Everyone think they are "alpha" now a days. Its corny, I'm seeing forced mannerisms and activity by so many chumps. Just remember every one has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. Nah sports shouldn't factor in.

A childhood buddy of mine never played sports but he was one of the toughest alphas I've ever met. He was a natural athlete and all the coaches drooled over him but he refused to join any sports because he always said he had better things to do. This guy was a gladiator or Spartan born in the wrong era or some shit because he was benching 260 his freshman year, no prior training, running high 5 minute miles, and knocking out 200+ lb senior football players in the parking lot.

He was from a broken home with an abusive alcoholic father so he was always taking care of his 2 younger siblings; working part time, walking them to school, making their meals, etc. Which I didn't find out till years later but he's always had my respect. So I didn't think competitive sports is a must but without a doubt, there is a correlation between alphas and sports.

Oh and personally wrestling gets my vote for alpha sport. Probably because I did it for four years but it's transitioned to Mma/shooto now. I don't do it competitively but as a hobby because I don't have enough time to dedicate to training since I'm always traveling. Then again I don't consider myself alpha anyway, hence the username.

I think all alphas have a certain edge to them that other men do not. The competition of sports can develop that better than anything other than combat.

There needs to be something to create, develop and sharpen the edge that the alphas have. Without that they won't be alpha.

Playing hockey for 15 years was easily the best thing my parents could have made me fall into. The camaraderie between yourself and those 19 other guys is so significant and I learned more from being a teammate, a motivator, and a leader than anything school ever taught me. I am not surprised that the guys that go on to be the leaders and real men in this world were once young boys that learned the "intangible" things in life through sport.

You learn the value of hard work and see the pay-offs in the wins, and how much harder you need to work in the losses. If your team is not a unit, you will fail. If you don't listen to your leaders (coaches and captains) and they don't lead by example, your team will never amount to greatness. You learn about the bullshit of politicking early in life (I learned at 14 years old), and see that its also necessary to play that game in the real world.

You also learn that on the field of battle, you are sworn enemies, and after the game you bury the hatchet and go have a beer; two specific instances I remember: I knew two guys (one on my team, one on a rival team) that were the best of friends, but as soon as we hit the ice, these guys would break each other's noses in fights, just no mercy. When I played over in Europe, we hated the Russian and Czech teams, but after the games, we'd go get beers and hit on girls with these guys, like we were the closest friends for years. I miss those days.

I think we all agree that sports are very important for developing and creating healthy masculinity. Sports and physical activity have been on a decline in America which is not good for building a nation of masculine men.

I agree, I think physical fitness is absolutely necessary to become alpha and playing team sports is a way of accomplish fitness and leadership. I think there is one type true Alpha male. I see game as 1/4 of the alpha male lifestyle. Therefore, PUA's has alpha activities but that alone doesn't make them alpha. Like the poster above said a football player would probably be getting pussy but he was also learning other ways of the alpha male lifestyle like getting respect by other guys, learning how to compete and push one-self to the limits.

That's why I disagree with most pick up coaches that believe being alpha is getting girls. I would say that its a byproduct of the alpha lifestyle. Imagine a tribe where the alpha males go to war: here they learn about friendship, loyalty and courage. After they come back from combat they would simply apply game and in 1-2 hours because of their high value would get the girl, bang her and move to the next one. The chode would probably be the friend that stays protecting the women. He is friendzoned because he never made a move. While an alpha male would not waste his time and simply fuck the girl fast.The alpha has other responsabilities in the tribe like fighting more wars, hunting and building a society. They can't waste their time dealing with the pettiness of women.

Alpha is a relative term nowadays, but if we are talking about game/sex, then yes, competitive sports is huge. If you ever play any D1 sports, then you're pretty much guaranteed to date a hot chick, and have options on the side.

You can also look at medical sales, they drool over division 1 athletes. Ultra-competitive, and aggressive make the best salesman according to them. I also find D1 athletes smart, and successful after they're done playing. Kinda ironic, because growing up we are taught that athletes are dumb. Bullshit.

As far as friendships, they also seem to be the head of the circle as well, but that could just be because other males already look up to them.

Note, I'm referring mostly to College athletes. HS doesn't make too much of a difference, it helps, but not the be and all. But once you become a D1 athlete, the world instantly shifts towards your side, just can't fuck it up.

Tell that to some of the professional traders I know. These guys are math and finance nerds, but they also play high stakes games (millions of dollars) all day, every day so they've honed an extremely sharp competitive edge.

Plus you'd love some of the stories the old timers have about how there used to be constant fights in the trading pits. It got so bad that a lot of companies hired bouncers to keep people in line.

I rowed for two years, and it's a bit of a mixed bag.

Many people tout rowing as a great way of getting jacked, when it certainly isn't. It does make you look more athletic, and improves your back and leg strength, but it rarely makes people look genuinely jacked. It fucks with school, partying, and social life. My rowing team did throw some pretty good parties, but it was difficult to party more than a few times a quarter when I had Saturday practice at 6 in the morning. My sleep schedule was a disaster, with me catching naps at bizarre hours, making it difficult to keep up with my school work. Also, I rarely had the free time to interact with my friends who weren't on the rowing team. This was fine my freshman year, when I had plenty of good friends on the team, but it sucked my sophomore year, when my friends all quit. Rowing also frequently attracts people who have poor social skills--lots of my teammates were really weird and introverted people. The lack of sleep and constant exhaustion means that rowers frequently act like assholes towards each other, and tons of petty, childish rivalries can develop between teammates.

The constant atmosphere of competition can completely unman you. The results of every workout on the erg machines are emailed to everyone on the team. If you had a shitty workout, everyone will see it, and everyone will wonder if you're actually a huge pussy. Your coach will put you in a shittier boat, and you'll have worse practices out on the water. This can drive people insane. It can be an incredibly stressful sport.

Also, female rowers are frequently hideous. There were a couple bangable girls on my squad, and maybe two or three hot ones, but the remainder were actual land beasts. This is different at schools that have D1 women's rowing teams, since those women are top-of-the-line athletes, but club women's programs are not attractive at all. The plus side is that all of them are extremely horny, so it is relatively easy to bang the few 6's and 7's on the team.

On the positive side, being a rower is a huge DHV for girls; they love how ripped it makes many guys, and definitely like the commitment and intensity that typify most rowers. Also, rowing builds such outstanding cardio that it makes you amazing at having sex; while I was on crew, I could plow women like a beast.

It gave me a great tolerance for discomfort and pain. When you're rowing, you're required to carry the boat to the dock. For us, this involved carrying the heavy-ass eight-man racing shells half a mile in the morning cold, wading through the muddy filth that surrounded the dock, then stepping around the piles of birdshit that covered the dock itself. The boat itself isn't that heavy--only two hundred and fifty pounds at most--but its sides are extremely jagged, and cut deep into your shoulder. Until you get used to the weight, carrying the boat can be incredibly painful. We'd be out on the water in 30-degree temperatures, freezing our asses off. The oar's motion scrapes the skin off your hands and gives you huge, stinging blisters. You'd cut your thumbs on the gunnel and have to deal with incessant bleeding for the rest of practice.

This is to say nothing of the workouts. It's hard to describe them to people who haven't rowed, but anyone who's spent more than a couple minutes on the rowing machine will know what I'm talking about. 2k and 6k tests on the rowing machine are some of the most painful experiences a person can endure; I'd rather re-break my arm than do another one of those, and we did six of each every year. People frequently puked or passed out, or cried after finishing them.

All in all, it was a shitty, unpleasant experience, but it definitely toughened me the fuck up. I ran cross country in high school and wrestled one summer, and neither of those even remotely compared to the intensity and rigor of rowing. There are no breaks in rowing, no stops, just continuous, agonizing, repetitive cardio. It also did improve my overall strength--I was deadlifting 275 before I started rowing, and maxed out at 375 after a year on the team while weighing 165 lbs. It was ultimately good for me, but I'm not sure if it's necessary for everyone to go through it. I was built pretty well for rowing, but if I could have done something like rugby or football, I probably would have tried those in hindsight.

From this thread, it is my thought that:

The hierarchy of man declares that there are Planners and Builders and Supporters. Each class has their own Alpha-Men accordant with the class's goals. Not all have high fuck counts, but they are alpha in their class... with lessers/betas beneath them.

Take these examples and see where they fall.

1) Grand Master Chess Player who has a wife but only two diff fucks in his life. The girl who pitied him in high-school and the woman who loved him for his science of destruction and competitiveness in college and beyond.

2) Big Boy Top Athlete who has 200 lays by the time he's twenty-two and was in a top fraternity at college that did not get sunk by "the secret police". He is a lawyer now at a top-class law firm and scheduling the day to jump either up to the board or get into politics. He has a good woman to stand with him.

3) Self Made Man out of the bayou who could do math and computers. He has 50 lays in his 35 years and has a few billion usd in stock. He has no wife, but three child support payments.... and he keeps up with them, while still getting out to have fun with his friends and score new women here and there... and classifies them afterwards according to AD&D character building rules.

4) Auto-Mechanic guy who knocked up his high-school sweetheart. Their kid is seventeen now. The kid always wanted to be an astronaut more than a sports star and is a good person once they got past the parental bs. The kid wants to go to a good college and be a doctor. The kid's dad is gonna foot the initial bill for it by working more hours.... with an "understanding" of what the cost entails.

5) Internet Dot-Com Man and Economic Freak who builds a/c systems and says he will explore the asteroid belt with robotic ships. Does not play video games. Has had three beautiful wives and currently has ten rambunctious and good looking kids, along with three alimony and ten child support payments, and a crazy visitation schedule all across the globe. But none of it seems to phase him.... in fact he seems to enjoy it while still doing what he enjoys doing best.... which is writing out crazy plans on the back of napkins.

To sum up: mankind has hierarchy and women follow mankind's hierarchy -- either explicitly or implicitly.

I've seen featherweight hipsters who probably couldn't bench a standard barbell with hotter women than collegiate D1 former football/basketball/baseball players, or guys who were in a specialized branch of the army that would be considered classically alpha on paper.

A certain realm is alpha is correlated to pure athleticism, but it doesn't really translate to much else.

I think you could narrow the scope by saying: Regimented physical activity, be it alone or team orientated, is a significant factor in whether someone is considered alpha. Another factor could be tragic, life-changing, or near death experiences.

I don't know the answer to the question.

I do know my "son" will be playing a competitive sport which is physical.

I may not be a fan or rugby, but I cannot help but watch the World Cup going on right now and have admiration. It is a physical sport, which separates the men from the boys.

Ice Hockey is also a great sport, I don't like the idea of losing teeth.

American Football is also a great sport and very dangerous, like Rugby.

I have played soccer at a high level, it gave me a lot of confidence in life.

When the movie about this guy came out, it inspired me to watch the original documentary, Man on Wire. Philippe Petit walked across a tightrope between the Twin Towers, and is there anyone really who thinks Petit's not an alpha because he didn't play rec league soccer when he was growing up?

Get out of here. There's more than one way to be an alpha, and competitive sports doesn't magically make you one. There's an active thread about basketball simps.

But back to Petit. He was a French street performer, who juggled and had a high-wire act. Basically, he was a clown, but he was devoted to it. He practiced constantly, with his followers and girl around him constantly to support.



Then he aimed big by setting up a wire on the Notre Dame Cathedral and crossing it. His next one was crossing a wire over a bridge on the Sydney Harbor. Finally, he set his sights on his biggest inspiration, the World Trade Center.

This one would require the planning of a heist to pull off. He organized a group of men to help him rig his wire. They acquired fake badges to infiltrate the Towers at night, so they could bring in their equipment. They snuck past the guards and set up the wire on the roof at night. In the morning, he crossed eight times to a shocked crowd gathered below. The police arrested him for trespassing, but the media took notice.



When he was released from his booking, a new-found female fan took him to bed.

^^^ Petit was and is alpha - no fear at all of heights or the wire - a fear-less Alpha for sure and he is still alive giving interviews in NYC to help promote the movie he consulted on - still Alpha at 60! Good on him.

Disciplined Teamwork and often extreme focused athletic physical action is the hallmark of most branches of US Military combat units.

When someone else is trying to terminate you it focuses the mind like no boyhood sports can.

That said we had organized military sports leagues - hardball, basketball, full contact flag football no pads and even tennis and sailing competitions... non of that feminine coed intramural softball crap.

So point is sports are great to build stamina and teamwork and for morale and bragging rights - yet all sports through out history were intended to train boys and young men to prepare for the real thing - combat to defend their nation, tribes and families.

LOL Boys play sports - men take up arms and defend their countries!

Spot on, I was good at most sports, Captain of my Soccer team, played on our Aussie Rules footy team after Soccer if we played the same venue, played A-grade Squash, competition Golf and Surfing etc, I was just naturally good at sport
Only Footy was a full contact sport but I loved playing British Bulldogs and given my smaller size then, it was only my aggression to win that had me one of the hardest to stop. I was never taught how to box but loved to have a good fuckin scrap too
I wasn’t considered an Alpha male though, I remember true Alphas at my School, they were charismatic, aloof and had the chicks they wanted, I couldn’t

Testosterone makes us different from women, we take risks and are fearless because we are/were inebriated in Testosterone but that alone doesn’t make us Alpha males it makes us fearless competitive males

Deadlifts may hurt, but they don't hurt nearly as much as a 2k. There were also some beautiful moments out on the water. I saw some pretty gorgeous sunrises, and when everyone in your boat moves in sync, you feel like you're flying.

And while there were a lot of butthurt assholes on my crew, there were also some guys who were carved out of steel, real role models. My novice coach was one of the most badass individuals I've ever encountered; he could deadlift five hundred pounds, a row a mile in under five minutes, and had legs the size of my torso. While I don't keep in touch with a lot of my former teammates, we were all very close when we first started rowing. And racing can be a huge adrenaline rush, if extremely painful.

It's definitely a sport worth trying, but it's also incredibly easy to burn out on it. It takes a serious passion for the sport to continue doing it for more than a couple years.

If you are looking at the Alpha male as the highest member of the dominance hierarchy, there is only one. The idea of the Olympics was designed to provide the warriors with an alternative and diversion from constantly doing battle with one another and potentially claiming that singular position or from thinning the population to such a degree that the tribe/pack/herd would not survive. With a more modern and civilized society, the Alpha male would place the wreath upon the head of the champion who was a noted warrior. This warrior would have most likely challenge the giver of the wreath. This champion would have his day in the sun while showing allegiance to another.

This is the basis for all modern sport. It is a directed manifestation of those in power in order to channel male aggression. Afterwards, these contested games were transformed as a vehicle for war preparation. Sometimes the alpha is the one designing the system so that men will exchange their bodies for land (or the resources on the land) for the use of another. He may be called the king, emperor, or some modern day politician. It also manifests with the female as he who is the main source for the population.

In answering the question, yes it is possible to be the alpha without sports, but that alpha will have lots of testosterone and will channel their aggression in a dominating manner.
