RE: Would You Continue To Post Here If You Had To Use Your Real Name?
When I joined I used my goto handle which is my real life first name followed by my surname's initial. In retrospect in may not have been the most intelligent move I've ever made. For example a Bangkok thread I made has over 5,000 views. O_O

Oh well. I'm not a politically correct guy, everyone who knows me knows that and my views are fairly mainstream friendly though anything could be misconstrued as racist or sexist thee days.

I understand why people post under pseudonym and if I had my chance to start this again I probably would have though it's not a big thing.

I have seen Facebook pages of SJWs I have known, and they use their real names. But they just post articles from various SJW websites and don't reveal any personal information. It is like a marketing brochure to show everyone how wonderful and socially aware they are.

Look at the Amish. They have withdrawn from society and have convinced people to leave them alone by appearing harmless. What they don't tell you is that the reason they have separated is because they believe that the outside world is evil. If it wasn't, there would be no reason to separate. Sometimes keeping your thoughts within a community of believers makes sense. You can use the energy to strengthen your community without getting into futile arguments and conflicts.

If the ideas and arguments are sound, it matters not who expresses them. This is just a tool for SJWs to ignore the argument and attack the source.

RE: Would You Continue To Post Here If You Had To Use Your Real Name?
I have honestly been using this handle exclusively for all my online accounts since I was a wee lad. Back in the golden age of the internet (I'm talking early 2000s'), there was a time when if you Googled "General Stalin" I was the first search result. Before Wikipedia or any biographies or websites referring to Joseph Stalin. Ahhh those were the days.

I would say using your real name has become incredibly prevalent with the advent of social media. People trust far too much and have little to no regard for identity or information security. I liked 10-15 years ago when you had basically a whole nother life and identity on the internet.

I will say with the trend of employers looking up your information online and people being doxed for having opinions, there has been a mild push back of using your real identity, but using your real name for Facebook and whatnot is still the norm.

I don't know if I would use my real name or not. Does it even matter? Does using your real name add to the validity of your statements? I spose if my life were setup a little differently then I would feel differently about it.

I currently have an employer, and I also run a side business and am in a band. If I chose to be outspoken on the internet and use my real name that could potentially affect my life negatively. Its a level of censorship I dislike but accept.

That sounds great in theory but the reality is that the forum is still susceptible to attacks from white knight and SJW hackers. On top of that there have been cases in the past where trolls have managed to snag 10+ reps before being banned. It's always a better screening process to meet the man behind the username and then deciding what personal info you feel you should divulge.

I speak from experience..... take heed the above words. we had a forum that had a vouched-VIP section where we would post conquests/lays/insider information in the industry the forum was built around. We avoided any trolls/sleepers, but it didn't matter when the website was hacked. Forums in general expose a lot of security vulnerabilities, and while I'm sure RVF is much more secure than this forum, the attack wasn't very sophisticated (SQL injection) and it jeopardized a lot of people. One of the girlfriends of a moderator shared nudes of herself in this VIP section and now has her pictures plastered all over the internet.

RE: Would You Continue To Post Here If You Had To Use Your Real Name?
Maybe.

The thing about rhetorical questions is that you don't know what conditions would've changed in order for the scenario to become true. If I had to use my real name to post here, what other conditions would've changed?

- well, for starters, all the people I'm talking with are using their real names as well.

- other people using their real name might not be as candid and willing to share the things they have on this forum. It might not be as interesting to me.

- using my real name, I might still post here, but choose to disclose different things than I do with a handle

- I might have never even found this forum. I came here via a link from Rollo Tomassi, a pen name linking to a post made by some other pen name.

The OP was probably meant as a simple question, not a philosophical exercise. So I'll try to simplify my answer. Assuming all else the same, I'd post here using my real name, but I think this forum would be a much different place.

Sure, why not. I posted much worse things in my blog under my real name. Nobody in Turkey cares about anybody's blog, except for celebrities and their tweets. As long as I stayed away from Turkish politics, I would be fine.

I would however worry about girls googling my name only to find a misogynist pig. But then again, in Turkey you can be misogynist as well. Nobody cares if you don't respect women for their genitals.

I work in a field that is, unfortunately, extremely sensitive to SJW rhetoric even though my immediate circle could give a fuck. So no way. I'll give you a hint though: H_v_n M_n_h_n.

As of today, there is nothing the SJWs can do to touch me. On the other hand who knows what consecuences a comment made today might have in the future.

At the moment, no. I'm currently in a fairly high tier business program so it could prove hazardous to my career. I'm also not yet in a position that I could benefit from a controversy with my name attached.

Seriously though I wonder if parents take this into consideration when naming children.
