As everyone here already knows, the US isn't exactly the best place for a single male. This isn't a left/right thing, but it will probably only become more commonplace.

One thing I have noticed on Tinder (or any dating site/app these days) are profiles listed 18+, but sending messages opening up with "Hey I'm only 17 is that ok"?

Of course the best thing to do is not reply, but you almost want to tell the people behind it that it's simply not funny. What I mean by legal stings, is that these women are made to look of age, claim to be, but then it's said they are not once they message you. They're essentially preying on normal men.

This probably doesn't happen with gays (or not to same level), since they must be catered to these days, everyone already knows that as well.

Online dating eventually may not even be worth it in the west.

It's times like these that I wish G were back. He'd be having a field day just with the "Tinder" and the "U.S. isn't exactly the best place for a single male" parts. O.P., the simple answer to your question is A) Yes, expect there to be more and more stings and B) Find out what the age of consent is in the states where you will be looking for girls, then don't even think about banging underage girls. If you want to legally bang 16 year olds, go to New Jersey. If you are looking for girls under 16, go turn yourself in to the local police station. Side question: What country is the best place for a single guy? Colombia? The Phillipines? I'm not being critical or judgmental. I'm just asking.

The sheriff's dept here has a whole division trolling people online and then arresting them. Where they are trolling? I am not sure. They collar about a dozen a month looking to hook up with under agers.

That equates to entrapment and is highly illegal - any officer who is a part of those rings should either be put in jail, or at least shot and raped a few times

I had a brief conversation with a Vancouver based police officer at a beach today and the topic of marijuana came up and how the cops in the city don't charge people for smoking it in public or even dealing it in small amounts. The cop told me about North American police conferences that he often attends and how many retired American cops have admitted to him that they regret having ruined young people's lives over a bag of weed. I see this in the same way, a horny dude of whatever age could get carried away while on a swipe right spree and suddenly a cute seventeen year old wants to fuck, so the guy hops in his car without much thought (other than how seemingly easy and fast this is happening) and drives to a nearby hotel to get his dick sucked or whatever. Next thing he knows, the fucker is cuffed and his life is changed forever, labeled as a sex offender, probably thrown in jail and his fucking life is ruined. I don't really see how this benefits society and think that police resources could be better spent elsewhere, like hunting down the twisted fucks who produce child porn, or the thousands of other more pressing issues other than the one described in the OP.

All to do with crime figures and conviction rates Scotian. How else would the politicians claim to be doing a "good job" at cleaning the country up? If the majority of criminals are locked up then there needs to be a supply to keep the rates up.

Using entrapment or creating more laws will always trap people.

Will "legal stings" become a big thing?

Yes. It is an easy way to get lots of arrest and justify increased spending on our police state, prison industrial complex, and monitoring of citizens for normal sexual behavior.

To be honest the only men who should be targeted are men who are into prepubescent girls without female secondary sex characteristics. It is the female secondary sex characteristics that we men all rave about-Breasts, hips, tits, fat in a female distribution, cues of ovulation. A man attracted to a hot 16 or 17 year old is not a problem to me, a man attracted to a 9 or 10 year old child needs therapy to address his underlying pathological sexual attraction and ensure he does not act on it.
