My childhood home had some really cool gardens with all sorts of edible and decorative plants, I've been nostalgic lately and thinking about getting into the hobby a bit.

Unfortunately I don't have a yard, so I'm limited to potted plants. Thinking of trying to grow some fun and useful shit like veggies, hot peppers, kitchen herbs, hallucinogens, etc...

Any of you guys have green thumbs?
What's your garden like and what do you have growing in it?
Any tips?

Consider a hydroponic or aquaponic garden since you don't have a yard.

I'm starting one this year because I moved in to an apartment but my last garden was a classic plant in dirt setup.

Had collard greens, tomatoes, three different kinds of peppers including bell peppers, summer squash and zucchini.
Also had an herb garden with rosemary, oregano, sage and catnip for the cat hah.
The for the lady's I had 6ft tall orange sunflowers and purple zinnias with marigolds grown between the two. Good flowers for vases and small gifts, oh and white roses. Only got a few flowers because they take a while to grow and my only hope is the next Tennant takes care of those roses as they'll continue to grow year after year.

All of the above was grown inside of 2, 3ft x 10ft patches in a tiered setup. I've got pictures on my old phone I will try and dig out if I remember.


Oh and my favourite were the strawberries.... Fresh strawberries will blow your mind compared to tur mass produced genetically modified store bought ones.
Had a natural blackberry plant I transplanted from the woods I found em in too. Both good foraging plants and an excellent segway to ask a girl if she's hungry and lead her to the garden.

What do you think of the Aerogarden units, for a cheap and space saving hydroponic option?

I have started becoming interested in self-sufficiency and production of my own food. Actually it's more my LTR who ventured ahead with it as she wants everything free of pesticides and only with natural nutrients added.

Had a first harvest last year on a piece of land that I had access to. It's not overly time intensive and you can rent some help on the cheap in Poland.

Plus I have something similar at home on some windows:



Currently it's mostly onions, some herbs and lettuce that is grown for consumption.

Aerogarden is sweet if you want to dish out the cash:



You could grow even weed in it - I am not much interested in that, but more into hemp seeds & sprouts which are great in nutritional value. Humans are rumored to be able to survive on hemp sprouts for weeks and weeks.

My end goal is to have my own food production for me and my family done personally - similar to the British royalty - heh.

Glasshouses with deep underground water wells would likely be the most beneficial long-term.

I did a big post on aquaponics/hydroponics not too long ago, and I have a bunch of potted plants out on my deck right now. Let me know if I can help out in anyway.

I have kale, arugula, wheat grass, romaine, basil, spinach, dill, random aerogarden lettuce, rosemary, parsley, cilantro, microgreens, jalapenos, bell peppers, and some tropical plants all growing right now.

The Aerogarden is the easiest ever. I'd definitely recommend it above all else for a beginner. All in one package that is automated and only needs you to add more water once every week and trim back plants because they grow like crazy.

I thought about getting a bucket hydroponic system, but trying to either hang the grow lights from somewhere in my place or building/buying a rack for them just seemed like a pain in the ass. That's why I'm leaning more towards the Aerogarden.
