The Lie Of Oneitis And How To Get Over It
810445

When I was a young kid I recall watching a Laurel and Hardy movie where they wind up joining the French legionnaires in North Africa. Prior to France becoming a pathetic socialist mess that would make Napoleon turn in his grave, France had an empire and the legionnaires were considered the finest fighting force.

If I recall correctly, a part of the storyline revolved around one of their fellow soldiers who’d joined up to get away from a woman who’d broken his heart. Every so often the hapless Laurel would find some photo of her and the guy would burst into tears in the middle of a battle. Long story short, it introduced me to the idea of “one-itis” at a very young age.

The realistic effects of oneitis

We all get the idea of oneitis and what it entails, but understanding the theory is vastly different to negotiating the mechanics of the effect it has in real time. Everyone has the one that got away, the girl they dumped and then wished they hadn’t, the relationship turned sour that shouldn’t have, and so on and so forth. Unless you marry your high school sweetheart at 18 (not recommended)—it’s going to happen.

The crippling evil of the situation that gets into the back of your mind is this ideal future that could have been. “If only XYZ had worked out in my favor.” This, of course, is a complete illusion. You might as well be punching down opium pipes for the false dream you are feeding yourself.

The future that never was is a complete lie. Sure it’s worthwhile to look back on past mistakes, assess the situation, see where there was room for improvement, and analyze where you should avoid making the same mistake twice. Unfortunately this rapidly leads into the idea of perfect future scenarios that were never going to happen even if you were still with the girl.

How To Make The Ideal Future Scenario From Here

the-future

All sorts of situations were going to occur in your future with or without her, and those stressful situations are where the relationship was going to be tested, most likely to a breaking point. Maybe you’d lose your job and be short of cash (never good in an LTR). Maybe you’d be sick, sustain an injury, or maybe you’d get bored of having sex with her and go cold on her after a few years.

Of course there are girls that actively cheat, but most will stick around always provided you are keeping them satisfied on all sorts of mysterious feminine emotional and sexual levels, which can be incredibly time consuming to do. I’ve found that after somewhat of a honeymoon period, I feel like I am wasting my time having endless sex sessions and hanging out with her doing not much and I want to get back to my business and other pursuits.

A girl I dated some time ago, who’d got married very young and divorced a couple of years later, told me that after a few months living with her husband they stopped speaking too much and he’d come home after work and just chill. My question to her was honestly, what did she expect? A man likes to relax, all that kissing and cuddling and yes even fucking gets tedious after a while—like eating sugar straight from the bowl, one tablespoon at a time.

The honest to god truth is that most relationships end because the man wants them to. Maybe he wants to keep her around, but most likely wants to ratchet back the amount of time and energy he’s putting in. Where things go really sour and nasty, it’s only because he’s making her do the dirty work of breaking up and she is working overtime to convince herself to leave, when probably she doesn’t really want to.

Women certainly have a tendency to “upgrade” if an opportunity arises, but they also form strong emotional and sexual bonds. Thus, if you are with a solid girlfriend, it’s her that wants exclusivity, her that’s afraid to lose you, and her that has a hard time breaking all the emotional and sexual bond. The famous rebound relationship is really a chick thing. A guy just needs to get laid a couple of times and she’s a distant memory, but her way of moving on is to move onto a new relationship, often making a terrible choice and making matters worse for herself.

Your cheat sheet to combat the lie of oneitis:

  • The future that never was is a total lie, and this applies not only to women, but to educational and career choices, the city you chose to live in, the business venture that failed and so forth.
  • After a failure there is a natural depressed state that is some kind of protection mechanism. The buck that gets beaten in the mating rut needs to show he’s accepted defeat. Embracing the failure, rather than fighting this state, means the beaten state will pass much sooner.
  • In all likelihood you probably wanted the relationship to fail, but didn’t have the balls (or perhaps lacked the mechanism and social skills) to end it. Any number of poor thought processes can cause a man to hold onto his girl long past her sell-by date. When you dig into the psychology of this fact, you unearth and release yourself from all the guilt, blame, shame and negative thinking.
  • You are better off out than in. Once you are unattached whether it be from college, a job, a girl, a city you left, moving out from the family home or whatever it may be – once you are a free agent, the world is your oyster again.
  • Feeling sad about a loss is never the correct state of mind. Later you can learn from the mistakes, because similar scenarios will come up in the future, but it’s much better to embrace the liberated state that failure brings with it.
  • Making mistakes is the best way to move forward. Something our crazed socialist government machinery has forgotten is that making your own mistakes, learning from them, making them again, and gradually improving is the only way to get better.

And so you see it’s never necessary to be sad about the past. Most important, never be sad about missed opportunities that would most likely never have turned out how your imagination now paints them. Forget it and move on.

Oneitis made Donald Duck join the French Foreign Legion also. Hah, this cartoon never gets old.

God, Family, Country. The three things in life worth fighting for. Except for God; all are dead. Now it's just me, the road and God. Don't know where it will lead, but for right now...
May there always be a road!

RE: The Lie Of Oneitis And How To Get Over It
The problem that I run into is that I'm an obsessive person. Even though I did the breaking up part a couple of months ago, and I'd known that the relationship was over for months, I'm still mad that she replaced me with a seemingly cool dude and they're both now friends with my friends.

I look at the porns we made and get pissed off knowing that this guy, that even paints her toenails for her, is now hitting that.

And the girls I'm able to hook up with right now are not as pretty as her... for some reason I strike out with the hotter ones I would cheat on her with!

"... get pissed off knowing that this guy, that even paints her toenails for her..."
