Mr, Mrs, Miss, Mx?
The Oxford Dictionary has decided to add a new term to the gender title lexicon for those of ambiguous or mixed sexuality: Mx., pronounced Mix.

http://www.ibtimes.com/mr-mrs-or-mx-oxfo...ic-1907977

Quote:The Oxford English Dictionary announced on Sunday it is going to include the gender-neutral honorific "Mx." -- pronounced "mix" -- to represent transgender people and people who don't want to be identified by gender, reports the Sunday Times of London.

Although the idea of replacing the traditional honorifics "Mr.," "Mrs." and "Miss," and the later "Ms.," with the gender-neutral "Mx." seems a wholly contemporary development, OED assistant editor Jonathan Dent in the announcement Sunday said the first recorded use of Mx. was discovered in a 1977 issue of "Single Parent," an American magazine.

“The early proponents of the term seem to have had gender politics as their central concern [and] saw the title as one which could sidestep the perceived sexism of the traditional ‘Mr.,' ‘Mrs.’ and ‘Miss,'” Dent told the Sunday Times.

Perhaps more surprising than the idea that single parents were proponents of an honorific associated with gender activists like trans performer Mx. Justin V. Bond, who's been using "Mx." for years, is the fact that U.K. banks and government agencies are already giving customers the "Mx." option.

An absolute Home Run for all of us at RVF as many of us are involved in the struggle to properly name our transgendered heroes. I am shocked that I have yet to encounter this splendid word, but it has been around since the 1980s as shown by this editorial post:

Quote:Subject: More words and sex Newsgroups: net.nlang Posted: Fri Jul 9 15:48:43 1982

while we’re at it, let’s get rid of all this Miss/Mrs/Mr/Ms crap. It wasn’t much of a step to go from Miss/Mrs to Ms; after all, the issue should be that gender is unimportant. How about one generic title for everyone? For instance, M. Smith, M. Jones. But that’s flawed, it might be confused with Monsieur, a blatantly sexist word. From now on, we should all go by Mx, pronounced “mix” or “mux.” This will make the world safe for democracy by concealing our genders from the sexist element.

Mx. John Eldridge

This is great news for many of my trans friends. My facebook feed has been lighting up with many of them expressing their joy that their names can now be fully linguistically recognized. My bud named John Breed who is a male-to-female half-Pug/half-English Bulldog who was incorrectly assigned as human at birth is a schoolteacher that did not like being labelled as either Mr or Miss, so is thankful the students can finally properly raise their hands in class and refer to their teacher as Mx. Breed.

The good news continued with my dear friend Pierre le Meow, a binary genderqueer from Montreal that self-identifies as a bag of cat food. Although some find it tricky to identify what exactly to call Pierre in order not to offend his/her's feelings, all ambiguity has been thrown by the wayside as everyone can now proudly call for Mx. le Meow.

Unfortunately, not everyone was happy. In an effort to re-brand himself after not being relevant since 1997, world-renowned DJ Mix Master Mike got a partial sex change and dropped the 'Mix' moniker, becoming simply Master Mike. Sadly, when it went to the DMV to renew its drivers license, it's heart sank when his number was called and the teller called out for Mx. Master Mike...

Very funny.

For the Oxford dictionary to do that it should give us a view into the power and breadth of this craziness. It's the bloody main English worldwide acceptable dictionary which has ventured into the genderqueer otherkin madness officially supporting mental illness.

Quote:After the announcement that the Oxford English Dictionary will include the gender-neutral honorific "Mx.," trans artist and performer Justin Vivian Bond, who has been using "Mx." for years, wrote on Facebook: "I'm so grateful to all the amazing gender activists in the U.K. who worked tirelessly to make this happen."

I would hate to be a journalist now - you gotta double-check what kind of psycho self-identifies as a hamster in order not to be accused of "racism".

Mx. Buttons self-identifies as a male cat (transotherkin) and explains the difficulty of having been assigned not only the wrong gender, but also the wrong species. In our new exclusive interview Mx. Buttons explains her constant triggering due not being instantly recognized as a glorious male cat.

I am sure that someone during the Oxford dictionary meeting must have thought of this:

The Oxford dictionary is putting it in because official documents you need to fill now have a "Mx" in the options where Mr, Mrs, Ms is required.

They may be crazy but they have some good lobbyists pushing the right buttons.

I thought this was just some shit that was going on in America with some small groups of idiots and the internet was just taking the piss.

I didn't think it was actually real.

What's funny is that this ignores the way that languages work: random nerds sitting around think they're controlling the language by writing the dictionary, but language is organic and forms with the people. No sane human being is going to use these new gender titles and they'll be forgotten.

As any law student knows, the Old Oxford English Dictionary is enormous, and has as many volumes as encyclopedias. This one addition of a gay word won't mean shit.

I always got a kick out of people who'd look up words in a Webster's dictionary, or have auto correct underline the word in red, then assume it must not even be a word.

Mx sounds better than IT. Silly us, we should assume a substantial part of the world wants to become a post-birth surgically-made hermaphrodite.

Bruce Jenner should stop half way through his surgery and claim "MX." This whole man-to-woman thing I'm already bored with.

Oh be quiet, Fortis. Or should I say Mx. Fortis. I see that Troll icon next to your name, I know your true colours!
