The alleged killer is the son of state Rep. Stephanie Maez, who took to Facebook to reaffirm her love for her jailed child.

“Being a mom is one of the hardest jobs anyone can take on. I love you, Donovan ... Always have, always will,” the Democrat junior wrote Sunday.

The shooting happened just outside of Maez’s district on June 26.

“I’m going to call this guy a savage because he called himself a savage,” Albuquerque Police spokesman Officer Simon Drobik told KRQE-TV. “They all decided to act like savages that night, get into a car and shoot up a house that they knew people were in.”

Donovan Maez is in custody at the Bernalillo County jail where he faces a handful of felony charges including assault, child abuse and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and murder.

He already faced a burglary and drug charge from a prior arrest, jail records show.

I thought this was interesting so I looked up the mother.



She's an activist and state representative. No husband. Looks pretty young to have an 18 year old son.

On an article that turned up when you google her name, it states she graduated high school in 1998, so that'd put her at what, 34 years old? With the aforementioned 18 year old son. Hmm.

Also of note from the googling: her last name used to be Maez-Gibson. A hyphenated last name... 'nuff said.

Bullshit. Just being a mom is easy. All you've gotta do is lay on your back to get that.

Being a GOOD mom is fucking hard though. It takes a hell of a lot of work and a level of emotional maturity that most gals just aren't willing to develop. Least of all your post-modern feminist types who have been told their whole lives that they're owed shit just for having a vagina. The best moms all have a very old school, traditional attitude where they actively invest their time in the family. They don't just do what's necessary. They're learning more about what's going on with the kids, have to study to stay ahead of the kid's learning(ideally they are good enough at it to homeschool), are proactively anticipating the family's needs and potential problems so that they can stop any disruptions before they happen, and know how to effectively manage risk so that the kids learn how to cope with problems on their own without getting seriously damaged in the process.

It's almost like being a good general manager. Anyone can do it, but you need a proactive mindset, high emotional intelligence(EQ), decent (not necessarily exception) IQ, and an amazing work ethic to truly excel.

From the little information available she seems like she has higher than average ambition, a very slightly above average IQ, and her looks. If she was a 4 she'd be gunning for that top spot in HR in a small-to-midsize company.
