Thai Beaches
What are the top beaches in Thailand and what are the main features of each i.e. geography, tourist population, night life? Will be traveling in May with a group of mid-20s friends and would be great to also meet up with other RVFers there.

Haven't found a thread that consolidates all this info.

Thanks all.

The title of this thread is insofar funny, as it reminds me of a French guy I met in Thailand back in 2008 when Koh Lipe was still a relatively pristine island. He liked the island a lot, but kept saying that "the bitches are not very clean". I took me a few seconds to realize that he actually meant the beaches.

This is a common mistake for french people to not make the difference between i and ea. We do not have the sound "ea" in french and pronunce it "i" which can lead to some misunderstanding.

RE: Thai Beaches
I dont have time to make a list, but the most scenic beach area I've been to in Thailand is around Ao Nang.

Koh Tao is really nice island. Mostly backpackers and divers. No families on two weeks vacation, no Russians, very little shitty Thai people, only one bar with hookers. Perfect setup with the bars and restaurants right on the beach. Sairee is the main party spot.

I'm in Phuket right now.

All the beaches, bar Patong, are deserted (there's a joke in there somewhere).

Even Patong beach is pretty quiet to be honest.

Koh Tao was one of my favourite spots in Thailand, I got my PADI diver's cert there and met some really cool people, mostly divers. Its laid back, there's some decent parties on Sairee beach but nothing compared to the massive ones on other islands, which is why I liked Koh Tao more. There's a cool bar called "High Bar" down the coast and its up on a hill, you can buy and smoke ganja freely there and they also serve mushroom shakes (although those are a bit over priced), the place has a great view over the water, as you can see in this clip:

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

RE: Thai Beaches
I agree Koh Tao is great but mostly couples and divers, some small cool parties but nothing major. Good place to take a girl though

RE: Thai Beaches
The Sanctuary in Koh Phangan. Only accessible via boat from Haad Rin (or through the jungle via 4x4), but worth the hassle.

Full of hot Russian chicks doing yoga by day, dropping pills and looking for dick at night.

What's the name of the beach? I heard about a place that sounds like yours but I forgot the name.

Not sure of the name of the beach but this is its website..

http://www.thesanctuarythailand.com/

Here's where it is on the map..

While it looks a bit hippie-esque, at night it goes mental. Eden on a Saturday and Guy's Bar on a Friday are the best nights. Far better alternative in my opinion to the madness of Full Moon, and the other parties on KP. It gets wild but not as batshit insane as the Full Moon can get. Logistically it's nicely set up also- if you hook up your beach hut/room in the Sanctuary isn't too far awy, you can bring your chick back from Guy's Bar, smoke weed etc.

One word of warning to anyone who's thinking of going - there's no ATM so bring money - lots of it. Bring at least twice what you think you'll need. I brought 15k Baht for 4 days and was just about out by day 4. You don't want to have to go back to Haad Rin if you're stuck.
