I'll be moving to Mexico for a few months to work on my Spanish & boxing

Do you know of any good boxing gyms in the Guadalajara area?

Thanks

I think Merenguero nailed that one, and definitely do a trip report if you've got the time, sounds like a great idea.

I walked into a branch of Elorde Boxing gyms last week.

One training session is 200 PhP. You can sign up for five at 750 PhP or 10 at 1400 PhP. One month unlimited is 3000 PhP.

Wraps and gloves can be purchased or rented for 60 PhP per session, pretty good because the wraps are laundered.

The trainers are aspiring young Filipino boxers. My trainer is amused by this old Kano, I follow his instructions.

After a week's training, I learned a lot and lost 2 lbs.

Sparring with other students of comparable ability is easy to set up, I have the bruised ribs to prove it.

Thanks Sp5. I was wondering about them because they are all over Manila.

Does your trainer teach much technique, or is it mostly cardio boxing?

So many trainers really lack in the actual "training" department, and just want to burn the student out with push ups and rapid fire punching. It's important to get a coach who actually teaches and corrects your technique.

Yes, my trainer does teach technique, he watches and keeps correcting me.

He went though stance, movement, all the punches, combinations and defense. And that's in three sessions. He demonstrates, then I try it and he corrects me. He does leave me alone on the bags once in awhile, but cycles back to watch and correct me. He gives a few minutes with the mitts each session.

The warm-ups are just stretching and running 10 laps around the gym, which does not take long.

Of course you're going to get different trainers, there will be a couple hanging around each branch and can change them if you want.

The great thing about the place is you can walk in any one of them and find a trainer and try them out for about $5.50.
