Thailand / Philippines...is september a good bet there?
Guys,

I m planning a 2 weeks trip in SE Asia for September, ideally I would like to spend one week in Phuket and one week in BoraCay...is September a good time to get there and do you have any special recommendations for cool locations/hotels in Thailand and Philippines?

You should double-check the monsoon season for Boracay. I was there in early-August 2009 and it poured everyday from 11am; place was a ghost town too. We ended up dipping out early and heading to Cebu City. I just sms'd a few people up there and they said that Sept is hit or miss; if you need to solidify plans early then maybe rethink it.

I was in Boracay for New Years again, bringing in 2011; it was x10 better because it was packed and the weather was decent. Bottomline, if it's low season then Boracay's probably not worth the trip. If you do go, make sure to eat at 'Real Coffee' for breakfast; it's a cool spot, but tucked away on the white beach road so ask a local. Get yourself a calamansi muffin.

Boracay's a bit difficult to get to if you're coming from the US. You'd probably fly into Manila and have to spend a night there then fly to Caticlan mid-morning and then finally boat over to Boracay by the afternoon.--CebuPacific Air. The flight's get bumped often and if you're looking for a week then it may not be worth it cause of the time you'll consume travelling. What are you looking to do?

Get on agoda.com for hotels and reviews in Asia. Then check wotif.com for a price comparison.

Check with youngmobileglobal about Phuket, he's there now.

Cheers--

I'm in Bangkok at the moment. Currently training muay thai here:

I had a good time in Phuket but again, I was doing muay thai. The only real partying of any kind I did was having a couple of beers during my down time while watching the world cup.

I also lived in Rawai, which is probably pretty far from the type of action you seek.

It's funny how my experiences and standards stand in such stark contrast with everyone else's opinion and experiences, since my priorities are always so wildly different.

To each his own, I suppose. If you come through BKK or Phuket holler at me.
