Anyone have any experience in the Kurdish areas of Turkey? I'm thinking of visiting Israel then hopping up to Turkey and touring through it, and the south-east of Turkey, where I would first enter the country, is Kurdish.

What I know of Kurdish culture is that women are generally not part of social/public life and that alcohol is pretty much not a part of regular life. But I'm still interested, any info would be appreciated.

Of course, I'll be travelling on to regular old Turkish Turkey, but that's more known territory.

I do not know about the Kurdish area of Turkey but yesterday I returned from a 11 day trip to Erbil, Iraq. The Kurds are different, they have a large Ortho-Christian community that does drink. I didn't see many Kurdish ladies out at night but there were quite a few english teachers from varies countries in region.

Given the chance I think the Kurdish women will let loose unfortunately I was there in a different capacity and couldn't indulge.

I've thrown around the idea of swooping the Turkish/Iraqi border, but the ROI may be too low so the idea is off the table. That leaves Amman for chasing Iraqi broads. Baghdad International is busy on weekends and the girls are going somewhere. I know for sure not Kuwait.

I don't have anything to report at this time as far as places to go. I was there in a different capacity and not chasing. Quite a few of the ladies came to the bar at the embassy so i was able to meet a few but couldn't really mess around. I'll return towards the end of June and will be able to provide more feedback.

Some people compared Erbil to Dubai and that is far from the truth, Erbil is still Iraq. While it's safer than the rest of the country it still a dirty and developing country. We went to a few malls that were nice but my experience on this trip was limited to two shopping malls and the embassy.

Actually, Baghdad is still dangerous but safer than before. There are many ladies around however some are hesitant to talk to you for the shame factor not to mention the possibility of being targeted by the extremist. Also, women rarely fly by themselves here, they are normally accompanied by at least one male.

If you just want an Iraqi woman there are several Iraqi broads in the US, Egypt,Syria, Lebanon and Dubai.

It's ok if you didn't swoop, I just want to hear about what it's like to be there. How's the food? How do people act? I've heard alot about the recent development of Hawler from foreign investors, besides the mall, what is the city like? Could you compare its development level to any other cities you've been to?

hey sorry for the late response. i've been traveling through these Iraq sh!t hole towns. Erbil is a sh!t hole, it has potential though. They are trying to find a lot of investors to help make Erbil a major tourist destination. It's better than some of the African countries i've been but worst than others.

Maybe in 5 years this place will be better especially since a lot of foreign consulates offices will be here. There are a several restaurants throughout but cannot really recommend a great one. I've had better food in Baghdad.
