On the old iphone4 you had to delete the youtube app and use youtube through the browser. Once the video starts playing hit top button to turn off the screen, once its off hit the home button twice and a "play" triangle should appear.

I wish I knew how to do it on android.

Why are see through fridges at home not more common? Seems it would be useful to know what's in my fridge.

Probably because they are less efficient.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

^ Perhaps, but since you don't need to have the fridge door open to see what's in it, you're being more efficient. Seems the biggest issue to people is keeping it clean and looking neat. Solution: tinted windows.

The one thing we should definitely have by now, hands down, is supersonic commercial air travel.

We've had that already.

Right, but naturally I'm referring to is that all commercial air travel should be supersonic.

I understand there are engineering factors, economic viability, etcetera. But I would have thought they would've been worked out by now.

Food cubes as seen on Stargate. When I'm extremely busy I hate wasting time cooking and eating. If there was a healthy food cube that could substitute just one meal I would gladly buy it.

Haha. At first I just didn't get the suggestion thinking "But of course you can listen to youtube video's on your phone while doing other things. Prop your phone up while the video is playing and make dinner, lift weights or whatever."

Clearly some people live too much in their phones if the generic "do other things" means the same as "do other things on their phone".

RE: Things that don't exist but should by now
Two suggestions inspired by the ground effect vehicles posts:

1) Intermodal aeroplanes. Basically a rail or bus based system where passengers board the vehicle, say in the city centre, are transported to the airport and the land based unit is driven straight onto the waiting plane. Similar in principle to intermodal rail cars that can also be attached to a rig and driven the last/first mile by road. In aviation there would be issues with weight, but I envisage only the floor of the land based vehicle actually being pushed onto the aeroplane. The plane would basically be built without its own horizontal floor and big front or back hatches. Like many general and military cargo planes.

2) New style airships that offer similar types of journeys to cruise ships, but in the air. Full cabins and viewing decks with the ability to travel or a few days without "landing". There have been proposals for these in the recent past, but they have all come to naught. Apparently airships could be a cost effective way to move freight as well.

It's mostly been about people not wanting to hear sonic booms all day and night. There's been some progress on lowering the effect by creating more points for the shock wave to form thereby creating interference and lowering the sound level of each boom. The problem is that it makes the design inefficient and considerably slower than the Concorde was. Beyond a few smaller business jets, I doubt we'll see routine supersonic travel for a long time.

Hi Captain S

You sound like you know what you are talking about so maybe you can enlighten me.

If it is so impossible to get rid of sonic booms at ground level how come do so many military aircraft that, frankly, wish to be unobtrusive fly at supersonic speeds? Obviously to get away fast, but I'm guessing they fly supersonic over land on the way TO their mission all the time. The SR 71 Blackbird must have flown supersonic many times over Western Europe and the US during the cold war. The USSR as well no doubt. Was it generating sonic booms that could be heard by the peasants, and officials, at ground level?

As an aside. Forget about sonic booms. Concorde had a big noise problem just when taking off (maybe landing as well). I used to live about 10 km from Heathrow. Usually not much aircraft noise since it wasn't under the normal flight paths, but anybody with ears could know that Concorde was on its way to New York. The noise it made. Sounded more like a squadron of jet fighters than a commercial airliner.

Fighters (even the supercruisers) only go supersonic to dash in and out of the target area or to intercept incoming threats. Usually they don't even need to do that. But, if they are supersonic, they're 25-35 nm away before observers on the ground hear the boom. And, yes, plenty of people in the target area hear the boom. There's news coverage of Gaddafi hearing a boom at a press event, then being ushered away - I looked for the video but couldn't find it.

In the US, it's pretty common to hear them if you live near certain military bases.

The thin delta wing was great for mach 2, but horrible for low-speed flight. To compensate, and for the thrust (and shape) needed for mach 2+, it had 4 huge, turbojet engines with afterburners in narrow nacelles - that's a recipe for the most noise possible. The engines came from research on the Avro Vulcan - generally considered the noisiest jet ever.

1) High-Tech Humanoid Robots that perform all of civilization's most boring and menial chores in a post-scarcity economy thus freeing people to devote themselves to edifying pursuits of real value and follow their most creative passions. Do you really think that advanced extraterrestrial civilizations with hundreds of thousands of years of biological, technical and spiritual evolution will still be working for greedy banks and pointless corporations in a wage-slavery system?

2) Interstellar Space Travel through interdimensional warp-drive and extensive contact with other alien civilizations. If only the obscurantism of the Dark Age had never happened and we were saved over a millenium of scientific advancement...

3) An 80's Themed Island, similar to Vice City, where music, fashion, culture and values are only from the 80's, a nostalgic bubble in time for those who just can't let go. It should be a micro-nation built in a tropical sea and open to tourists who wish to relive the glory of the 80's. Anything from any later decades is forbidden and the 80's essence must be preserved at all times.

I've always noticed watching sports, when they show a replay from a different angle - it's significantly more fun to watch. Seeing a replay from the quarterback's angle is better than the standard zoom out.

Same with soccer, a replay at field-level is simply more entertaining.

To this day, there is no option to a choose a different camera angle. It would probably cause for some arguments, but the technology is available. There's no rational explanation as to why this doesn't exist yet.

Add any ideas to the list

NBC kinda had (still has?) this going on with their online stream of Sunday Night Football. You could pick more camera angles than what was shown on TV.

Just the audio, an app that just plays audio.

Soundcloud allows you to listen to things while doing other stuff but obviously only clips uploaded to soundcloud.
Some youtubers do upload audio to soundcloud (Like Sargon of Akkad for This Week in Stupid) but not many.

TR3B OR THE USAs MOST SECRET PLANE
By deejayiwan | Posted September 4, 2010 328

The TR-3B is Code named Astra. The tactical reconnaissance TR-3B first operational flight was in the early 90s. The triangular shaped nuclear powered aerospace platform was developed under the Top Secret, Aurora Program with SDI and black budget monies. At least 3 of the billion dollar plus TR-3Bs were flying by 1994. The Aurora is the most classified aerospace development program in existence. The TR-3B is the most exotic vehicle created by the Aurora Program. It is funded and operationally tasked by the National Reconnaissance Office, the NSA, and the CIA. The TR-3B flying triangle is not fiction and was built with technology available in the mid 80s. Not every UFO spotted is one of theirs.

The TR-3B vehicles outer coating is reactive to electrical Radar stimulation and can change reflectiveness, radar absorptiveness, and color. This polymer skin, when used in conjunction with the TR-3Bs Electronic Counter Measures and, ECCM, can make the vehicle look like a small aircraft, or a flying cylinder--or even trick radar receivers into falsely detecting a variety of aircraft, no aircraft, or several aircraft at various locations. A circular, plasma filled accelerator ring called the Magnetic Field Disrupter, surrounds the rotatable crew compartment and is far ahead of any imaginable technology.

Sandia and Livermore laboratories developed the reverse engineered MFD technology. The government will go to any lengths to protect this technology. The plasma, mercury based, is pressurized at 250,000 atmospheres at a temperature of 150 degrees Kelvin and accelerated to 50,000 rpm to create a super-conductive plasma with the resulting gravity disruption. The MFD generates a magnetic vortex field, which disrupts or neutralizes the effects of gravity on mass within proximity, by 89 percent. Do not misunderstand. This is not antigravity. Anti-gravity provides a repulsive force that can be used for propulsion. The MFD creates a disruption of the Earth's gravitational field upon the mass within the circular accelerator. The mass of the circular accelerator and all mass within the accelerator, such as the crew capsule, avionics, MFD systems, fuels, crew environmental systems, and the nuclear reactor, are reduced by 89%. This causes the effect of making the vehicle extremely light and able to outperform and outmaneuver any craft yet constructed--except, of course, those UFOs we did not build.

And that was back in 2010 imagine now 5 years later what a TR-5X can do!
