It was bound to happen. I think it was already legal in Mexico City. And if it catches on in the capital, it usually catches on to the rest of the country. Mexico City and Guadalajara are the two gayest cities in Mexico, which are considered the most liberal in the country.

What's funny and interesting about countries in Latin America though is that they tend to be the firsts to do things like gay marriage, first women presidents and things of that nature, but they still maintain their machismo/conservative culture. For instance Chile, Argentina and Brazil all have had woman presidents and a few others passed gay marriage. Yet the U.S. which is supposed to be more liberal and progressive hasn't.

What scares me about Mexico though is the decline of believers in the catholic church and the sharp increase of atheism. There are a lot more non-believers than ever before and that makes for these types of things like gay marriage and other things to occur. Atheism breeds ultra-left thinking. What makes women in Latin America feminine, submissive, conservative is the Catholic Church and the believe of the Virgin Mary, which is to be submissive, loyal, heartwarming, etc.... Once you take that away, who knows what Latin America would look like. It all goes back to the Catholic Church. It all goes back to religion people.

The reason why Mexico is that country that is conservative, has feminine women is because of the church and back in 1978 it was considered the most Catholic country in the world with 98% of Mexicans being of Catholic faith. Today, that number is at 85%. A lot of U.S. influence and U.S. customs are making that number drop.

Pope John Paul II loved going to Mexico. It was his favorite country to visit so much so that he visited it five times, which was the most by any pope in history, because of how faithful they were to the church. He would always say "Mexico Always Faithful".


Pope John Paul II first visit to Mexico in 1979. The amount of people who went to see him was something unseen anywhere.





Hopefully Mexico is still Mexico during my lifetime.

Its not "legal". The supreme court upheld a ruling stating that individual states cant deny the validity of same-sex unions, meaning that they cant deny benefits to gay couples that got legally married in other jurisdictions, and then only if those couples sue for those benefits.

Its still up to each states legistators to approve laws regarding same-sex marriages, and only 2 out of 32 have so far: DF, and Coahuila, where they are referred as "civil unions" and not in the same legal standing as marriages.

Gays are celebrating here, but what the bunch of sheep dont know is that they aint won shit.

This is clearly a step towards normalizing gay marriage and it spreading.

That's not to say it will happen immediately, but certainly you can understand why they're happy. Just one more obstacle out of the way for them, and judging how this whole thing is going it doesn't seem too out there to imagine that in 10 years most of Mexico will have gay marriage, if they even allow some states to be holdouts.

The elite U.S. consensus often spreads to other countries quite effectively.
