Curious if anyone has any thoughts . . .

The bad news--I'm in my 40's.
The good news--I have earned a "sabbatical" so I am location-independent (only need to do 3-4 hours/day of reading/writing) Jan. '16--August '16. Starting to focus on what to do.

Live in DC; want to experience somewhere else. I'm a NY native and have lots of friends there, so thinking of renting an apartment in Queens. Seems like a great dating market.

But, should I push myself and go to Eastern Europe instead? Honestly, am worried about being too isolated, having trouble maintaining relationships once back in DC, etc. But, I'm not getting any younger.

I've been to Berlin and Prague. It didn't appear easier to pick girls up there than in NYC to me, but I was only a tourist admittedly.

Am I lazy to think custom-suited down game will go better for a guy my age in NYC than say, Krakow?

Have read threads on Philippines, Colombia, etc.--great info. but don't seem like good places for me. I do best with "sniper game" at night at upscale hotel lounges. Just my thing.

Don't have any language skills other than crappy French and Spanish; poor aptitude I think for getting more.

Being in your 40's is not bad news unless you are out of shape, look old, and/or dress poorly.

You should maximize this opportunity. January is going to be a tough month in E. Europe and NYC. You have to open up your mind and horizons man.

Why not stay in Greece or Southern Italy for the winter months. Relax. Hit on tourists. When the warmer weather rolls around, make your way to Eastern Europe (Kiev/Peter/Moscow).

Don't make women the sole deciding factor. You need a suitable combination of culture/food/women/weather. You're actually going to be living there, so these factors are much more important than in a 2 week stay.

You will grow more as a man living 8 months in Europe than 8 months in Queens.

I suggest you go to Europe.

I don't know about you, but I'm in my late 20s and I find that time goes by quicker every year. Your eight month stint is going to fly by. You won't have time to feel isolated. I wouldn't worry about maintaining relationships in DC. Eight months is nothing. I just did a year in Budapest, Hungary and I can't believe how quickly a year went past.

English is widely understood throughout Europe, you'll get by alright for eight months. You will be able to meet and bed women in Europe using only English. Just speak clearly and slowly.

Gaming in Eastern Europe takes a bit more effort and a more subtle approach, but the rewards are well worth it.

I would spend those 8 months in Europe instead of another American city, without hesitation.

Take your first month to travel in EE and see if you can find a spot that suits you. If you're worried about culture shock, you can always go to a place like Tallinn, Estonia which is VERY Americanized(in 1 month there I can count on one hand the number of people who didn't speak perfect English). It's a bit small though. If it were me, I'd hit at least 3 spots. Someplace south like Romania or Serbia, Poland and then either Tallinn or Helsinki. You could spend 10 days in each spot and get a decent feel for things then decide if you want to pick one or head to NYC. And honestly, if you are a social person like me, you can use your situation as a conversation starter and get a ton of input from locals that may have even better ideas.

I second this. If you're a NY native, changing borroughs to Queens probably wouldn't change much at all. In addition, I assume you're returning to NY after your sabbatical anyways.

I'd give EE a try.

Thanks--especially to Menace--some good thoughts there--no need to tie myself to one place (not sure why I was limiting my thinking that way)--think I'll buy a one-way ticket to Europe and make my way around Greece and the Balkans in January and then go from there . . .

Europe - no contest.

January is cold in Eastern Europe. I would look at Southern Europe, Spain would be ideal - Barcelona sounds like a good spot for you.

April I would make my way to Eastern Europe, tons of places to choose from.

June til August - Budapest would be my choice.

You've got 8 months so why not both? You already know what New York is like so go to Europe first with the view to go to New York after three months so you've got some sort of comfort/safety net but if you like it so much, you can always stay out there for the full time.

Eastern Europe 100%. You will meet cooler, less commercially programed people and for a guy in his 40s who I'm assuming is not rich, you will be able to hook up with a lot more hot women in their 20s.

Have you read many of the Ukraine threads on here? Older dudes pulling hot model quality young girls. You've got to experience that before you die and settle down.

When I'm fully immerse in enjoying life, the answers to my life's major questions come easily.

Unless you're truly living and doing your passion/purpose, it's just a job so why not enjoy life until you do figure out what your passion/purpose is.

It sounds to me like you're making the internal debate of staying in your comfort zone vs facing the fear of stepping outside it and experiencing something different. Its obvious you're not happy with your current situation. Be a man and make the change you want to see in your life... it will pay dividends.

Good news 40 isn't a negative at all in the EE or NY for that matter Id imagine... Why not do both? EE isn't great in the winter because of the weather fall is awesome mainly in my opinio because of all the college tail running around... Who doesn't like college tail?

Thanks guys--it is about getting outside of the comfort zone--have only been outside the US (other than a brief stint in Hong Kong) as a tourist previously.

I'm glad I asked.

I'm gonna hit Southern Europe first, transition to E. Europe in spring, and can always come back to NYC.

It's my inner beta that I haven't killed that wants to spend all 8 months in one place beacause --"relationship."

Nope--gonna hunt around in new territory and see what's available.

Agree w/ posters that 40's not so bad--have been hitting the gym since got out of LTR recently and my confidence is way up. And got a couple of bespoke suits. Feels great wearing them--fake it 'til you make it, I guess . . .

What a great opportunity.

I would hit South America for the winter: Colombia/Brazil then EE for the Spring.

Forget Berlin, maybe the worst talent I have seen in Europe.

In your 40s you should be in Ukraine.
