I have nothing against Tina Turner as far as it goes, but it was clear that inserting her into the movie was a ploy to capitalize on her trending popularity, which was undergoing something of a revival in the 1980s. But it just didn't feel right. She just seemed out of place among all the leather-clad barbarians.

Same thing with having all these kids in the film. There was a whole ridiculous sequence with Mel Gibson stumbling on a "tribe " of kids looking for their lost leader or some nonsense.

So they turned what had been one of the most masculine movies ever made--The Road Warrior--into some sort of social statement where feral kids and female singing icons had center stage. Mad Max was reduced to just being a cab driver with brass knuckles.

Sad, sad, sad.

I'm here for the oilsands thread where I help people out in real life. I let people sleep on my couch, I help them with the industry, I give them tips about the city, with the visa etc.

As far as I'm concerned that's worth more than a couple of imaginary rep points.

No, I don't believe in the manosphere. RoK is one blog. The mainstream media attacks everyone they can get their hands on. The mainstream media is also so corrupt that RoK will never reach the masses. (It might, but the people won't change.)

I popped over to Rotten Tomatoes just bc I was curious what the reviews were. F'ing 90%. Absurd. So I glance over the reviews and catch some keywords, one being "Down with the patriarchy."

I won't even give this film the dignity (such as it is) of a pirated download. I was willing to entertain the thought that maybe some residue of the movie was salvageable, like Mad Max Thunderdome. But sweeeet Jesus, there's no way now. I feel the same way that I did when Prometheus came out. Total bomb, but at least with that film, it was only due to the bad script, not a total feminist clusterfuck as we have here.

It might do well though we won't know until this weekend and how long it takes to break even. Action movies don't usually get super high ratings so that might attract a large audience. However if the feminism is over the top, than word of mouth will cause the movie to peter out. Agenda films generally don't do well financially but can get a lot of awards. I wouldn't be surprised if this gets best screenplay or something else since the awards are quite a circlejerk.

The Road Warrior is one of my favorite movies.

It's basically a movie targeted to "Red Pill' guys, doubly so if you are into prepping, peak oil, action movies, and that sort of the thing.

The sort of the thing that is completely unpopular on the left.

So, I'm not going to watch it, and me and people like me were the primary market. Furthermore, the left is basically screaming people like me are bad people. All these articles are really bad press. They are scaring off their market. There isn't that many SJW's.

This feels similar to the whole Mozilla affair where they tried to be 'hip' by forcing their founder out and then proceeded to lose most of their users and their market share dropped by a lot, I don't remember the exact numbers.

So, a few diehard SJW's will see the movie, a few Mad Max fans, (there's not too many, it's almost a cult classic) who didn't get the memo it's going to suck, and basically it's going to flop.

I could be wrong though. Movies are hard to predict. But it's also not like movies are doing great right now anyway. The movies that have done well recently are the ones that aren't overly SJWing right? Didn't Captain America the Winter Soldier do well and it's anti-government surveillance, the government SJW's are secretly evil right? I don't know. I just think it's going to flop.

I saw it yesterday, didn't even read anything about it before so wasn't aware about the controversy or the feminist angle etc.

So yes, the second lead Furiosa has an "equal" part - but the other chicks are quite literally "the property" of the antagonist Joe and not action heroes or anything. Most of the feminist agenda didn't really bother me any less than it bothers me when a robot is heroic instead of a human, it's fictional characters doing fictional stuff. I do agree that making strong female leads "just because" like they are doing with the new ghostbusters movie is a terrible trend, but after seeing the movie I think this one handled it ok.
One could also argue that it's Max who often brings the common sense to the table, especially in the turning point of the movie (if you've seen it, you'll know what I mean). They also didn't weaken him or anything, which makes it fair game to me.

That said, I really liked it. Has some great action scenes, especially the fight between Furiosa and Max near the beginning. Miller puts a lot of the younger action directos to shame when it comes to putting a good fight on the screen.
I also can see why it gets great reviews, it's been a long time since an action movie with a strong and distinct dystopian worldview like this has been made and it has a unique strongly tied visual style that reminds you of both scifi, old biblical movies and westerns alike.

Shit, Ghostbusters now Mad Max it pains me to think what other memorable films from my youth Hollywood will eventually reboot with female main characters or female leads. Given enough time studios will recreate and tarnish the legacy of all the remaining male movie classics.

Just because a discussion is something YOU don't like, doesn't mean it's not relevant and that it has no impact.

Even though I personally don't care about this topic much (as far as I'm concerned, I lost all hope for media/hollywood to actually praise and glorify masculinity years ago )

Discussing these things ARE the first step to changing them. Of course some subjects are done ad nauseum and should probably be stickied, but I think it's perfectly fine to warn people to watch out for any consumption of media that will pretty much poison the well that is your mind, and/or waste your time. . .kind of like how movie critics claim their legitimacy. . .the whole "protecting the consumer" thing.


P.S. and no I don't mean that this topic will result in the chopping off of your head, don't be silly. I'm making the point that discussion causes change.

Funnily enough, people who are "Against" people bashing this movie because of its feminist themes, have made that viewpoint orders of magnitude more known than if feminists had just left it alone. A LOT of men ALREADY have this pervading feeling that men are being marginalized in media, as well as in other areas of life, now that people have spoken up about this movie that everyone is "supposed" to like a lot MORE people who have noticed this trend will start to understand what's really going on. Thus beginning their own personal knowledge journies(sp?) into how men are viewed and treated in society, causing these men to life up the veil ever so slowly.

which is funny because a lot of people bitching about this(about people pointing out the feminist take over of this movie) is actually speeding this process up.
