Poland elections ended this weekend, there is a new president:

Duda wants to strengthen ties with the NATO western defence alliance, amid security concerns over Russia's activity in neighbouring Ukraine.
"The best course of action for Poland would be to have US troops stationed on its territory. It's the only way to guarantee the country's security," he said.

Only words will change - hardly deeds. But as a plus side - under rulership like that you won't find any same-sex marriage referendums for sure, since the party is closely allied with the Roman Catholic church.

The president in Poland has almost no rights on anything, like in Germany for example. He has just representative duty to ceremony and this kind of things... it was just an opinion survey. What will be important will be the next election in October.

Actually, Warsaw and Krakow voted for Duda .. I won't call it the less westernised part of Poland. Silesia, with Katowice, old coal region, voted for Komorowski.

He can veto parliament laws and parliament needs 60% votes to overrule it which is actually quite a weapon in current climate in Poland. Plus he can propose laws on his own (not sure what are the rules for it regarding German President).

Plus historically he is much more important regarding foreign policy comparing to Germany.

Actually Zelcorpion is right - cities of Warsaw and Krakow voted for Komorowski (but difference wasn't as big as expected), but voters from areas around this two big cities supported Duda. And this areas are traditionally quite... well, traditional.

girls from rural polish towns are much more interested in foreign men than girls from large towns, so maybe the change is for the better
