Not a complete solution to your problem, but consider just getting a data sim and only use a voip type service like Skype to deal with calls. I find it's easier to manage my calls that way. It's much more straightforward to set rules as to who may message or call you. e.g. Only people in contact list. All others go to spam, to voicemail, or not allowed through at all. My experience with phones and cell companies is that doing this via a regular cellphone company number is near impossible. But I am certainly no expert.

Once set up just give people your voip number. If you want to hear from them add their number to your contacts. If not don't add or delete.

PS: You'll deed decent 3G and/or wifi availability for voip to work well.

Change your name.

Just do it. my fb name is just my initials sounded out. perfect for privacy.

If you never want to be able to send / receive texts, you could delete the message centre number from your SMS settings.

That won't help the op who doesn't want to receive texts.

Can you divert phone calls from your subscription? Sometimes diverts within the same network is also free.

Divert your original phone number to another number. Take out the sim with your original number and use the new sim that you diverted to. That way texts won't get delivered that are sent to your original number.

The only problem is that when you call from your new number the new number will show unless you are blocking your number.

There are ways to block phone numbers on your phone.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201229

Or get multiple phones.

If you are using an old phone you could just let the memory get full and text messages won't get delivered.

The problem with that is that the sender still gets a read receipt and thinks that the message got through.

I thought there was a Facebook feature to disable anyone searching for you by name...?

Nope. Facebook is subverting privacy in the name of "profits." I dont buy it for a second. It is much worse. They want everybody searchable for a myraid of reasons. I tried to change my name as mentioned by a previous poster and it would not let me do it. That is funny.
Notice how when anything happens to somebody everybody runs to facebook to see if they are on there, like for an accident or any kind of altercation? Well. Time to dump this shit.

Geez. A fake picture and no city listed while having a Private profile is your best option...or just delete the whole thing.

You get to decide who texts you or if you receive texts at all by giving out your number or not.

If you don't like texting its simple. Tell them "I don't text, so you shouldn't text me to contact me. I won't respond"

If they can't accept it then remove them from your life.

You can turn off texting on your phone just jack up your mms settings and tell everyone your phone is locked to Att. You would need a newer iphone to fool girls that text you already.

You can even show them it doesn't work.

Odd, i remember an option for "Blocking all texts" on my verizon plan. Even ATT has it.

Can't speak for outside the country.

If, for reasons which I will not pass judgement on, you are adamant on not letting texts arrive at your phone, get an Android, root it, and uninstall the texting app.

A lighter approach would be to turn off notifications (e.g. use google messenger as your sms app and have notifications turned off completely or for certain numbers).

A long way to make a point.

It takes two layers of Tinfoil to block a cellphone signal.

I have tried this, and it works spectacularly.
