RE: Average American Woman's Weight = 1960's American Male Weight
This article in the NYT said that dieting works for very few people. There is increasing consensus that being fat is quasi-permanent. Once you reach that level, the seal is broken. Fat becomes the new standard, and your metabolism adjusts accordingly.
Reading the comments in th article, many say: "At last! Proof that fatness is an illness!" They take it as good news, evidence that the fat haters are just big old meanies.
I think the conclusions are far more sinister. If you become fat at an early age, say through bad parenting, you are fucked forever. The dieting concept is an invention of the health/medical industry. Forget it. If you're fat, it's over. People need to recognise the seriousness of that before it's too late.

I have to disagree with this. The article says
Quote:That is the advice dieters often get, but studies have not found that to be the case. For example, a recent Australian study, funded by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council and the Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation, randomly assigned 204 obese people to subsist on just 450 to 800 calories a day for 12 weeks, or to cut a more modest 400 to 500 calories a day from their diets over 36 weeks. The goal for both groups was a 15 percent weight loss. Three years after the study began, almost everyone had regained the weight they lost, despite counseling on diet and exercise.
Why wouldn't the assumption here be that most of these people went back to the incredibly unhealthy eating/exercise habits they had before the study. We are just told that they almost all returned to their previous weight despite counseling on diet and exercise. What the fuck does that mean?
Wouldn't the results be similar in any study relating to an unhealthy behavior, your liver improves when you stop drinking, your lungs when you smoking etc. People still go back to doing those things, because unhealthy habits are hard to break. To insinuate, as this article does, that the return to the previous weight is physiological and not behavioral is a stretch (pun intended) at best.
I still have yet to see any evidence that continuing healthy eating and exercise habits yields anything but sustained transformative results.

This is the exact kind of fatalism that the MSM wants you to have. The fact is, losing weight is not hard - reducing carbs, eliminating sugar and soft drinks from your diet, making fresh meals instead of processed frozen garbage, eating lots of fresh vegetables, and so on - will do the job, combined with regular exercise and eating reasonable portions.
The problem is that most Americans just aren't willing to give up their garbage food and drinks, and the adulterous collaboration of big agribusiness and public health policy don't want you doing that either because it will cost them billions of dollars of profit. It doesn't help that the whole concept of the "diet" is flawed, and what is necessary is permanent, not temporary, dietary change.

When I was in my 20s, knew a girl who probably weighed about 160sih. Drank pop regularly. She did just 1 thing, quit drinking pop, lost 30 fucking lbs in 6-7 months, and instantly became bangable.
So much can be done with diet alone it's just silly. Every time lately I see the following: A car accident, a public disturbance, a mistake in business or transaction of basic operations in anything, a mess, littering, a hold up in a line, e.v.e.r.y. damn time, the person is a minimum a fatso, if not an obese blob with edema cankles growing, and hog jowls.
When you become obese, you have to start with diet first, then segue into exercise and diet simultaneously.. because you are so weak you can't support normal operation of the human body with what you've done to yourself. It WILL feel like you're dying to make a significant change with exercise. The first 6 months SHOULD be pushed to the edge of heart attack and stroke because THAT's what it takes to undo obesity... and if you die trying, well at least there's a smidgen of honor in that.

RE: Average American Woman's Weight = 1960's American Male Weight
(08-05-2016 08:41 AM)churros Wrote: Guys. There is a moral point and a physiological point. Don't confuse them. The scientific evidence says that fat people return to their fattest weight very easily. Their metabolism has changed permanently. That is why dieting often fails. Does that mean it is impossible to lose weight? No. Does it make it harder? Yes. I eat a hamburger, nothing happens. Former fattie does, and he gets fat. That's a tough break. Even beer is high in calories.
Can we reduce the problem of fatness to morality? Only if you ignore factors such as physiology, environment, and class. Of course, lazy people exist. But it's hard to moralise without knowing someone's specific situation. Do not confuse this with a fluffy, bleeding heart argument. By definition, morality concerns the individual. And you simply don't know the facts. That's why conservative analyses of society often miss the mark.
You can permanently change the body's homeostasis: The "Fat Gene" is passed down from the father (recent science has proven). For instance, usually, a fat dad ... at the point of conception will have fat kids who turn into fat adults.
Even if the mom's a blob, if the father's skinny, usually over time, the child will grow into a skinny adult barring any Westernized fatso habits.
How you change the homeostasis of the body is over-shoot your target, and extend time beyond physiological systems ability to rebound. You literally change the chemical-burn-rate of your body.
So, if you're 100 lbs over weight, you need to loose ALL 100 LBS. and keep it off for a few years, THEN you will permanently change yourself. You will also, as such, change your genetics.
People trying to lose or gain weight always fail at this. Why? Because they just hit their target, then recess from it. You have to HOLD your target for at least a few years. Which is why they call the exercise craze movement a "lifestyle change."
The problem is with so much pacification from every stimulus in the West, it's a daunting proposition for anyone. I know this works because I've done it and know others who have.

RE: Average American Woman's Weight = 1960's American Male Weight
It's all about diet and impulse control. That's it.
I've lived with fat people. I've tried to help them.
They all eat crap, too much of it, and too often.
Shit loads of ranch dressing, high calorie alcohol drinks, soda, tons of cheese, processed garbage, tons more of soda. Combined with no physical activity = fat fuck. Even WITH physical activity, its hard to burn all that shit off unless you are a swimmer or something.
When I've tried to help these people, they act like eating consistently good for 3 days in a row is a giant struggle. 2 months? Forget it. Only a heart attack or some other major health/lifestyle issue gets them to get their head out of their ass. I've tried to babysit people by staying on their ass to exercise and eat right and it's a fools errand. As soon as you let up, they will revert back to their old ways.
In dating, even if a woman is fit TODAY, I will instantly KO her for anything beyond a bang if she has shit eating habits. One girl I banged bragged that she couldn't cook and lived off PB+J's everyday. She will be a fat fuck VERY soon (got the bang while still young and thin by the way).
I have no sympathy for fat people aside from the truly infirm.
