I just started playing this game off my brother's recommendation. I'm not planning on ever paying, but it's a fun distraction. In a lot of ways it reminds me of chess.

Glad to see others here play this. I was enjoying it but I found the RNG to get a bit much in recent updates such as the joust mechanic, and not to mention the classic knife juggler/muster combo.

I've been playing again.

The only problem I have with hearthstone is that there are far too many junk cards so deck crafting gets boring becuase it's hard to make certain cards workable.

I mostly play warlock and warrior. I'm a control player at heart, so I love zoo decks and fatigue decks. A 20 minute game of cat and mouse is right up my alley.

I think a lot of the reason there are so many junk cards is because Blizzard so far has released many strong neutrals that just dominate their mana spots. There's been almost no reason to play any other 4-mana minion besides Piloted Shredder, because it's simply the best 4-drop hands down. Sometimes mages play Water Elemental or Druids play Keeper of the Grove, but mostly it's just Shredder. Same with 7 mana and Dr. Boom. There are actually a lot of good cards, but you can't use them because the GREAT cards make them look awful.

Luckily with formats being introduced this month, we should see some more variety. I'm ready to retire Dr. Boom, Shredder, Loatheb, Haunted Creeper, etc.

Also, what kinds of decks do you guys typically play? I've mostly been sticking to Renolock, Dragon Priest and Anyfin Paladin recently.

I play tempo mage, zoo and control warrior.

I try to learn all the meta decks every season. It keeps the game fresh. Right now at rank 9 no ladder with only tempo mage. I like to do a climb with 1 deck the entire way. That way you really learn about the meta and how to defeat it.

Zoo shits on tempo mage, but I'm improving the match up by trying to win every zoo game.

I've been playing a lot of Arena recently, but I've run out of gold

I'm not keen on Ranked currently with all two of the most cancer decks of all time running rampant (Secret paladin, aggro shaman) so I've cooled off playing in the last week or so, just making sure my dailies don't overflow.

Use this tempo deck you'll go legend. It craps on zoo and kills control before turn 6 on average.

I'll give the samseau tempo mage a try. I'll report back. I'm rank 7 right now after 2 days of climbing. Going for legendary this season given my auspicious start.

The noise to substance ratio on hearthpwn is unreal. You have guys who have never broken rank 10 posting decks and stuff. Also, just nabbing some experts deck just isn't a good method IMO.

I'm a f2p player who has been consistently playing for about 18 months. Saved up enough gold to get all of the expansions, and now I'm trying to get better at Arena. I've eked out a lot of 6+ wins on Arena, but only with Paladin, Rogue, Mage, and once with Warlock. I probably play Rogue the best.

I play constructed to earn gold, and I generally like playing the Injured Camel Hunter deck by j4ckiechan.

Been playing this game since release. I'm a nasty player. Was infinite Arena back in the day before it turned gay.

Arena is a waste of money nowadays. Too much random bullshit, not really possible to stay consistent anymore.

I have almost 8K gold, I have nothing to spend it on.

Principles... I like to build min/max decks. Either the deck goes for full speed and quick kills (face decks and combo), or has total board control (zoo and tempo), or has pure value cards that bleeds out the opponent's hand (ramp and control).

The deck needs to be better than other decks in at least one category to win consistently.

I don't play enough to go legend, but I enjoy a few games here and there while taking a dump or eating food.

Also I never use hearthpwn or any website, they all suck compared to me or the legend players. I've been to legend twice, and the decks there are not posted anywhere online.

Getting to legend takes a lot of time, the only months I've been there was when I was depressed after my grandfather died, or when I was sick for almost two weeks and played the shit out of Hearthstone.

I might go crazy when the new expo comes out and play it a ton, I do love a good game binge on a new game though!

Zoo went from being nearly auto concede to "lol who plays this deck anymore."

If you run out of steam against Control Warrior, you need a huge Antonidas turn and pray he sticks on the board. He won't (he'll get killed with a 1-mana, 90-damage shield slam), but at least you tried. And you can be glad you weren't playing freeze mage, which needs the stars to align to beat CW.

I can't get anything going this season. I really like playing off-meta decks like Reno Hunter, Shadowform Priest, Raptor Rogue, etc. but the meta is so stale right now and I feel like everyone is using fully optimized decks so there's no room for experimentation. Plus, every secret paladin and aggro shaman makes me die a little.

Yeah I was being facetious, you either burn down CW before he can start stockpiling armor, or you need Antonidas to stick. Even three fireballs from Antonidas can be a drop in the bucket against CW between Shieldmaiden, Justicar, Shield Block, Bash, etc.

Casino mage is prone to dead starts against some decks, and you can run into situations where your flamewaker or arcane missiles are pinging their armorsmiths or acolytes. Tricky matchup, also tough if they start with a weapon and smash your mana wyrms or flamewakers.

I played Tempo Mage a lot a few seasons ago when CW were everywhere, and it was necessary to run Water Elementals to keep them from killing your important minions with DB and Win Axe.

This deck wins... and wins a lot. It's also very technically complicated to play. Lots of tricks in this deck, such as using Leeroy Jinkins to reduce Sea Giant's cost by 3, or power overwhelming to create a mega void terror. Also, always play as if they do not have any board clears in their hand... either they have the counter to your deck, or they don't. Just play to win if they happen to have enough board clears to win, then oh well just go to the next game. 65% win-rate.

The only meta-dependent variation is replacing a Imp-losion with a Dark Iron Dwarf. If the meta has tons of board clears, as this one does, then you'll want two imp-losions. But if there aren't a lot of board clears and utilizing board space is more important, replace one of them with a Dark Iron Dwarf, which is actually up there with piloted shredder value.

Fatigue Control Warrior:

   
   

I built this deck because I felt like regular control decks aren't as good without reno jackson. So this deck focuses on bleeding the opponent out while building up a massive armor reserve until the end game, where after all the cards have run out you're still holding onto a Reno Jackson.

This deck mulligans different than other decks; the goal is to always mulligan for the three duplicate cards so you can play Reno in a timely manner. The only duplicates are execute, shield slam, and armorsmith. Always mulligan for at least one of those. But if you happen to have shield bash, slam, or fiery war axe, you should keep 2 out of 3 of those cards (I would toss the shield bash in most cases).

Also, you can swap out the death's bite for that 7/1 axe (can't think of the name right now).

I forgot to mention you can also swap out the bloodmage thalnos for a mind control tech. Again meta dependent. Bloodmage is better at slaughtering zoo, whereas mind control tech is better against other control decks.

For deck building what do you recommend to a player who doesn't have some key cards? I'll probably be playing mostly Standard when it comes out and collect cards via Arena. I've got about 1,400 dust saved up and will have 1,600 by the time that Standard rolls out.

Would you suggest to see where the meta settles before investing dust in one or more cards? Or do you think I should just get a really strong classic card now that will still work in a new meta? I don't have Antonidas, Alexstraza, Malygos, Gromm, Leeroy Jenkins, Harrison Jones, Justicar, Shield Slam, Bloodmage Thalnos, etc. It's frustrating for a player who doesn't have some of these key cards still try to play the deck and basically get crushed. Those few key cards are what separates the good from bad decks unfortunately.

Do you have any of the expansions. I would build aggro shaman if you're super poor in the game. Easy to pilot face deck. Good for farming gold.

I wouldn't know where to start exactly right now. Back when I first started, Arena was really easy to farm. I figured out how to go infinite in arena after 3 months of playing. The best advice I can give for making gold is to always make sure you complete the quests.

I definitely recommend some cheap face/zoo decks. The zoo deck I posted is very cheap to make and is legend quality, just replace the leeroy jenkins with a second doomguard. For cards you don't have, just find the best replacement you can.

Again, if you don't have a particular card find the best aggressive card you can replace it with (such as a charge minion), and be sure to avoid ranked play until you have a complete deck. In regular Play mode, the algorithms supposedly match you against opponents with similar dust levels.

I just saw a user on the competitive hearthstone reddit refer to Control Shaman as the Bernie Sanders of decks--a fun concept, but ultimately unworkable.

What decks have you guys been playing since the new expansion came out? I've had a lot of fun with Reno Mage and Zoo--I'm not sure how a card like Darkshire Councilman got through playtesting, it's ridiculous.
