RE: The 2015 Canadian Federal Election Thread
My riding is NDP to the core. The Liberals and Green party are almost on par. The Cons are about double the Libs and Greens, but nowhere near the NDP. If my electoral district gets split up like it should, it would be a different story. Half my riding is small business and half is aging boomers sitting on $billions of real estate.

Its also traditionally Latin, with a large percentage of second generation Chinese. The Chinese go for the vote where it helps business, and their MLA's are tireless always out walking around, talking to business owners and being an excellent presence in the neighborhoods.

I used to vote Liberal under Chretien. Then reluctantly went over to Harper, and while he has not completely won me over I do give him a lot more credit than most people here. Its odd, even the most level headed men I know get all up yelling Fuck Harper. When questioned, they have no real reason it seems. Mumble something about lakes and rivers, C-51 or something.

Politics does not seem to effect me much either way, but I am a patriot and like nothing more than to see a strong, balanced Canada. I will admit a lot of what I am seeing lately, from the now all out attack of the CBC against anything not aligned with the left, to entitled and spoiled citizens making a huge fuss over nothing. Perhaps an economic retardation after an NDP win and then a long 15 year recovery a la BC is not the worst thing to happen.

Will Harper get back in?

I want him out but I don't expect much from Trudeau.

RE: The 2015 Canadian Federal Election Thread
I don't know who's going to win but I do think it's going to be a minority government and for the country at this point, it might be a blessing in disguise. Either Harper comes back with a weak mandate but has to work with the NDP/Libs or Trudeau/Mulcair become the PM on probation.

The economy is fragile but truth be told none of these guys inspire economic confidence in my eyes. I still don't know who I am going to vote for or if I am going to vote at all. I voted for Harper in the last federal election but this time I am not buying what he's selling. I am seeing a lot of similarities between him and Martin in 06:

Arrogant leader
Corruption scandals
Buoyed opposition

And this time around there's more of an uncertainty/unease about the future in Canada and much of the world.

RE: The 2015 Canadian Federal Election Thread
I saw some portions of the debate.

Harper used the same federal statistics as usual to "prove" he helped the economy. He had the presence and personality of tapioca pudding. I detest Bill C-51 but the only party that will attempt to revoke it (good luck in the likely minority government we will get again) is the NDP. The Conservatives are the only party that have a platform somewhat based in reality. They want to expand government the least and are the only party that doesn't seem to want to perform a jihad against small businesses. Their fiscal performance is the closest we will get to a surplus and they are the only party that aren't against firearms owners.

Mulcair resorted to populism and stayed staunchly to the "center-left". He failed to define his carbon tax scheme and provide numbers. He sounds moderate now but the "Leap Manifesto" is endorsed by an alarming amount of NDP party members and is essentially pushing for climate communism. (National Post Editorial) I get the feeling this is a conjob similar to the first Obama presidential campaign. Most NDP party members are outright socialists who want to vastly expand government spending and have no awareness of how the economy actually functions. Judging by how much pandering Mulclair is doing on the campaign I get the feeling he is completely full of shit in regards to what he would actually do once elected given he has spent the majority of his career as a bureaucrat in Quebec.

Trudeau had no idea what he was doing and resorted to constant interruptions. He looked liked a freshman who took political science and thinks he can change the world with SJW logic. The legalization push is going to result in cannabis being taxed and restricted to big business. The liquor control boards you see in provinces would probably end up controlling the industry. The Liberal party's extreme leftism will destroy small businesses in Canada. If you see what the Liberals have done in Ontario over the past 12 years you will see that they are insane and a Liberal federal government would be horrible for the country at this point.

Honestly all the candidates are crap. Given that Trudeau and Mulcair are so left leaning I feel pigeon holed into voting conservative again.

The Conservatives are the duck with a crippled wing in a flock of lobotomized ducks. It is a shame that Canadian Politics is quickly becoming similar to the dichotomy that exists south of the border.

I have the option of voting in my home riding or where I'm going to school but both are Liberal safe seats. Essentially, my vote does not matter Angry

I'm in the same boat. And lineups at the advance polls are an hour, hour-and-a-half long by some reports. Why would I waste my time to cast a vote that doesn't make a difference ?

Forget about the fact that Harper is dishonest and machiavellian; Mulcair was just quoted on marijuana, "of course we are on a track to full legalization." The NDP would have my vote if I still lived in Canada!

I like that this site has a fairly big tent of political beliefs. But how does one vote for the NDP and a become member of this forum? It's kind of mind boggling.

I mean sure, the conservatives are basically liberals only 10 years behind.

But the NDP (and likeminded parties, like Liberals) actively promote and spread all the policies/laws that the whole neomasculinity movement is against.

No offense, but what the hell are you doing here?

Unless your a one issue voter such as, I like the NDPs innate hatred of Corporations. But that's were my interest ends.

I voted NDP, they have the best foreign policy, kind of what Canadian foreign policy used to be not too long ago. C-51 is also a deal-breaker. Harper's pandering to Israel is totally appalling. The niqab thing is also basically populist fearmonging for uneducated rednecks in the West but also in ON burbs and rural/boomer Quebecers.

Trudeau is such a lightweight he's almost cringeworthy, but Harper is a downright manipulative bastard. It's like voting for Hilary over GWB, lesser evil. Trudeau's ads are so bad, the Libs are clueless, they are only emerging because Harper is even worse.

I also like the fact that Mulcair is against the TPP, which will lead to further de-industrialization and economic losses. I didn't like the Libs being evasive on C-51.

Uncledick, the fact is most social issues are under the jurisdiction of the Province, I would never vote for someone like Wynne.

All I know is that the incorporation of the company I've founded will be overseas and I plan to pay as little to this federal government as possible. It appears it is going to be Trudeau that wins if the polls are correct.

The NDP are notorious for their progressive social policies in the provincial sphere. I've been living under one for awhile.

Again I can't understand how one could vote for the NDP and be a member on this forum (that is not a troll) and believe in even the soft first steps into a "redpill" lifestyle/belief system.

If the NDP was in power across the board, then the progressive Brave New World would be upon us in ten years.

I could be missing something though, are you one of those doomsday types that want to rush the peak societal freak show in the hopes of a collapse and restructuring? I'll get that, but not a typical NDP voter on a forum like this.

At a NDP gathering, you'd be the first they'd crucify. (To be fair Tories would do the same, but with less glee in their eyes, probably less sadistically as well and even believe some of our neomasculine ideas at that)

If anyone hasn't noticed, the culture was was long over in Canada (Gays have been able to adopt and marry for decades without anyone notable protesting). The parties are judged on their economic performance. Harper would have been able to get away with his war on statistics bureau and other transgressions if at least the economy was booming overall but unfortunately it stagnated, even if it hasn't been his fault.

Anyone buying marijuana stocks on the Venture in anticipation of a Liberal victory?

Looking like a CPC minority, something that would not have the confidence of the NDP&Libs.

RE: The 2015 Canadian Federal Election Thread
Muclair had to scrub th NDP format to make it palatable to Canadians on a broad scale. I have actually found him the most grouded this campaign in all honesty. In my ideal world it would be a NDP minority. Sacking the NDP ensures a Liberal minority with a CPC cockblock as opposition.

Liberals have no credibility as many voted for shit like C-51, and Trudeau has been doing is pandering dollers around. Each week of the campaign all he did was panser for how much money he will spend with no basis on how those funds will come about.

I view Trudeau as a more charismatic and faggy Harper without the religious ties. Canadians won't see much change aside from money being shifted from super-prisons and Jets to folly shit like dumping more money into crooked band leaders pockets and women pay days in increased child benefits. Ontario Liberals have been a mess and I wonder how much gets uplaoded from thier file up to the national level.

Simply because they consider that a lesser evil. It's false that if you vote for a party, it's because you agree with their policies. You might just feel particularly strongly about one policy. This is why I think that if you're going to have democracy, at least make it Proportional Vote, so people can choose very specific parties that suit them, or have more direct democracy.

I think the primary reason some members of the forum still have a 'foot in the left' is because of class reasons. They see voting for the left party worth the severe social collateral damage, because the idea of doing down the rich and helping the poor (especially when it might directly affect their wallet) is so appealing to them. I just wish people would see that the rich have absolutely never been dispossessed because of an electoral vote (they vote every day with their lobbyists), and that the long-term effects of 'help the poor/working-man' laws are the opposite of any immediate short-term personal benefit. If we could do that we could stop using silly terms like 'SJW', 'cultural marxist' and bunches of slash-characters, instead of the plain term 'leftist'.

Yeah I agree about the average NDP voter carrying a lot of misgivings and having a mindset shaped by social engineering, but there is a lot of that too with Conservatives, to which you might be blind because all you see is that liberal archetype as being 100% of the problem. A lot of Harper's cabinet and inner circle are closeted homos, his wife had a tryst with a RCMP female officer with whom she moved for a while, and even Harper himself might have had a relationship with his boy Novak, and that's just for starts...

Voter suppression fraud, C-51/police state, TPP secret clauses/de-industrialization/offshoring of the Canadian industry, neocons like Frum, Levant or the Aspers in charge of foreign policy: those are just some of the reasons real red pillers would want to get rid of Harper.

Saw a commercial on French (i.e. Quebec) TV this morning that started out like this: "President Obama himself said that the greatest problem we face today is climate change...". It went on to say that the NDP would only need 35 seats to dislodge Harper, as opposed to over 100 for the Liberals. Basically, NDP preaching-to-the-converted, get-out-the-vote message.

It made me laugh. President Obama himself!! Oh, well then; it must be true...!

It's kind of a farce. The conservatives had a majority and managed to to piss it away and do nothing. There is no vision for the country except stay in power.

The liberals just want on the taxpayer gravy train again and the NDP are whitewashed radicals and the Greens are just crazy.

It's really just a matter of voting for the lesser of many evils.

Here's something that you guys might find interesting, similar to Political Compass, you choose answers to policy questions and it computes different percentages in terms of how you align with the various parties. Click the bottom link in each category to "show ___ more questions" which will make the results more accurate:

http://canada.isidewith.com/

While these sites can have their failings of course, voters would be better served by examining their beliefs on a case by case basis compared to the typical "outrage of the moment" that dominates the media.

For the record, I ended up matching closest with the Libertarian Party.

So, one day left until Election Night.

I'm bucking the current trend and predicting that Harper will end up with the most seats on Election Night. Conservatives generally over-perform their poll results since their supporters are the ones most likely to vote. That being said, at most I think that he'll have a slim plurality of the seats, likely leading to a defeat when Parliament reconvenes and the eventual installation of Trudeau as Prime Minister.

What predictions do you guys have for tomorrow night?
