Gosh. It's hard to imagine.

A wall was never going to make their jobs redundant nor was the military ever going to be posted on the border to shoot trespassers.

But if border control wants a fence then by golly, fuck the American people.

Zero chance that it's just a cynical way to massage down expectations for saps, right?

America was promised border security to stop the inflow of immigrants. Whether it be a wall or what the border control officers want is fine by most people. It all depends on what gets the job done and keeps our people safe.

I'd say border control and our military are more pro-Trump, but I understand why you would question motives.

Border Control wants to be able to see any dangerous activities on the other side. A concrete wall won't allow them to see what is coming. It seems logical to me when you think about it. I don't know why you wouldn't listen to the people doing the jobs and give them what they need.

The endless excuses I see guys making here for Trump's never ending disappointments, are the same a wife makes who can't leave her husband who continually beats her.

"Just give him more time...he means well."

"You don't understand him like I do."

"He didn't mean it that way."

"He won't do it again, he promised me."

"It's not his fault...he just has bad company."

"If it weren't for xyz, he would have already done it."

"It's my fault for not supporting him enough."

"Look at this great message he wrote...this is the REAL him."

"Just another xyz weeks/months and he'll fix everything"

"He'll change...you'll see."

That's not a 16-foot wall. As God-Emperor himself is undoubtedly no less than 12 feet tall, this wall behind him has to be over 30 feet in height - and yes, it's a beautiful wall!

In any case, such is life: we all dream of a Big Beautiful HB9 Wall, but in the end, we'll consider ourselves quite happy to settle for the Medium-Height Pretty HB6,5 Fence

Durangotang, would you rather have something that works or nothing?

You are obviously intelligent and know how our political system works. A person can promise all sorts of things but that alone isn't enough if he can't get Congress to work with him.

I voted and hoped he would fight for the things he promised. I hope he is successful. I do see him fighting when most, if not all, politicians wouldn't have bothered.

As for a wall versus a steel fence, I guess I am just more pragmatic. I welcome anything that gets the job done. The wall was a symbol for border control. If a steel fence is what border control agents want while doing the the job than I am perfectly fine with not getting some big beautiful wall from sea to shining sea.

The issues I have with Trump is him listening to the wrong people. Ryan and McConnell promised Trump wall funding if he played along only to stab him in the back. He should know better than to listen to them. I worry he is listening to the wrong people about Syria as well.

The national emergency stuff won't go anywhere because of lawsuits. Trump's only option to really get something done is to get Democrats to agree on the wall funding. He would be stupid to do a national emergency at this point when more and more pressure is being added every day the government is shut down.

Now, I would be for the national emergency if the Republicans go with the Dems to reopen the government. At that point he would have nothing to lose.

I believe the Dems are for drones, satellites and security cameras. That shouldn't be a issue and one of the reasons they state a wall isn't needed.

I'm curious, why did you guys imagine a wall like that? With watchtowers? That never entered into my mind when talking about a wall.

RE: The Donald Trump thread
I think Trump has willfully dragged his feet so far wrt Wall construction in order to use this as the wedge issue for 2020. He's defining his opponents as supporters of open border illegal immigration, while he's positioning himself as the national protector.

He's also done a great job exposing neocons and interventionists by showing how insignificant the cost of the Wall is in relation to the trillions being spent on endless wars for Israel, thus helping redefine the US military mission, contrasting nation-building with imperial interventionism.

Yes, it's 3D chess, and politically speaking, it's a good move. It will pay off in 2020.

This deserves it's own thread, but has anyone been following the Covington Catholic student controversy on twitter?

The usual cucks on the right outed themselves so we now have a good enemies list of fuckwits who will cop out when the chips are down. I lost a lot of respect for Greg Gutfeld yesterday. I cannot believe these fucking "conservatives" believed the fake narrative from the libtard blue checkmarks right away with little evidence.

Because he's of a higher social caste than whites, so it's a serious offense when they do anything to him.

As for the Wall, the fight for it is going on right now, as we speak. He's shut down the entire government in order to get us what he promised. He's literally shut down everything, from NASA to his own people's paychecks, in order to live up to the deal he made us.

If the government reopens without a wall, then there'll be years and years to be mad at him. But let him make his play first.

I don't and we shouldn't, the problem here is the so-called "conservatives" were quick to throw their own under the bus with evidence from their supposed enemies.

Remember that racist sara jeong? Notice how the libtards stood by her and she wasn't fired? That's the kind of solidarity the right needs, which is why we're going to fail and are doomed unless something changes.

RE: The Donald Trump thread
Is it at all possible that the steel slats are being used as a "wall skeleton"? As in, they go up as some kind of a wall compromise, but a later concrete wall can go up in the exact track they sit in with no need to start from square one this time?

I ask because we need a massive, intimidating concrete wall to stop the bleeding we've been suffering for half a century. It's a strong statement of border protection, and I don't see anything less doing it. If we have ANY illegal immigration, I'd rather it be the educated-looking ones who overstay a study visa and go through the motions of appearing to follow the rules. If we can't absolutely keep the worst ones from walking across, we have no chance.

I have faith in Trump to get at least something out of the Democrats here, but it might be far too little too late, and he isn't exactly a young man. We can only hope he's the beginning to a far more aggressive nationalist America, and that the pussified Paul Ryan and John McCain types fade out soon enough.

You are obviously intelligent enough to know how our political system works. A person can promise all sorts of things but that alone isn't enough if he can't get Congress to work with him.

Why hasn't he begun deporting illegal aliens? He has only sought to deport illegal alien criminals, like MS13. Does he need Congress for that too? There are likely 35 million people illegally in the country. Why hasn't he deported the so called dreamers? Why hasn't his attorney general prosecuted mayors of sanctuary cities? They are breaking federal law. Is Congress necessary for that?

In Fiscal Year 2019, the federal budget will be $4.407 trillion. The U.S. government estimates it will receive $3.422 trillion in revenue. That creates a $985 billion deficit for October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019. It's not like we are cutting the budget to the bone or are under austerity - we are running nearly $1 trillion dollar deficits. Yes, Congress drafts the budget, but Trump signs off on the budget. That's leverage and we are finally seeing him use it - albeit with the wrong Congress, asking for the wrong amount, and too late in the game.

He is also commander and chief, and he did get $1.5 trillion for the military. I would like to think that the author of The Art of The Deal could find a way to allocate $50 billion for the wall from the $1,500 billion dollars that he got to rebuild the military. Or perhaps the master negotiator could find a way to get $50 billion for the wall, out of the $8,000+ billion that his administration has spent in 2017 and 2018 that he signed off on. Instead he asking for $5.7 billion in a publicity stunt to build 200 miles of steel slats. He hasn't even exhausted all measures within his capacity - such as taxing remittances by executive order which could fund the amount that he is currently asking from Congress per year (10% on $50 billion per year).

The bottom line is that he won an historic election, had both houses of Congress, and a clear mandate to build the wall. Instead, he chose to use his political capital to do other things, like tax cuts. It's all his own fault, he had all the momentum in the world. Saying that Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell lied to him is a lame excuse. "I am going to build a big beautiful border wall along our southern border - but not if Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell lie to me." Did anyone here ever believe that these two were anything but liars?

After he went through with the shutdown and threatened to declare a national emergency, I have said that I will withhold judgement until we see what he gets done. So we'll see - the ball is in Trump's court. It's not a good sign, however, that Trump is offering to amnesty 3.6 million "dreamers" in exchange for funding for a couple hundred miles of steel slats. Can't they just chain migration their family unless that is also reformed? Also, if that goes through, then there will be no moral authority to challenge the 14th amendment (anchor babies) and you can kiss Texas goodbye forever. A republican will never win another national election again.

You asked if I would rather get something that works or nothing? Does a couple hundred miles steel slats on a 1,950 mile border sound like something that works to you? Is that worth amnesty for millions of future Democrat dreamers? This could all be bluster and Trump could still declare a national emergency and start to build a proper wall. I will wait and see what happens.

I’d rather be far right, than far wrong!

Dude, are you even watching what has been happening?

Session was going after businesses for hiring illegals. Not just the gangs.

Sessions talked about withholding federal money for sanctuary cities and the libs ran to the courts and stopped him. Do you even know if prosecuting is a possibility?

Trump tried to rescind the DACA executive order and the libs ran to the liberal courts and stopped him. He is waiting on the Supreme Court to make a ruling.

Regardless, the dreamers aren't going anywhere. Trump said he wanted to find a solution for them when he was campaigning. He will use them to negotiate on visa lottery and chain migration. He has to wait until the court rules in his favor so he can tear up the executive order and make it a priority for Dems to negotiate.

Trump also said he was close to working out a deal with the Dems up until the lib court ruled against him. The dems disappeared once there was no immediate danger of DACA being rescinded.

You are talking like you don't know any of this. You really should if you're going to criticize the guy.

Congress controls how the money is to be spent. This is how our political system has always worked. Otherwise there wouldn't be a problem.

I say this with all due respect, but you are not fooling anyone when you say you will withhold judgement until we see how things get played out.

Quote:It's not a good sign, however, that Trump is offering to amnesty 3.6 million "dreamers" in exchange for funding for a couple hundred miles of steel slats.

He offered temporary amnesty and everyone knew the Dems wouldn't take it anyway.

RE: The Donald Trump thread
The teenage hat thing appears to be another fake news setup. The kids were insulted or provoked by people in the march and then the old guy steps in with his drum. Then role the cameras. Kids are easy to provoke and then act out. A perfect setup. Are you still believing anything these media rats produce?

This is absolutely insane. You can look back and history wonder how a country gets so fucked up, but its like we are watching the steps unfold right before our eyes.

Banning hats.... he has to know that a hat that says “make America great again” isn’t illegal and good luck passing that through Congress
