In a sane and just world, Mr. Palmer would face poaching charges in Zimbabwe and rot in a god forsaken prison.
My only hope is that with all the attention, there is finally some action to tackle poaching issues Africa is facing.
In a sane world that country wouldn't even be called Zimbabwe, its people wouldn't be living in abject poverty, and the thieving murderous communist piece of shit Mugabe would've been hanged years ago.
Sanity took the last train out of Dodge a while ago.
Curious as to why you would make this statement?
I'm curious why you'd hone in on that. So do you oppose the death penalty for murderous tyrants or are you just ignorant of his crimes?

I think it's fair to say that Mugabe turned the "breadbasket of africa" into a typical third world shit hole.
He's not a communist...just a typical African Big Man Tyrant.
I tend to take these people at their word when they say what they are, but whether he's sincere or not doesn't really matter because the real world results of his governance are typical of Marxist-Leninist governments throughout history. Starvation, poverty, murderous rich elite, etc.
Quote:Officially, ZANU–PF is socialist in ideology and modelled on Leninist parties in other countries. The party maintains a politburo and a Central Committee.[4][5] African nationalism and anti-imperialism in the form of opposition to Western domination of the world are other key elements in the party's ideology.
In any case, we're getting a bit off topic. My fault there.

Rhino horn has pretty much no active chemical properties (it's dead compacted hair), and certainly not the properties claimed for it in Chinese medicine. Apparently these include "cooling the blood" i.e, reduce fevers and inflammation, but nowadays rich Vietnamese use it as some sort of weird party drug and also as a supposed cure for serious diseases like cancer. But it's all rubbish. Talk about preening and signaling. Those using horn for medicinal purposes are merely signaling that they are super rich. This is the most stupid reason ever to justify the near extinction of a species and the death of many people on both "sides" involved in the trade.
Perfectly stated, man. Words can't even describe the rage I feel at people who kill elephants and rhinos for their tusks/horns for supposed medicinal reasons that have no basis in reality. These animals are facing extinction so some rich fuck can brag that he's wealthy enough to afford to buy rhino horn. The only way we can imagine the absurdity of this is to ask what if this happened to us. What if some extraterrestrials came down and started killing humans one by one and extracting our hair and nails because they erroneously believed that they were medical cures or aphrodisiacs. And the entire planet was nearly decimated of humans because they were hunting us down left and right just to pull out our toenails and sell them on their home world for "medicine" that didn't even work in the first place. Or even worse, imagine they just came down and shot at us for thrills and made "human hunting" a sport. Then chopped our heads off, stuffed it and hung it in their homes as a prize to brag to their friends. I think only if we imagined this shit happening to us do we begin to realize how evil it is.
It's amazing that with all the advances China has made in the last few decades, they're still using horns, brains, hides, and bizarre parts of exotic animals to get their dicks hard. Good lord, you'd think with the numerous factories there are in China they'd put a few ones churning out Viagra or Cialis.

People don't understand the conservation aspect of hunting. This is the guy who paid $350k to go shoot the black rhino for conservation purposes.
I grew up hunting, and it's a really interesting podcast. I basically listened to the entire thing in one sitting.
One thing this Casey Knowlton talks about is how people try to judge intentions and how that's bull-shit. You can't judge intentions, because you never really know a person's intentions. You can only judge if killing the animal was good or bad. It's still a judgment call sometimes, but at least you aren't mixing in the presumed thoughts of another person.
He was accused of killing the rhino out of blood-thirst.
Hunters =/= poachers. That's the bottom line. The guy who killed that lion was poaching.
That was a very good show thx for posting it - learned a lot.
It's just a real shame that these SJW & "animal rights activists" types who have zero understanding of the actual situation and how it works get all worked up over this and act out in an irrational manner (and even threaten the lives of his children and family).
If someone can't understand the simple logic that humans have been hunting since the dawn of our existence and culling certain animals is necessary, then they are beyond help. For Chrissake this guy is probably doing more to help these species exist, but some idiot on Facebook or Twitter sees some clickbait entitled "Hunter pay $350K to kill black Rhino" and the next thing you know he's getting attacked by these crazies from all angles.
Anyway, the hunter really explained it well and showed how even though he's killing animals he's a conservationist, and, realistically, without licensed and regulated hunting many of these endangered species would have already gone extinct.

The human is a sentient being and a member of my species. The Eagle is a bird. I like the Eagle, but I cannot understand how it is that one can justify privileging the life of the unborn Eagle over that of their unborn fellow man.
The fact that our society has no problem making such a justification just illustrates more clearly to me the lack of value human life really maintains here. The fact that their selective outrage simultaneously supports the privileging of animal life over that of their fellow man says a lot.
It's not "privileging the life of the unborn Eagle over that of their unborn fellow man".
The bald eagle is the symbol of the United States of America - thus it will legally protected from predation by humans.

Just to clear up a misconception. In Chinese medicine rhino horn isn't believed to have aphrodisiac properties. Some of the other parts mentioned are believed to, but not anything from a Rhino. Rhino is believed to help with fevers and inflammation. Of course it's all nonsense. There is no evidence at all that it has any effect, other than placebo perhaps.
The current situation with Rhino horn should be a major source of shame for China and the Chinese, since it was some Chinese man several 100 years ago who stated that it has whatever properties they mistakenly believe it possesses. And this has been incorporated into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). But, again, it's all bollocks.
But it is really the Vietnamese who are driving the trade right now, including cooperation by elements in the Vietnamese state, like diplomatic officials. China sometimes executes dealers of illegal animal parts so it's riskier to move them into China.
Some private owners of Rhino here have started to use a process of impregnating their Rhino's horns with some sort of poisonous anti-tick agent. It doesn't affect the Rhino. No blood vessels to distribute the poison to other parts. But if consumed by humans it would make them violently ill. Maybe death in high doses. Let's see what happens.

But the difference is humans aren't an endangered species. We've gone from 1 billion to 7 billion in just over 100 years and still growing. If there were 7 billion bald eagles you wouldn't hear things like that. There are more chickens on the planet than humans. Nobody cares about destroying their eggs, because chickens aren't under threat of extinction. That's the difference. If there was just a handful of humans on the planet and falling, I'm sure abortion would be banned.
Perhaps my viewpoint is irrational, but I for one cannot really understand the logic behind calculations like this. I don't know if it's a matter of not valuing human life more than an eagle. I think it's a matter of consequences if you were to ban the practice of abortion. For one thing, it would mean a lot more guys in this forum wouldn't be living the lifestyle they are since birth control methods have failure rates. A lot of you would be on the hook for the next 18 years thanks to some slut you ONSed at the bar last weekend.
It would also mean a lot more poverty due to women having kids they can't afford. These kids would then become a burden on the welfare system and you'd probably see an increase in crime. One of the theories as to why crime began falling the mid 90s was due to the effects of abortion.
It's also a form of population control. Humans have grown at a Malthusian clip in the last century even with abortion. Banning it would mean an even greater population bubble.

No opinion on they fallout though. Pure karma I guess. If this dentist wanted to appear masculine in social media he should pick up a hot piece on the town and get a photo of her hanging around his neck. But if you don't have game I guess forking out $$$ is easier.
Hunting is far more masculine than picking up some floozy. Lots of very femenine men do well with girls, not many feminine men survive in harsh climates, push themselves or do anything of much value.
This guy is a successful professional, family man and a hunter. Give respect where it;s due.

Some of you are saying, real hunting is when the animal can kill you back.
So hunting a deer or really any herbivore..must also be beta?
I'm confused why there is so much flag in the dude.
Y'all know you would hunt a lion too if you had the chance.

Deer populations in the US are often out of control and massively overpopulated, while lion populations aren't. Deer also don't promote tourism like lions do. There's an acute difference in the impact that the two acts might pose.
Anyway, to me the question is very simple: if what he did was legal, then people's objections should be directed towards the authorities. If it wasn't legal, then he's a poacher and should answer for it in a court of law (pleading ignorance isn't a defense, either). Hunting is a perfectly acceptable pursuit; poaching is an intolerable crime. Whatever happens, it should be dealt with in the proper way, not in front of the guy's house with a bunch of childish protests.
