Ask them if they approve of Harley being beaten up by the Joker - then still calling him "Puddin'" and professing her love. Or the rough sex. Or the fact that he'd kill her son if he knew it existed.

I think it's because Harley, being crazy, manages to be both a villain and victim. She sometimes exercises power but also gets abused - playing into both halves of the feminist ideal.

She i the quintessential personification of the Millennial female ideal. She's snarky, rude, colloquial, beats up tough guys, you go grrrrl, and is submissive but at the same time empowered and given purpose by a psychopathic and completely self-absorbed man.

She is a cartoon character. I'm pretty sure we don't exemplify Batman as the ideal man taking on the bad guys of the world.

Her character is subject to the whims of male writers for the most part. At least they haven't got a transgendered love story going on and I am pretty sure she is based on someone real in some way as most make believe characters are.
