Good travel videos
Reading about travel, I often get frustrated and want to actually SEE a place beyond google image.

One of the best things I've found for getting a real view of a country is Anthony Bourdain's show No Reservations. He's had more than 100 episodes of him globe-trotting and eating at some great restaurants, both fancy and basic. Also, you just get to see what a city looks like from the ground, what the people are like etc. You can find these episodes all on youtube, and a list of his destinations on wikipedia.

Here's one he did on Istanbul: hhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyJhRgXJCmc

Another one are the Vice guides to travel. While Bourdain does it all, from fancy to humble, the Vice guides tend to focus exclusively on rougher areas, slums, brutal dictatorships etc. Vice guides are available here:

The Liberia one was really cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQSjyYRTDVM

What other series of travel videos have you found?

Naughty Nomad could make a fortune if he just hired a camerman...

That vbs site is the deal. The North Korea video is crazy and the Liberia one.

If y'all have PBS, there's some good travel shows on there. They usually walk around the cities/towns and you get some good glimpses of the local lizards...just to get an idea of what's over there

I think I learned about a show called "Long Way Round" on these forums. Ewan Mcgregor drives his motorcycle through Ukraine, Russia and Central Asia. The entire series is on youtube.

Also this show about loveme.com in Colombia was interesting:

RE: Good travel videos
Long Way Round is really good, especially if you like motorcycles. They also made a sequel called Long Way Down, when the same crew rides from Scotland to South Africa.

I really enjoyed the show and I consider them highly influential shows that made me really want to travel the world. Obviously Ewan McGregor and his buddy Charlie are actors and have LOTS of cash to throw around, but the spirit of travel and adventure is very strong. The episode in Long Way Round when they are trying to get through Siberia is awesome.

They hit up some Russian clubs too but there is little footage considering both Ewan and Charlie are married.

I recommend Rick Steves' Europe series on PBS, in HD.

It's a bit different from the usual "travel shows" like rick steves' stuff, but there's a Canadian TV show on OLN, called Departures. It's two guys and their cameraman who have been travelling the world for the last 3 years (It's the 3rd season right now).
