RE: Modern Dating in a Nutshell (Or...this is Exactly How NOT to Do It)
The guy is pathetic, true.
But the medium is also the message. And the very public medium of Facebook is not conducive to genuine flirting. Or even being yourself. Facebook is a medium where you preen and show off. It's like church or synagogue.
Most people don't wear their "dating face" as their public face. We don't usually flirt in front of crowds. That's never been natural. Dating and mating are one-on-one.
In that light, MySpace and Yahoo Messenger were far, far better places to meet women because you had privacy and even total anonymity if you wanted. Women responded to this too: remove their names, let them wear a mask so to speak, and their inner whore (or inner flirt) came right out.
I sometimes wonder if the rise in anger I see in the manosphere and current dysfunction between men and women isn't directly related to the rise of Facebook (and Twitter) and the public shaming and social posturing that's come with it.
Back in the Yahoo Messenger days, I knew women who you could get sexual with and number close with after just one night. And these were fine women too (shame I was married during this period).
Several of those women are friends with me on Facebook now. Under their real names, they post about their horses, or their favorite teams, or SJW political crap. I can't stand them this way.
Ah, but back on Yahoo, when they had handles like SteelersBabe, they were (I kid you not) members of something called The Cult of Cock Worship. Another used to regularly put out semi-nudes on MySpace and if you asked nicely, you'd get total nudes. Now on Facebook she posts about animal cruelty 100 percent of the time. Doesn't even seem like the same person.
So, in conclusion, while this guy is lame, he's in a lame place. It's not easy to be Don Juan when you're stuck in an eternal Sunday mass with everyone pretending to be generous, caring, and giving. Yeah, right.

I remember those days of which you speak
The days of MySpace, excite email accounts, and chat rooms named after major cities (RIP ChicagoSingleLife)
Back then, the internet in general seemed like the Wild Wild West, because it was expanding and growing and people felt anonymous enough to be more sexually expressive.
Not everyone had internet back then - which added to the exclusive feel to it. Hell, you could be looking at a nice pair of titties sent from a stranger only to have your dial-up connection fail
Facebook was so scarcely populated, I remember only being able to find 5 classmates from my hometown
Now they've built cities of self absorption on that fertile land

Yahoo Messenger was the shit. I am so lucky that it was at its peak during my early to mid 20's. I had no game, hell the whole PUA movement was still pretty much unknown in those days. It didn't matter, I met tons of women on Yahoo Messenger and the quality was not bad.
Then Myspace took over and the quality on Yahoo Messenger dropped. Then Facebook quickly took over for Myspace. So now you have to go to dating website where the ratios are way out of whack and a waste of time.

RE: Modern Dating in a Nutshell (Or...this is Exactly How NOT to Do It)
Guy is a hapless chump, but I can't really disagree with the message, horribly as he worded it.
Dating fucking these days is completely bereft of any mystery, innocence, emotional connection... and fun.
How many guys on this forum genuinely LIKE to game? Not the getting laid part of it, but the gaming itself.
Self improvement is one thing, but do you really enjoy having to trade sarcastic quips, do an impersonation of a romcom movie archetype, ration out your attention like it's made of platinum, constantly push to maintain the upper hand in non stop psychological warfare just to keep some bitches attention for a few lays?
Guess it's moot to think about; adapt or be left in the dust. Still, I do see where the guy is coming from.
The manosphere is nothing if not elegiac.

The thing is, much of that is completely unnecessary. It all depends on who you target. If your target is white middle-to-upper class college educated girls, especially those who have graduated already, then yes. If you target FOB's of almost any persuasion, this is all largely irrelevant.
I just don't run into these girls in my life, or rather, I just don't seem to go out with them. And I live in one of the forum designated Poosy Purgatories .

Do I enjoy flirting? Fuck yeah I enjoy flirting. I enjoy it quite a lot. I was just flirting with my massage therapist earlier today, I love seeing a hot girl laugh and say that I'm a jerk with her words, but say "I want to fuck you so bad" with her body/eyes.
Trading sarcastic quips? Normally I prefer to do this with other men as they're much better at it, but do I enjoy giving a girl shit and watching her trying desperately to give me shit back?
Yeah!
Impersonation of a romcom archetype? Nope, don't know, never done it that I know of.
Ration out my attention? Yeah, I actually definitely like doing this instead of wasting a bunch of time/effort and losing the girl because of it.
I would say I absolutely enjoy this vastly better than the alternative.
Also, I'd have to say that just improving my social skills/network of friends has made gaming vastly easier.
If you're not having fun, perhaps you should seriously evaluate your approach.
