albers said “the crimes have been committed by a group of people who mostly come from her in appearance from the North African and Arab countries”, and that he found the situation “intolerable”.

In addition to the sex attacks, there were several brawls between migrant gangs at the railway station, and large numbers of fireworks were fired into the crowds and at the hapless police. A witness said: “There were thousands of men. Simply firing into the crowd, and as my girlfriend and I wanted to get us to safety, but they blocked our way. We were so scared! We fled from the station”.

Despite dozens of men and women having been attacked, the area being comprehensively monitored by CCTV, and having thousands of potential suspects, Cologne police have arrested just five men so far in relation to the new year’s eve attacks.

The police chief may yet have serious questions to answer on the attacks, which follow a year of record breaking migration, after it emerged that just ten officers were dispatched to the station after the report of a gang sex assault in the early hours of the morning, and unverified accusations started to circulate on-line of officers even ridiculing a victim for not having been vigilant enough to avoid being attacked. Breitbart London has approached Cologne police for comment.

The police union said of the incidents: “This is a completely new dimension of violence. This is something we have not known”.

I think it's very naive to assume Merkel and the German political class in general are "dumb" or that they suffer from post WW2 guilt. They fully know what they are doing and what the consequences will be. They are just doing what their overlords are telling them to do.

It depends hard on the state and how the authorities like to deal with it. Cologne belongs to NRW that also has No Go Areas. We will see a split in the level between the 16 states in Germany. There is already a gap in economy, education, safety. I will get bigger.

I don't believe that. The media is only reporting on Cologne because people documented it with cell phones.

For all the small towns out there, crimes happen everyday and are never reported. And the Cops are told not to report it to media either, and media outlets are careful not to trigger hate speech laws by talking about it too much.

These NYE events were just too big to ignore, like Paris. Again, more liberal sympathy but nothing will be done, like in France.

Women are largely sheltered from violence in the West. A lot of them fantasise about aggressive bad boys, but don't really understand the reality of what these types of people actually do.

I remember being younger and seeing a black gangster type completing dominate a smaller elder African man on a London bus. He was playing music loud and the older man complained, the younger man pretty much threatened him, and even got him to get off at the next stop. Unrelated to either parties, there was this cute blonde college girl who was carrying a violin case, and she genuinely seemed turned on by the whole incident and even had a giant grin on her face. My guesses are that she was attending a nearby university in this bad neighbourhood.

Moral of the story, is that when issues of security and towing a hard line comes into play, it is usually and should be men who take charge. Lets be honest here, if the hypothetical invading army was full of men who were more aggressive and macho than the soon to be invaded men. Seems like someone ordered the big news outlets to release the information before people see it on facebook instead of the news.
Comments are blowing up right now. The article on the "Zeit" gathered ~1300 comments over night in the time it was up (yesterday evening 10 pm until now -> 10 hours).
They are starting to lose the narrative, especially if the Police states the truth in press conferences regarding all this stuff.

For example, lower website quality, less retention rate, that sort of thing?

After a renaissance in commenting using disqus and facebook in 2014, in the year 2015 most news websites either removed their comment sections entirely or hid them.

I guess something between moderation expenses and censorship.
As of now, the censorship is quite high so there is a need for a lot of moderation.

They've definitely lost the narrative. This New Years was gloomier than usual largely due to this crisis.

What the people need is an alternative narrative and being spurred into action.
