This can't become available to the general public.

It has to be kept in secret or made impossibly expensive. The latter might not be an option based on how irrational human behaviour can be. Some people might not accept that there is a "cure" for aging but only a few select people can have it.

If you look her up on Youtube, she looks quite nice in videos; some of the pics don't do her full justice. However, she never shows her ass and I suspect that sadly she doesn't really have one to speak of.

Should we cure disease and ailments which render us next to useless? Yes ofcourse.

Should humans exist far beyond 100+ years? That is an ecological disaster waiting to happen and will destroy society where they are present and cause ripples throughout the world.

Imagine if you could make humans live without getting old as we do now. Whats to stop them opening up some god formula and creating perfect humans? Gattaca might not be so far off.

The purpose of humans becoming old and dying is to create stability and reason. Would you want fresh water in the system or endless recycled water?

Aubrey de Grey is interesting, and he puts his money where his mouth is re: antiaging-he married a woman (I think) thirty years his senior though his background is in computer science and artificial intelligence rather than genetic or medical areas.
While this girl makes a more appealing case (who wants to live longer if you're just old for longer? It's no accident she's speaking about this and not a professor of 55) the fact that stands against longevity research is still the same: longer life today and for a forseeable future is likely to lengthen the "useless" period of a person's life. Leaving aside the social desirability, consider the individual desirability.

If you live to 120, how much of that will be healthy, vital, intellectual and rewarding to the longer-living patient? You can expect to live to 90 now, and for most people, the living stops much earlier-when memory starts to flounder; when pain and illness are managed, not cured; when nobody thinks your labour or ideas are worth anything; when sex is mostly a memory, and doctors and family inspect you for evidence of Alzheimers or dementia or lingering wasting disease. Managing that shit- whether it's cell division error, the "expiration date" of a reliable liver and heart and brain, the environmental influence that means the aged worsen quicker of the same diseases that affect the younger generation-that's more important, surely? Aging isn't a process, it's a symptom. What of, though? I'm not any kind of scientist, so I don't know.
Having said that, hopefully they make some step so I can spin my life out another twenty or thirty relatively pleasant years and not have to retire at 65 or 70-I may scoff at it now but I'll be praying for it then.

What is amazing about humans that we age actually prematurely and have such a long period of our lifetime in which we are so much less viable. Most animals for example are in excellent shape right up until the very end. With cats you hardly if it is 70 in human's years.

Some scientists think that there is definitely something off with us - our genetic age is higher and we should be in better shape. We'll see - on that front there will certainly be improvements. I have read that our genetic age is 140 - that's the average lifespan we should be able to attain. Also we should be looking and feeling like a well-trained 55 year old by age 110 similar to many animals. That is according to some scientists. It should be possible to solve that mystery and prolong our active life at least to our genetic potential.

But all of those are just alternative theories I have read and heard about - the 140 age though is taught in some medical universities, so it's not new.

I read an article that the ages of ancient humans in genesis and the book of Enoch would have been possible due to the fact that the oxygen content of the air was much better in the past.

There's fossil evidence of trees growing so big and old that the land around them started to build up and up until the trees were completely buried under soil. Not to mention flying insects of massive size that wouldn't be able to lift off today since there is much less oxygen in the air.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason we aren't all living till 140 years is due to poor food resources. There's a pic of that old guy who used HRT and got jacked in his seventies. There is no way he would be able to pull that off without hormones since he trashed his body.

In short, $hit in $hit out. We don't live to 140 because of our poor quality food sources, lack of physical exercise, and hormone mimicking substances (xenoestrogens) causing a, "death by a thousand cuts". Want to live longer, eat healthy and be active.

Those times are at least hundreds of thousands gone - better millions of years - the old testament is hardly a scientific paper.

While it is true that some scientists like Charles Galton-Darwin (worked on Manhatten project) mentioned that mankind may indeed be much older - millions of years is stretching it. At best mankind is 200.000 years old and oxygen content alone cannot explain that. There was also much more CO2 in the atmosphere which benefited greatly the nutrient content and size of plants - that was the main reason why giant plants were growing. We need x-times more CO2 content to have a better life also as humans.

But still - that alone does not seem to explain it all.

No, they didn't. Electricity and trains were adopted very quickly. Airplanes...maybe, but mostly because of safety concerns. Understandable since many people got injured or died trying to build the first airplanes. Hospitals...they've been around since ancient times, albeit in rudimentary form. Internet...people thought it was gimmicky, not realizing its true potential. But I don't think anyone opposed it because it was unnatural. Maybe some mailmen did when e-mail became popular. But disregarding Luddites, these institutions and technologies came about without too much ado.

In terms of extending life/achieving immortality, besides the religious people...if it happens, everyone will utilize it. The skepticism expressed in this forum and elsewhere does not come from people "accepting" dying (except once again the pious who think afterlife will be better). Skepticism comes from a few places:
a) can this be actually done? One argument is that the vast increase in average lifespan has come from medical discoveries vis-a-vis bacteria, pathogens, improved post-natal care, etc. In other words, relatively low-hanging fruit. Curing aging means having a much better understanding of how our biology works. I'm in favor of doing the science, I think a lot of positives can come out of it. A longer healthier portion of life would most likely come out of it. But I think the general skepticism is about whether it can actually lead to immortality or at the very least living to 140-200 years.
b) psychological effects of immortality - personally, this is a question I find more intriguing. Can we psychologically cope with much longer lifespans?
c) societal effects of immortality - what happens to society (and the environment) if you have 9-10 billion people who basically never die (except in freak accidents)?
