RE: The Donald Trump thread
Today's Jay Sekulo broadcast was somewhat informative. They discussed the Sarah Farkas story, emphasizing that she wasn't a US government employee in 2016. So her quotes suggest that Trump was being surveilled as early as 2015, (perhaps even earlier).

Also, Adam Schiff is the ranking Democrat member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. He is entitled to see all information that Nunes brought to President Trump, but President Trump is the first person entitled to see that information. (It's actually the law that says President Trump is entitled to be the first to see any information regarding improper surveillance of American citizens.)

Going back to Farkas, she said that she wanted to bring as much information about Trump and Trump's staff to "her friends on The Hill". She clearly wasn't speaking about Republicans, so she must be speaking about Democrats. Since she admitted to leaking information about Trump, which Senator would be most likely to have received such leaked information?

While you're thinking about that, President Trump invited all members of the Senate Intelligence Committee to visit the White House and see the information given to him by Nunes. One Senator publically refused and declared he was extremely bothered by the way that information was presented to the God-Emperor.

That man was Adam Schiff, ranking Democrat member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and...hey, wait a minute...a prime suspect in the Sarah Farkas-related "our friends on The Hill" comment.

Quote:Sessions Seeks to Speed Deportation of Federal Inmates

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Jeff Sessions is announcing a plan to speed up the deportation of immigrants in the country illegally who have been convicted of federal crimes.

Sessions said Thursday that the Justice Department will expand an existing program aimed at holding deportation hearings for immigrants while they are still in federal prison. That effort is known as the Institutional Hearing Program.

Holding such hearings before inmates' sentences are finished would let the government deport them immediately when they are released.

Sessions, who has made immigration enforcement a key Justice Department priority, says the government owes it to the American public to quickly deport illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes.

Under the proposal, 14 federal prisons and six contract facilities will be set up for immigration removal proceedings.

RE: The Donald Trump thread
Schiff is full of shit. Only he and Nunes in the House Committee, and chair and ranking member of the Senate Committee have the authorization to view the materials. He knows this, so his call to have the WH share with the full committee is a red herring. When this request inevitably gets denied as he knows it will, he can cry foul to a compliant media and unknowing public about "Why do they keep hiding this information?" And of course he himself can't say anything about materials only he has the right to view, so he dodges the obvious "well just brief them yourself" reasoning.

Of course even if he wanted to brief them he couldn't, because the materials on view were only accessible at the WH owing to their classification. The media has been obfuscating this point to push nonsense about Nunes colluding with Trump in some manner. The fact of the matter is that the particular information in question can only be viewed at the secure location in the WH. The apparent bombshell article in the NYT yesterday intimated that there were similar secure locations in Congress and elsewhere where this could have been viewed, to further the point that the "choice" of being at the WH is nefarious. It is true there are similar secure locations elsewhere, it is not true that this piece of intelligence could have been seen at those other locations.

That is why Schiff had to go to the WH today, and why Nunes did a week ago. It is also why neither Nunes nor Schiff can brief the rest of the committee, and why Nunes couldn't even brief Schiff. The only way Schiff could get the information was to go to the WH as he did today. All week these details have been twisted to imply some sort of nefarious secrecy where there was none.

Having seen the info, Schiff can now only talk it down and make his nonsense request to let the whole committee in on it so as to further the BS. The senate chair and ranking member refusing to go to the WH, instead asking the WH to instruct the intelligence agencies repsonsible to send it to them directly is another huge red herring because the WH can't do that. It allows the Senators to plug their ears and scream I CANT HEAR YOU with respect to whatever Nunes and Schiff have seen, just so they can do what they have wanted to do all along - play politics over this Russia fan fiction.

RE: The Donald Trump thread
The nonsense about Russia at least gives me hope that the establishment is running on empty.

In the west, Russia has still not shaken the imagery of communism. Even young voters are very familiar with the old tropes of the cold war due to their persistent appearance in video games. Meanwhile the real cold war veterans are smart enough not to listen to this nonsense, and the anti-Russians were only ever going to vote Republican anyway.

So getting young people on board with the idea that "post-communist Russia is the bad guy" is a pretty hard sell. The socialist youth love communist-Russian imagery and the non-socialist youth don't have their heads firmly planted in their ass so they're not listening one way or the other.

Old-media screaming about Russia has taken on all the authority and nobility of a bunch of LARPers, only these journos are LARPing the cold war. Sad!

And I find her usage of r/The_Donald terminology disturbing.

My aunt was anti Trump, and very pro Hillary, after Trump won we had a conversation, she was trashing Trump, this was at the time the Mexico City policy was changed by Trump, I explained to her what the policy really means, not tax money for oversea abortion.

The interesting part? my aunt is evangelical, and she is disgusted by abortion, when I explained very quick Trump stopped using her money to pay for abortions in others countries her tune changed, not a pro Trump but a more neutral one.

This is the best way to turn people bit by bit to a more Trump position, find something they may agree and build from that, after I told my aunt about the Mexico City policy, I twisted the conversation about Trump not drinking alcohol, she said "that is good, I like that".

What is more likely is that the Senators are trying to keep the House and Senate intelligence investigations decoupled.

The House investigation became politicized the second Nunes dropped his "incidental collection" bombshell last week. This means that the findings that come out of the House investigation now lack credibility among the American public.

The Senate investigation is sticking purely to an investigation into Russian collusion in order to prevent the investigation from becoming politicized. This is actually in our best interest because it will keep the investigation focus narrower and the findings that come out of it will be credible enough to prevent an independent prosecutor.

If the Senate picks up the Trump allegation of wiretapping, this increases the likelihood of the investigation becoming politicized, which would in turn increase the likelihood of an independent prosecutor. An independent prosecutor would mean no Republican influence and you have a guy that will go underground for the next 1.5 to 2 years (this means legislative process almost completely stops in its tracks for 2 years) and will come out periodically to drop bombshells.

If you have the Senate investigation decoupled and focused, this means we may get conclusions within the next 6-12 months (much faster) and they will have a Republican influence, which means a decreased likelihood of the findings being transformed into high powered political weaponry.

RE: The Donald Trump thread
From the Washington Times article (quoted a couple of pages ago):

A group of House Republicans on Thursday introduced the first major bill to fund President Trump’s border wall, saying the government could collect billions of dollars by imposing a 2 percent fee on all the money Mexicans and other immigrants send back home.

Estimates vary, but remittances from those in the U.S. to their relatives back home could top $130 billion a year. A 2 percent tax could net more than $2 billion a year if it applied to all money regardless of who’s sending it.

“This bill is simple — anyone who sends their money to countries that benefit from our porous borders and illegal immigration should be responsible for providing some of the funds needed to complete the wall,” Rep. Mike Rogers, Alabama Republican, said in a statement. “This bill keeps money in the American economy, and most importantly, it creates a funding stream to build the wall.”

Mr. Rogers and Rep. Lou Barletta of Pennsylvania are leading the effort.

-------------------

Would this actually work? When governments impose these kinds of taxes, people and organizations usually find a way around them.

1. As someone mentioned above, Silicon Valley might find a solution. They don't care about losing business from Trump voters for doing this because they will probably gain more from the anti-Trump coalition. Most lefty businesses have made this calculation and are sticking to it.

2. Bitcoin. Govt will eventually regulate bitcoin but someone will probably then come up with yet another alternative.

3. Border runs. Intermediaries take remittance money from USA to Canada. Money is then remitted from Canada to Mexico.

4. Mexican Hawala: A more elaborate version of the border run.

5. Conversions. Convert remittance money to some other valuable movable asset and move that overseas.

These are just a few that I can think of off the top of my head. I am sure the experts will find other ways.

What about tariffs on Mexican imports? My guess is that Mexico responds with similar tariffs. Mexico also reaches out to China for help. China squeezes Trump hard for a bit. Trump quickly backs off.

Just my two cents.

I agree any anyone who bitches or complains about it being too much needs to think about the amount they paid in VAT while traveling abroad. In a lot of countries, VAT is 15% or higher. If we have to contribute to a country's coffers without receiving any services, people can easily float 2 percent.

A vintage 1990 interview with Trump by Connie Chung (remember her?)

You can see a lot of his present persona and values and his skill at thinking on his feet. He does come across as more reserved and reflective than now. Around the 8:30 mark, she tries to get him to reveal his weaknesses, his faults. Handled like a master. Starting around 13:00, his thoughts about child raising.
