Great. Next step is to get Emirates Airlines money-grubbing hands out of FIFA/Football.

I've actually never stopped to think about how absurd having the cup in Qatar would be.

I was so focused on 2014 when it was first announced. With that over, I look forward to 2018 in Russia, which I think is a fine choice.

Now that I do stop to think about it.... WTF?

Qatar, nor any of the countries around there are even remotely suitable for hosting the best sports tournament in the world.

I think great options would be the US, England or Spain.

RE: FIFA Corruption Scandal - 6 Arrested for Extradition to USA
I was always perplexed by the decision of Qatar. Brazil was good because it had a variety of climates and had the ability to have many matches going on in different locations in the country. Have you seen the size of Qatar? It's smaller than Belgium. There's no way that many stadiums could be built to accomodate such an event without the use of, well, extracurricular activities.

I personally would like to see it in an Asian country. I think the sport needs a bigger oriental fan base, and a country such as China or Japan could easily accomodate such an event. Even South Korea could work.

Sepp is fucked though, give it a few years and a few plea deals.

The US must have some fairly airtight evidence, because it looks like once they presented it the Swiss authorities immediately mobilized and acted without pushing back. I'd say these six guys, plus the other ones being hunted, are looking at some time and large fines.

I still don't see why the world cup hasn't been in China yet. What better way to expand your influence into Asia. It still bogs my mind that you see all these countries getting bids and China still hasn't.

Could you imagine a world cup in China? Fucking epic!!!

They say that if it wasn't for the bribes, 2022 would have gone to the U.S.

Qatar was controversial because of their human rights records. It is estimated that about 4,000 immigrants from neighboring countries will die from building these stadiums.

Also, Qatar promised to enact an air conditioning system in their stadiums which will bring temperatures down from 120 degrees Fahrenheit to about 100. Which is still pretty shitty. Its a pipe-dream since this kind of technology cannot be developed that fast. It was just confirmation bias from FIFA which is why they think of having it in the winter.

Another horrible thing that will transpire is that alcohol is banned in Qatar. Fans are fucked when they find out that the bars they go into only serve coffee.

Also, strict laws towards clothing on women. Just imagine what the police would do with Brazilian, Argentinian, and Colombian women flock to this country showing ass and titties with their bikinis all over the place.

The 2022 world cup will be a complete joke. Blatter has already come out and said that having the world cup there was a mistake, but that the decision was irreversible.

Why do countries even bid for the WC? Seems like every country is worse off after the WC comes through. I would hate it if the WC came to America while I'm here. All the morons would come out of the woodwork celebrating an event that they are hardly interested in.

I'm really not surprised that this sporting commission is getting reamed out. About damn time. Every sporting commission needs a major purge.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

@midwest we already saw the Olympics in China, which is kind of like the world Cup. Not sure how Argentinian women are getting to Qatar, it's not a high income country.

@Carlos you're right man. The Swiss don't move around quickly and normally put up resistance when it comes to arresting people on another other country's request. The US probably has something nice in the evidence room.

How did the US manage to move so fast to arrest foreign officials in a foreign country over a sport but not one banker has been arrested for the 2008 financial crisis?

For the same reason that the cop in Cleveland was acquitted - amongst other reasons, it would be difficult to pin a crime on any one particular person.

Qatar is scrambling with low oil prices with the obsene budget they proposed. They have already cut some stadiums and rumors are they are already running their capital budget for infrastructure dry. They might have to move it if Qatar can't even bring forward the bare minimums to host successfully. USA was already placed as a "plan b" if any of these hodge podge places can't make it work. USA can host with only a year notice.

RE: FIFA Corruption Scandal - 6 Arrested for Extradition to USA
FIFA has been ran as a dictatorship fuelled by corruption since the days of Joao Havelange in the 70's. 2 men have been running or rather ruining it since the 70s, Joao Havelange in the 70's to 98 and Sepp Blatter since then. Time to remove that thief!

And giving the WC to Qatar was the biggest farce ever! I'm really getting tired with them trying to buy everything! They have been buying teams in Europe left and right (City and PSG come to mind). And they bought the 2015 Handball WC where as a host, they built a team of mercenaries from all over the world to represent them in the WC. In their WC team, only 1 Qatari the rest were all foreigners: croatians, germans, russians, spaniards, french, argentinians, egyptians etc. A team that had never won a single international match on their own, reached the WC finals with their team comprised of mercenaries! I wouldn't be surprised if their team for the 2022 WC team were to be the same. And that is an even bigger shame than buying the world cup altogether!

Fans and all the countries that are members of FIFA should band together and boycott that WC should they maintain the WC in Qatar!

Great alternatives would be Australia, China, Spain, England, Canada, USA. Anything but Qatar or any of those mickey mouse countries!

Blatter you're a THIEF! RAUS, OUT, FUORI, FUERA, FORA, DEHORS!

Hopefully:
Most of FIFA is arrested before the Qatari world cup.
None of the teams, players or fans go, it ends up being a 'world cup' of middle eastern countries.
Qatar goes bankrupt, left with empty falling down stadiums all over its country, and they're hated by the football world.
A rival organisation is formed instead which everyone joins.

.. Well I can dream can't I?

Why should the USA get to host in emergency over the UK? We have better stadiums and atmosphere, a real football culture and there wouldn't be this silly business of teams having 5 hour flights for their next game.

Don't the previous owners of City and PSG suffer far more responsibility for selling the club, especially for selling it to Qataris? Why not take it up with them?

USA just has a easier setup. In the summer no American football conflicts and it has 30 stadiums that could be used with proper hotel, highway, and airport access. This list below does not even include many college stadiums either, just mostly big NFL stadiums that would be empty in June/July.

Houston
Dallas (Arlington)
Phoenix (Glendale)
Chicago
New York (New Jersey)
Miami
Tampa Bay
San Francisco (Santa Clara)
Boston
Denver
Pasadena or Stanford
Washington DC

^^^^
All those cities could host in June/July of next year even if needed. Very little work would need to be done and it would not conflict with other soccer clubs as would happen in the UK since no MLS facilities would be used aside from Foxborro in Boston, you would also have to lay down sod in Boston but that takes 6 days max to do.

The USA was put as a permanent "Plan B" when South Africa was awarded the games just in case they couldn't pull it off. Plus no BS politics, If the UK was awarded emergency games then France and Germany and maybe other UEFA nations would start moaning and crying.
