You have two options as an older guy or grad student.

Live in downtown where the bars are a 15 minute drive away and end up losing out on about 70% of leads you meet in and around campus because you are outside the bubble and instead focus on bar girls, tourists, Couch Surfing chicks. You can also game on SBCC's campus which is very good quality a few blocks from downtown.

Or you can live in IV a few blocks from campus which helps a ton with pulling chicks you meet day game or in clubs because you are in the bubble. If you live in IV you have a choice of 2 bars that are tiny, but several cafes for ice cream/coffee walk dates, and pizza places that serve pitchers of beer.

Know how to skateboard and surf, get a little both these are great things to teach girls around. UCSB must have the most skateboard commuters on the planet.

UCSB in my experience of having spent a large amount of time on different major university and community college campuses has to be the best day game campus in the United States.

Why?

Weather, every day is sunny and not too hot. The campus is very large and spread out, many long walk ways back to IV to catch girls. Girls are in the bubble here, they don't have guys older than college age really hitting on them. They aren't leaving or going anywhere too far often on the weekends. They stay local and often have 3 roommates in the same bedroom. If you have your own 1BR it is an oasis for them. Much like a guy has his own nice bedroom in a frat or big party house everyone knows.

This makes 21 and 22 year upperclassmen easier because you competition to get them is guys their age or older usually which isn't many when you cut out half the college male population there. There are no other older guys going after these chicks. Most grad student males are in hard sciences and are dorks.

The quality is great and I went to 2 universities that were considered party/hot chick schools before living in the area. UCSB tops them both. There is just an outrageous amount of solid 7's with great tight little bodies, long hair, and pleasant style. It isn't nearly as diverse as other California schools, but for guys coming from many other parts of the country or world for that matter it is still pretty diverse.

You think UCSB is white go to Utah or Colorado, makes the school look like the United fucking Nations in comparison.

When I first moved to the area a few years ago I thought the undergrad male competition was weaker. It seems like it got better recently. I see more guys than ever that wear tack tops, work out, tanned, good hair cuts and so on.

You go live near State St. you have lots of guys 25-35 with $, family $, good looks etc... to compete with and the average local girl downtown from age 22-29 has a lot of high quality dick thrown at her.

Santa Barbara definitely is a great place as far as the US is concern regarding women. However the hottest girls in California aren't at UCSB. They're in the big cities doing modeling or media. Like Travesty said, there's a good amount of 7s but 8s are still very much rare. So if you're looking for young 6-7.5s then Santa Barbara is a good place to look at.

For an older guy, it's gonna be a battle relative to your younger parts because college campuses are very social circle oriented and the overall competition is not in your favor. It's not impossible but you're gonna have to put in some serious work for less. If you're looking to rack up in numbers, it's best to go to a big city but only if you already have tight game and play your cards right. In a big city, there's just more women to interact. Also in a college setting, it would be difficult due to people knowing everybody, so you're not going to rack up numbers.
