Like the dumb bitch knew her husband wanted to kill people, so she let him baby sit whilst she went out for a while, came back, kids were dead. Not exactly. Rosie Batty made a poor fucking choice in picking a bloke to first fuck and then actually have a kid with. She met her husband in 1992, they had a short relationship which lasted 2 years, and during which he beat her. She then had another relationship with him in 2001, didn't use protection, and their son, Luke Batty, was the result. She ended the relationship in 2002, but kept seeing him on and off from 2004 through to 2014. and even through continued bashings and reports to police.

Her ex eventually started threatening his son with a knife, at which point Batty decided to stop contact with him. The husband then got to their son at a sporting oval. He beat the kid to death with a cricket bat in broad daylight. The boy was 11 years old.

What they generally don't tell you was that her husband was mentally ill, but undiagnosed and deeply distrustful of doctors. It's not something she likes to admit a lot, though. Rosie Batty isn't campaigning on men's mental health, though, which is widely recognised as badly underfunded. She campaigns exclusively on domestic violence and got her AOTY award for that. Bear in mind domestic violence already has any number of shelters and independent funding in Australia. While domestic violence probably does take place, this woman campaigning on it and then getting an award for it is sort of like FDR announcing Pearl Harbour had occurred and that he was declaring war on aviation. It is a dreadful misidentification of the problem in her case.

I just can't get involved in sport unless I'm doing it. It feels as meaningless these days as playing video games. Not hating on either, but as I get older I have to really question the value I receive from any investment in my time & act accordingly to my desires for myself & this existential experience.

Sure. I can understand that. I'm a tradie (so it's discussed ad nauseum at work) & live with another & he's got the footy on every night (its on 5 night s out of 7 over here). All the blokes nearby come round to watch at our place (mostly to get away from their wives). As I said, it can be a great thing to bond with other blokes & I do enjoy watching an evenly matched game. Cricket is something I can't watch on my own, but if I'm over at my brothers & he can explain the finer points of the game to me as he understands it, I can certainly appreciate the appeal.

When it becomes a lifestyle thing & you start talking about "my team" etc is when it is starting to be more of a hinderance than a help. Each to their own however.
