I've wondered why it is that late teens are so arrogant. The conclusion I've come to is that it is actually highly beneficial in their development. Firstly, it breaks them away from their parents advice (which is often garbage), and initiates personal independence. And secondly, when you say bullshit to people in an arrogant manner, they tend to retort in the most thorough and forcefull way possible - all of which enters the teenager's mind and stews, even if they appear to be dismissing it.
