Anyone play?

Would there be any interest in getting an RVF server going?

RE: Minecraft
My old roommate was big into Minecraft. I'm not a gamer, but it was probably the best game I ever played with him. We would come home from the bars and build strip mines while chugging keystone light. Next thing I knew, it was 8 am and we only found 12 diamonds. We always played on his XBox 360.

Now my five year old nephew is a huge fan. I bought him a diamond foam sword for Christmas. My dad had to set up the dinosaur mod for him since he loves dinosaurs.

I've only played on my old roommate's 360. But I would be down to set something up on my computer if we had an RVF server. The game is fun and addicting as fuck.

RE: Minecraft
The game is also streamed through Twitch. But I would never play it knowing that I can easily get addicted to it like with Starcraft

I'd play on an RVF server. That'd be fun.

RE: Minecraft
Hosting seems pretty cheap, a server that can handle 24 concurrent players is only around $6/mo.

If a decent crop of people say they'd be interested in playing I'll put up a server.

RE: Minecraft
Played Minecraft. Very fun especially how it manages to simulate the wilderness and gives you almost complete freedom to do anything from mining, building, exploring new areas and making tools to mine, reshape the environment and fight enemies.

It becomes even more enjoyable with other players.

My lizard brain gets pleased at such a wilderness life and the freedom that I have in the game which is at the same time is easier than the real thing.

I used to play it. It would be quite fun getting to the netherworld... until you died and lost everything.

I was addicted to that shit like crack a couple years ago. I hosted a 100 person server. It was really fun. Now I moved on though.

RE: Minecraft
I'm in, though I acknowledge it as a potential time sink.

Could be a good way to connect with other RVFrs which is certainly of value.

RE: Minecraft
I used to be addicted to Minecraft. If you play on a PC, you've got to try modpacks. There are mods that completely rework the game, to where you can build automated quarries, make nuclear reactors and intercontinental ballistic missiles.

I used to play on the Tekkit launcher, but I moved over to Feed The Beast because they put out updates faster. Basically you launch the game from here instead of the normal Minecraft launcher, but you can choose from a ton of different modpacks.

The main pack I recommend is on the Feed The Beast Launcher, called Agrarian Skies. AS 2.0 came out recently, as well. Basically you start in the sky with nothing but a few pieces of dirt, and through quests you'll eventually be mass-producing Hamburger Happy Meals and thermal generators. Oh, and if you die too many times your world gets deleted.

I think it's just as easy to set up a modded server, but I never really fooled around with it.

Well we definitely have enough people interested to have a fun little server going.

I'll probably rent a cheapo server tomorrow and start things up, unless anyone feels inclined to beat me to the punch.

RE: Minecraft
I used to be very into Minecraft on Xbox 360. I'd spend hours playing with my friends, building things, blowing them up, then building more things.

I had it on PC, but have deleted it since. I only take it I can re-download it for free?

I'd be down.

Can servers be synched cross platform?

A while back a friend ran a server from his computer and a couple of us would build forts then let zombies lose.

I don't have a x box and don't use my computer often.

I remember playing minecraft 5 years ago on the PC when it was in Beta, and then playing it post release. Those were the days. Highschool.

I'd play through the night alongside my roommate trying to do an essay I didn't want to write simultaneously.

Unfortunately as far as I know there's no compatibility between different platforms at present. It's conceivable they might be able to do it for the XBox and PC versions in the future, but the android and iphone versions of the game have a substantially different code base.

RE: Minecraft
The map that generated is actually pretty cool, spawn happens to be on a big hill with a good view.

I built a little cabin, lets all go MGTOW.

Maybe I'm retarded, but during the one and only time that I played Minecraft, I couldn't figure out what to do or what the controls might be.

Minecraft is really not user-friendly for new players. Without mods or checking online, there is absolutely no guidance on how to build anything.

RE: Minecraft
What's the goal in this game? I watched my little cousins play this a bit, but they were just building stuff. Is there something you need to fight later on, or a princess in a castle or something?

RE: Minecraft
It's a sandbox game. There is a "boss" which is a giant dragon. It's hard to get to, actually. It's mostly a fun game to explore around, defeat enemies and create things. There isn't really an end to the game, though you can play the game where you fight against one another.

A small pictorial update of some things.

Another player built a cabin, that looks 100x nicer than mine

I built this little gothic tower thing, I think it looks pretty imposing.

One of the cooler parts of the natural landscape I've found so far... Not far from spawn, there's this forest with a canopy of dense gnarled trees and giant mushrooms everywhere.
