El Mechanico - "Someone should start a New England thread"

Inspired by these brave words from a sage of this outstanding forum, I believe it's time we discuss this shitstick area of the US.

I would like to keep this thread light and fun and I hope to drop a somewhat extensive datasheet on my town pretty soon (located in Connecticut).

What are some of your observations, experiences, and general feelings about New England? It doesn't just have to be about women I'll start with some of mine:

- land of 49ers (similar to what the guys say about DC in this respect)
- everything is overpriced
- suburbia hell
- Massholes

My rundown -

Boston: Pretty cheap, and great logistics-wise since it's small. I keep a second apartment in the city and it's $1400 a month. I just AirBnb it out when I'm not there, which is 90% of the time. Students keep the rent down substantially compared to other cities.

There is pretty large amount of international students but they are all seemingly Asian 4-5's when you look around. Better Latin community in Allston/Brighton/Somerville, but there are a lot of FOB Dominincanas in Lawrence. More Latinas in East Boston, but make them come to you unless you fancy some pupusas. Some Brazilians too, mostly in Allston/Brighton. In Lowell there a ton of Cambodians but they tend to be short and fat with the occasional cutie. The white girls are pretty much what you'd get in DC but they do tend to be a bit more fun than the DC crowd. Daygaming in Copley Square or the surrounding streets is some of the best daygaming you can do in the whole country. Lots of European/S.A/Asian tourists roaming Newbury St. as we Americans have little interest in overpriced luxury goods.

Providence: The best city for Latinas in the area. A substantial Latin community, including thousands of Bolivians, Guatemalans, Salvadorenos, Mexicans, and Dominicans. They have their own festivals throughout the year, and these are great gaming opportunities. If you want to find FOB Dominincanas hit up Roxy for Sabados Latinos. When colleges are in session there are plenty of places to pull girls, but the quality is usually DC-like. Not a great Asian community to work with, but they are there. There is a big enough Chinese community (obviously), a growing Viet community, and some Cambodians and Thais as well. Rhode Island has very attractive women compared to the rest of the surrounding areas. There are a lot of sexy Italian girls and really little competition from the men. Kind of a mini Jersey girl place if that's your thing.

Block Island on weekends as well as Newport/Narragansett will make for excellent gaming if you are in shape. Definitely a more laid-back vibe than the Cape and Islands.

Connecticut: Skip it. NYC is better, as is Jersey. None of these cities will have anything like Providence has for foreign girls except Brazilians in Hartford area.

Vermont/NH/Maine: Social circle needed

Nice breakdown, man. Yea, I've found Boston pretty rough for gaming. It seems evenly split between uppity my-shit-doesn't-stink white girls and frumpy, nerdy Asian girls. I also just plain don't like the city either as it has zero energy (compared to NYC, for instance).

Good call on Providence. It's probably New England's last remaining stronghold of decent-looking women.

As for Connecticut, it's such a strange place. You have ghettos and you have filthy rich neighborhoods. There's really no in-between here and therefore options for running game are limited. Ratios are terrible. Land of 6's and 7's. Good place for MILF-hunting if that's your thing. West Hartford and Fairfield County in particular.

Boston strikes me as a whiter version of DC. The white women were basically carbon copies of DC white girls except with funnier accents and better attitudes. The cities are also close to the same size population wise and they have a lot of good universities and an educated, liberal populace. Boston is crazy about the Red Sox, and DC is crazy about the Redskins.

I grew up in CT. Lived in Maryland/DMV for a few years (out of the frying pan, into the fire) and now I'm back in CT.

Connecticut honestly does not have a lot going for it, but there are little pockets where you can find fun.

-West Hartford

-Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos

-New Haven (lots of colleges around here, including Yale)

-Stamford/Fairfield county.

There's some kind of beach place in Old Lyme with bars that I think is popular on weekends.

If you like Italian food, CT is top quality. Much of the population (myself included) are of Italian stock. You'll find tons of these little mom & pop places selling subs, pizzas, etc that are just incredible.

I may drop a New Haven data sheet at some point, since I am most familiar with that area.

Overall though, CT is not a great place. High taxes, high cost of living, cold weather, dull little suburban towns that all blur into each other, sarcastic and negative attitudes many people have (that might be unique to the New Haven area). There is a rather provincial mindset around here that I find somewhat annoying and difficult to relate to after living in other states and traveling abroad.

I moved back as a strategic move to stay with the family while saving money, paying off my student loans and getting my business of the ground. I intend to be gone by January 2017 and will not be moving back.

Only asking because I'm very familiar with the Boston rental market and $1400 doesn't really get you anything remotely nice anywhere in the city, especially BB, studio's at that price in BB usually are a shoebox with no kitchen or bathroom.

Have you owned it for a long time? That would make more sense.

Boston rents are almost on par with NYC and the way they have increased it's looking like within the next few years will be equal if not more expensive than NYC.

I've seen those prices for studios in back bay. They're rare but they pop up every now and then. I had a 1 bedroom in Brighton for $1500. Nice place, but I was living hand to mouth. Being able to save is a good thing.

I agree with Rhode Island having the best girls. There are a lot of italian and hispanic girls.

The most latinas are found in Providence and Woonsocket. Here in suburban MA I never see any. In Cape Cod there are lot of Brazilian girls but they are not particularly easy.

Boston is my favorite american city I've visited (compared to Chicago, San Diego, LA, Seattle, Portland, Houston, Austin, San Antonio). Still lots of cities I haven't visited. I liked the history in Boston, the ethnic neighborhoods, pedestrian friendly, universities, good public transport, and Fenway.

That's my only experience with New England. I have a friend who lived there for a long time and he doesn't have a lot of nice things to say about Bostonians, but as a visitor I found them more friendly and helpful than most city dwellers. My stepdad is from Providence and he loves the New England area, except for the politics.

I just consider these places to be filled with quality, particularly some of the resort towns in Vermont and NH like Stowe, but that you can't just show up alone and expect any kind of result. I've been in Boston the past few days and have been running foreign-student game with varied levels of success.

- Many of the Asian restaurants are stocked with Asian students working illegally for zero pay and tips. These girls, particularly the Thais, are open to foreign guys asking them out politely. This worked for me at Nud Pob restaurant at BU. You can also find these girls online, although they won't say answer you because they're getting harassed by hundreds of thirsty betas. All of the Thai restaurants are stocked with these kinds of girls that are here to take English classes from some overpriced ESL school. - The Allston bars are a shitshow, but if you want to bang an American 5 or 6, this is the place to go. Very few 7's when I was there on Friday night, but plenty of guys holding beers standing in circles being too scared to approach. TITS seems to be a fun place, although I am almost too old to pull from there.

- WeChat game is heating back up. I'm getting 50% prostitutes because I'm a bit picky with my Chinese girls (if they look too sexy, then they will be p2p), but if you lower your standards a bit then it will make life a lot easier. A lot of these girls are looking for the social validation, so if you're not in one of the good schools it would be wise to mention that you have a nice job or something to make them feel comfortable. I have a date for tonight lined up, and a girl coming over tomorrow for 'Cantonese lessons'. The girl tonight will probably lead to nothing since she keeps asking me about my job and I hate those girls.

- I had a Venezuelan off Tinder come over last night for what I assumed would be an easy first-date bang until I saw her. Her pictures really did a good job of concealing the fact that she weighed more than me, but I guess I should have known better seeing as she agreed to come over right away. There are a lot of hot Venezuelans here, and everywhere really. Typical Tinder though - never as hot as they are in their pictures. I basically just use it as a last resort these days and only for foreign girls because they are more fun. Had to fake drunk and kick her out so I could check out the bar scene.

- I don't think that overall the quality of the Latinas is as good as NYC or DC or even Providence, but they are here. Asians are all over the place, but they are mostly Chinese 4-6 and some Korean 4-6. There will be the occasional 7 thrown in. A lot of these girls are seen hand-holding with a beta white guy, particularly the 5's. I find the Thais the most approachable and most receptive to any kind of gaming.

- I haven't seen as many Europeans around as I would like, but I'm not really spending a lot of time on Tinder and they're usually on there. I had a good experience with a Dutch BC exchange student earlier this year from Tinder.

Outsiders don't understand this. It's the hunt, run and gun of poonsville.

In CT they can tell your accent town by town. They do not want you taking any girls from the circle even if she's in a break up crisis lolollol but..

IMO, the only place you should consider in New England as an outsider is Providence. Providence has a very wide ranging demographic... plenty of Asians, Latinos, college students, old school Italian families etc. Its has a reasonable cost of living (Nice 1 BR on the east side for $1500), is easily walkable, connected to Boston by train, near plenty of parks, beaches and other outdoor venues. There's many festivals, chowdah cookoffs and other primo day game activities.

CT is great for family life and making money. Boston is cool and can be done, but it is extremely cliquish, can be douchy and the girls aren't all that great. Burlington is great if you're under 25. Maine is awesome for weekend trips in the summer but I wouldn't want to move there. As someone else said, NH is extremely social circle orientated.

Boston is damn expensive. In terms of the cost of living compared to what it offers, I'll take NYC anyday. As a previous poster mentioned, Boston is almost on par with NYC in terms of rent and food costs. Except you don't get the near unlimited amount of food/bar/club venues to choose from. After living here for a few years, you'll realize that you don't get the bang for your buck as compared to NYC. It is cliqueish and the majority of women are shit.

Out-of-town college girls aside, Metro Boston has gentrified to the point where you have nothing but power-couple yuppies with alphabet-soup after their last names moving into gaudy McMansions and the dregs of society that still need to be there to serve donuts and clean bedpans at the retirement-homes. There's very little of the modest middle-class I used to know as a kid anymore. They're all gradually cashing out their properties and moving where it's cheaper.

The few hot women inbetween this yawning demographic chasm that I've come across are public school teachers, yoga teachers, spa workers, massage therapists, and lots and lots of nurses. If you have a nurse fetish, you can probably find a good one here.

I spent 13 years in Los Angeles before I moved back to the Boston area and the biggest difference I noticed is there are far far more blondes here. I don't know about other regions of the US, but Boston really is a very white, very blonde area. As the region gentrifies, the rich guys are marrying trophy wives which is injecting good genes, although there is a ton of obesity here as anywhere else. There's also always been a big Irish immigrant population. To this day there are a lot here with uncertain immigration status. Not as big of a problem as illegals who can't speak english as Los Angeles, of course.

The ugly single women are (naturally) doing engineering, biotech, or higher education in Cambridge/Somerville or they're lower-class single moms clustering on POF. Places to avoid are old mill towns like Lawrence. Worcester is really low class but it has a high Brazilian population if you're into that.

Crime tends to be very tightly focused in a small number of very well known no-go areas. Once you get out into the suburbs it's super safe. No homeless walking the streets. No violent crime (other than occasional domestic violence cases I suppose). Some of the best schools (albeit with a heavy left-wing social engineering agenda). It's just...very few mere-mortals can afford to live in the burbs unless they're old or the house is being passed onto the next generation (which is my situation). Rentals are sky high and hard to come by in the burbs. Crime in downtown Boston is surprisingly low as long as you don't venture into Roxbury or Dorchester. For the most part, it's a safe city and it's so small you can literally walk from landmark to landmark, but you don't have to because of the subways. Just don't drive in because parking is a nightmare.

All of this is very different from Los Angeles where crime diffuses out in all directions with the sprawl and apartments had bars on the windows.

There is no greater region in the world than New England. Not for game obviously but in terms of people, natural beauty, history, culture and education. The capital of New England, Boston, is one of the greatest cities in the world.

Its an excellent place to grow up, raise a family, study, work or start a business. It does have its drawbacks-weather, taxes and high cost of living in particular. But its such a fantastic region.

"Deepdiver" has made some excellent contributions to this fourm on Boston. Wish he would post more.
